I didn't expect anything less because the success GeoW had on the XBOX 360, they'll milk it till that lasts. Only thing is will it be done in the same time as the PS3/PC version or are they delaying them, just because of it.

It has always been multi-console. They made a tech demo on the PS3 two E3s ago to showcase the Unreal Engine and that was it.

^ Yep I remember that. For the longest time it was only listed on the PS3 platform and no 360 mentioned. There was no doubt this was going to happen but since it did then its good news for Xbox and not-so for the PS3. It would have been nice for the PS3 if they could have had this as an exclusive given that Epic made Gears of War a 360 exclusive but I guess developers like Ubisoft and Epic seem to prefer the 360 a bit more.

From the trailer it appears Epic is more focused on the single player aspect ... or as much as the multiplayer. Which is a good thing IMO. Would guarantee more sales if not anything else.
Oh n btw, the new UTIII logo looks niiceeee!
Well, I thought that it was an exclusive but I just realised that it was never officially confirmed as an exclusive.

It's always been a PS3 & PC title. It was running on beta PS3 hardware the first time it was demonstrated at E3 2005. There were PC and PS3 demos after that. It's never been a PS3 exclusive, so the only news here is that it got its title changed and that it's going to 360 as well.

Again, best exclusive secret ever just like Assassin. Sony cant keep exclusives just like secrets. DMC 4 is coming multiplatform just watch.
dnpmakkah
01-25-2007, 11:11 PM
So the 360 gets Gears of War (yes I know its MS published) and Unreal but the PS3 only gets Unreal?
Strong rumours from a PS3 magazine indicates that DMC4 is going to the 360 as well because Capcom wants to go multiplatform this generation yet the PS3 doesn't get Lost Planet or Dead Rising from the 360. Don't even get me started on Ubisoft....Assasins Creed = Mutliplatform but Splinter Cell 5 = exclusive to 360?
Kinda strange that all these companies are harping on the 'multiplatform' aspect of gaming yet most of their 360 exclusives remain exclusives. Why aren't those going multiplatform?
This really feels like a bad dream (the current state of the PS3) :guns: Now that the Unreal rumour is put to rest and if DMC4 goes multiplatform then I wouldn't be surprised if MGS does too.
Oh not to mention Fatal Inertia (yes I know no one cares) going to the 360. But at least the PS3 got Oblivian, an old xbox game (NG: Sigma) and Enchanged Arms. Seems lopsided.

Funny how a title that never was exclusive to PS3 but wasn't on 360 goes fully multiplatform now and everyone gets into the gloomy mood "OMG! PS3 keeps losing exclusives and 360 loses none!" when in the last few weeks PS3 got games that were only on 360 and/or PC and it almost seemed as if nobody cared.

Comes down to $$$ I guess, and Sony wasn't willing to pony up what devs wanted them to. Like Jack Tretton says in the latest Game Informer, Sony earns exclusives, they don't buy them, unlike a certain competing company. Take solace in that fact that MGS4 is NOT going to 360 and Sony's first party blows MS's first party out of the water, and Square-Enix is coming to the fight.... some day

VG,the x360 is cheaper and nobody is gonna be as excited for old games like Oblivion, Splinter Cell, Enchanted Arms as it was a year ago. It's all about now, people will forget MS for the sloppy seconds, the job is done Oblivion sold 1 million. I think PS3 version wont even break half of it. MS has been more proactive since the begining of this gen.

VG,the x360 is cheaper and nobody is gonna be as excited for old games like Oblivion, Splinter Cell, Enchanted Arms as it was a year ago.SC: DA has been released very recently and PS3's version will include exclusive extra game content. Yesterday we saw a Kane & Lynch announcement, which is a game that has yet to be released. It's not like PS3 only gets "old" games. What is more, it's very likely we won't see all these crossplatforming happening a year from now as the games that are susceptible to be multiplatform will just be released at the same time and PS3's version won't be a rushed 360 port.
MS has been more proactive since the begining of this gen.Not in Japan!

Japan is in ignore MS mode, you can't break them easily. Nintendo has their hearts, but Japan isn't that important anymore. Most sales come from NA and Europe, and japanese devs will be willing to work for the multiplaforms now. Tough times not to. MS at least bought Blue Dragon, NNights, Lost Odessey, pretty good for the start.

I didn't say Sony lost all the exclusives but they're getting there with 3rd party. There is no sign, Sony is willing to prevent this.

Blue Dragon wasn't that good ? than why the japanese swallowed 100.000+bundled copies ? Building the foundation is the key for MS, as i said you can't break them that easily.

