Those FPSs and Oblivion don't so much scream impressive graphically, still look pretty sweet though, but Lair, wow! That's looks spectacular! They seemed to have improved the soldier stuff a lot too, and my my, the rest is looking awesome as well.

Fuel of War does look like BF2 on crack though, which is pretty cool. Graphics are pretty sweet, and if it goes Planetside styles with the extreme emphasis on teamwork and team battles, I'm all for it.

No worries, Sony gamer; the expansion is headed your way, too -- eventually. If you can trust 1UP (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156470), that is.

Yea until that screenshot surfaced. I thought of LAIR as only a game with some flight mechanics and ground battles. Well I stand corrected gentlemen :book: hehe

The gameplay possibilities that these giant boss battles could bring to the table. What if we get eaten by one of the giants? What if we have to fight on foot with one of these things on it's neck, torso wherever. Imagine the puniness we'd become when off of our dragon onto this scaled boss

Arrrrrrgh, my mind is going all Shadow of the Colossus on me right now. And I'm loving it!! ;)

It's this new technology, especially for fantasy stories caled, SD, or Suspension of Disbelief.

Ass.

You've accepted that dragons, are in fact coexisting with men, fighting battles with them, and that they breathe fire, and these men jump from one dragon to the next with ease, slaying them, it's not so much more of a stretch to say, 'and they can fly'. Get off it, man.

And that they breathe fire

Completely off topic, but...

Surprisingly there is a chemically sound basis for that. Dragonology proposes muscular venomous glands that have adapted to produce chemicals that ignite on contact with eachother and with oxygen - A binary napalm of sorts, and there is a pseudo precedent for it already - There is an insect that produces chemical mixtures inside two glands that when secreted, combined together, and in contact with oxygen, become boiling hot.

if I'm not mistaken, those are Fire Ants. yet still, actually creating flame is not been proven, and I don't think it is bio and ecologically feasible as it would do much more damage than what it should be meant to do.

as for dragons, there is a story about the Komodo Dragon in the Komodo Islands in Indonesia. it is said that people see it moving its read tongue in and out from a distance and they thought it was breathing fire.

interesting stuff.

Fine, but this doesn't explain why it seems to have unlimited fuel... unless it's wearing a bandana... or unless we don't know yet that it will have to eat a few soldiers from time to time to reload!

Well, nothing is unlimited. A person must eat to move around and make and use all the chemicals they need. The beetle that Dio is talking about will eat to replenish those chemicals in it's gland.

Except, ya.... Bandana, you got me there hahaha. Or magazine/glands shaped like an infinity symbol. "Yep, that'll give you unlimited ammo."

Btw Dio, thanks for the heads up, things like this really spur the imagination. Maybe one day, dragons will exist, but of course, there would need to be luck, and an environment that would promote the evolution of such a thing. Maybe, one day, maybe. As long as it gives the 'thing' a survival advantage and by chance also nothing kills the thing off, then maybe dragons will exist one day.

They will never, of course, have infinite ammo. That's simply not possible, they could keep evolving to keep getting more and more of it if evolutionary radiation of any/all kinds promotes dragons with 'more firebreathing capability.' Of course first this firebreathing capability must come from mutation, or simply an improvement over these less amazing chemicals that come out and become very hot.

One day, one day.......:stirpot:

@Z - I don't think there are any dragons whatsoever in Hindu or Muslim culture/folk tale, FYI & IIRC.

you take a very complicated road there. I would make it much simpler than that. ;)

I have no idea, but I would be surprised if there wasn't something resembling our concept of dragons in their cultures. imaginations will take different turns here and there, but they have to cross check somewhere.

and no, I have extremely poor knowledge of the arabian culture. just because I live here doesn't mean I know this stuff. all I know about it is what I say in TV- like everything else I know about cultures. yeah, I need to travel more, but I don't have the resources to do so. pitty.

Well, being a Hindu myself and being reasonably versed in my own culture, and knowing quite a bit about Muslims, there is nothing like a dragon I can possibly think of.

I'm assuming that in most cultures dragons represent something like strength and such, and in folklore have much to do with either fear or wealth or other similar things.

In Hinduism, there is no similar parallel I can think of. I think the closest thing you will get is that there are many animals in Indian folklore and religion and whatnot, but the roles the animals play are very, very different, I would only call them very slightly similar if I would at all.

If you ever wondered why Sher-kan (english sp?) is a tiger, it's because of the strong presence of the tiger as a symbol, one of the Hindu gods also rides a tiger, many religious stories involve animals like tigers, monkeys, elephants, etc. etc. It's not much of a coincidence that Jungle Book contains elephants, tigers, monkeys, and panthers because it is heavily based on Indian folklore.

There really isn't anything like a dragon I can recall. There isn't such a role I would guess. Most of Hindu teachings of religion and the stories involve legends and kings who are people, and animals. I doubt there would ever be a film influenced by Indian culture to involve dragons, because the role a dragon might play in one culture is assuredly represented by another figure in Hindu teachings.

I can't find a similarity for dragons lol. The only thing I will say is that there are various gods with human or animals figures, one represents wealth, one represents good fortune, one is like the 'be-all' god for lack of a better term, and many more. There simply isn't a dragon to be found in either folklore or religious teachings.

Dragons are one place that Hindu and Muslim teachings and folklore do not cross check. Things do cross paths often, but there are also strong differences. That's what makes the world interesting ;)

Btw, it seems you have the impression that Hindus and Muslims are part of only the area of Arabia which I'm guessing is the Middle East area..... That's not true lol. FYI, Muslims and Hindus together are like 2 billion people of the 6 billion people in the world. I can assure you, we are not confined to Arabia or the Arabic surroundings. South Asia is where most Hindus are from, a bit above that in areas like Pakistan, North India and the Middle East are where many Muslims reside. Many Africans are also Muslim. I dunno if you just used the wrong word there accidentally, just thought I'd clarify about that.

Btw, just to give you an idea of the art you would find in Hindu temples and such places...

Sometimes the references are simply to serpentine beings - Not all dragons of folklore were firebreathers. So if you've got any great serpents in there they count in the mythos, too. If not, ah well, almost every culture has em in there somewhere, but not every single one.

Serpent tales tend to be near sea settlements. by 'dragons' I would include any overly large animal with supernatural abilities, i.e. fire-breathing, size to agility, etc. so yes, serpents can be included in the same category.