What do you win sales ? how many units can make a difference ?I don't know what you mean here, but it's a fact that PS3 has doubled 360's total sales in Japan in two months, despite launching a year later with a higher price tag (remember 360 is sold at a huge discount over there) and with few games that appeal to the Japanese gamers. In two weeks, PS3 gets Virtua Fighter 5 and that will make PS3's sales soar for a while until March arrives and tons of new games with it. I wouldn't be surprised if PS3's total sales were 3 to 4 times higher than 360's sales after Virtua Tennis 3's release. 360 is a distant third in Japan, arguably a 6th behind PS2, PSP and DS as well, and it doesn't look like it's going to get much better anytime soon.
I didn't say Sony lost all the exclusives but they're getting there with 3rd party. There is no sign, Sony is willing to prevent this. It's quite far-fetched to say they're doing nothing to keep getting exclusive third party titles. There may not be many this year due to incredibly high costs and low profitability of expensive exclusivity deals, but that will be solved sooner or later. They've got their strongest 1st party developing force now to compensate on that, thankfully. It's not all bad. Besides, the European launch has just been announced. I insist that PS3 has just launched, and I'd even argue that it hasn't even really launched yet. It's very naive to expect them to get the very best 3rd party deals so early.
Blue Dragon wasn't that good ? than why the japanese swallowed 100.000+bundled copies ? Building the foundation is the key for MS, as i said you can't break them that easily. They intended to "crack" Japan with Blue Dragon and it fell from the charts in a week. Blue Dragon was the most anticipated 360 title in Japan by far. When was the last time a good RPG sold just 100K units in Japan, let alone a Sakaguchi game? Most importantly, how do they exactly plan to crack Japan now that they won't have anything that caters to Japanese taste better than Blue Dragon in a long while?
By the way, isn't this a UT3 topic? I guess nobody cares about this game when we don't talk about it! Not that there is a lot to discuss about the game itself though.
While it wasn't officially listed as an exclusive for PS3, it was never listed on the X360 release lists until now.
and chances are, the X2 version will come out first. O_o

Where's my friggin HD trailer? No one here is an IGN Insider for cripes sake!?
them focusing on the SP doesn't mean they will neglect the MP part in any way or form. UT has always been known to be an MP game through and through.
I see them giving the SP part a little love as good news since they could add more to the game and include wider audience.
I stopped following this game for a while since it would take a long time for it to launch. but I know that UT has been one of the best MP FPS out there and has a very strong legacy and followings. I never played any of the versions, but I know it is a quality franchise. I will definitly check this one out when I get the chance.

I think while Epic thinks people will buy their game regardless of which platform it's on, if they can't release an extremely polished game with rock-solid multiplayer online on the PS3, they ARE going to lose the PS3 userbase as Resistance approaches critical mass. I'm sure there are people (here and elsewhere) who question the graphics in Resistance, but multiplayer online gameplay-wise the game has absolutely no peers on the PS3 and is at or near the top in the genre as a whole, Resistance on dedicated Sony servers running smooth as silk with a great matching system and the smoothest controls out there is literally making games like Call of Duty 3 look really bad, I doubt R6:LV can compete either, and I doubt Unreal 3 will be as smooth, and I doubt Unreal 3 will have good weapons.

All PS3 games that are going multi-platform are the FPS and not so interesting games, the games that PS3 owners doesn't care much about. The interesting games are the games that are still exclusive to the PS3: Tekken 6, DMC4, MGS4, Killzone 3, Socom PS3, Lair, Heavenly Sword, God of War 3, GT5, FF13, FF13 Versus, The Gateway 3, F1, Ratchet & Clank PS3, Naughty Dog's Jungle Game, Motorstorm, White Knight, the next project by the Shadow of Colossus team, Afrika, Hot Shots Golf, Ni-Oh, Monster Hunter 3, ZOE3, Kingdom Hearts 3, and a whole list of more games.

It is a PC game at heart, and DX 10 will probably make it look better because the consoles will be deved with DX9, but it's good for console gamers who don't and won't have powerful hardware or just don't game on PCs. Nice extra for them.

I'd rather wish that Epic would make the game with a more customized engine, that's how you get results like FF XII on the PS2, and FF XIII on the PS3.
I want to make it clear that while I think UT may look worse on the PS3 than the PC version for whatever reason, it doesn't matter, I have a strong feeling that games made specifically for the PS3 like FF XIII will have graphics to fight with the best of PC gaming of late.
FF XII looks better than anything I could've ever hoped to have on the PS2, I'd think the PS3 would have a similar trend, FF XIII already shows me stuff I didn't think was possible from what a simple hardware analysis would tell me.
I did think they may add some DX10 stuff to UT though.

I agree that Resistance made a high bar for MP technical achievement. I was genuinely surprised by how good and how smooth it all goes especially since it is a day one title and especially since it is on this brand new system with Cell and what not. Insomniac really climbed a few steps in my book. no it's time to see their spiritual brothers at Naughty Dog ans what they can do. ;)

So true. This is why the PS3 will keep on crushing the 360 in Japan. I don't know about the US since the US loves Microsoft. People in Europe will be lining up for one. As for UT, I really don't even like these kind of games. Let the FPS go multiplatform I really don't care. Mark Rein was interviewed by Game Informer yesterday.
Here's a sample:
GI: Do you think Sony’s in trouble?
Rein: No, god, no. Somebody asked me that earlier, and I was like, “What a ridiculous question.” People, just give them a break for crying out loud. People think it’s bad if they can’t ship enough, and then they think it’s bad if they can ship enough. It’s like, which is it? Either they can’t fulfill your order or they can, and they’re both good. Being able to fulfill your order is good news, right? Go out and buy your PS3 now. You can get one. That’s miraculous. They sold more PS3s in North America than Microsoft sold Xbox 360s in its same period of time, and they clearly aren’t going to have the shortage problems that Microsoft had. So as long as people are willing to pay the price for the machine—and I’m sure lots of people are—I think they’re hopefully in a good situation. I think they’ve done a good job with their downloadable content. There’s not a lot of games on there, but the ones that are there are really high quality, and I’m really impressed with the games. It’s a beautiful machine, it’s a great-looking piece of equipment, so I think Sony’s going to be fine.
Hopefully, they’ll have some big, hit must-have games. I mean, I was really hoping for a Gran Turismo this year. I’m a little disappointed that they’ve sort of abandoned the idea of doing Gran Turismo HD and building it out. It’s because I’m a fan, and I love that game. I’m really looking forward to Motorstorm, obviously, Resistance is a great game and I’m really enjoying it, so I don’t think that at all. I think Sony’s going to do great. People just want to say, it doesn’t matter what, people just want to say bad things. You know there were people predicting with Gears, “There’s no way it’s gonna make its release date, and Epic’s having problems and it doesn’t run well on the 360,” and all these crazy, stupid rumors. People are so negative now, it’s just turned. I’ve really noticed this over the last couple of years. It’s really turned a corner from positivity to negativity, and it’s overwhelming sometimes. It makes you want to kill yourself. It’s just crazy. I don’t get it. I don’t understand why people want to be so negative about everything. Like I said, I think there’s some really good news there and it’s a great machine, and people just want to beat them up. Same with Xbox. It doesn’t matter which one it is. Everybody’s got something negative to say these days.
GI: It’s funny that you mention that, because you said some pretty negative things about the Wii…
Rein: No, I didn’t actually. I wasn’t saying anything at all about the Wii, actually. It wasn’t a statement about the Wii itself, it was about the games that will come out for it and how people will bring games on it that are just there because of the controller, and I wasn’t exactly wrong, was I?
GI: You were actually very right.
Rein: It wasn’t a comment on the system, and I always said that Nintendo would make great games. I’m Mr. Optimism, by the way. I know people seem to think I say controversial things, but I’m very optimistic. I’m definitely a Mr. Optimism type of guy. I always said, “Nintendo will make great games.” And, sure enough, Wii Sports is frickin’ awesome. So I think they’ll do well, too. I bought Wario—it’s fun, I like the games they made for it. I really do. I don’t know if that controller works for every kind of game, though. I think that’s the one clear message of the Wii. That’s what they said all along. Rethink what you’re making for this thing, and if you do, you’ll have some great success.

It’s really turned a corner from positivity to negativity, and it’s overwhelming sometimes. It makes you want to kill yourself. It’s just crazy. I don’t get it. I don’t understand why people want to be so negative about everything.

Also look how they recycle the same environments and use same blur effect from Gears.;)
You can make 5 games with $10 million, if you were Epic developers.

Does that include PC or is that just console?
PC and console. Halo on the PC was the laggyest and Counter Strike was the least laggy, but you can still feel the lag. On the console, you can still feel the lag in Halo 2.

Do you post at gaf? If so, PM kaching so he can add you to the clan if you want to join, we're about 70+ strong, I think. On Sat and Sun, we have up to 20 people in the party.
Why are GAF members here? I hate that goddamn place because they're full of nazi's. I got banned for no fucking reason, just because someone says "I'd ban you if I had the power" I get banned? Fuck that.
Top it off, my last post there was a bit "controversial" but they didn't ban half the people in that same thread.

That's really weird. The first time UT3 was showcased, it was running on a PS3 beta kit at E3 2005. PC and 360 versions came later. And now PS3's version is going to be the last one to be released? They even had a playable PS3 tech demo at GDC last year and there were reports stating that PS3's version was coming along nicely, performing very well on beta kits. Even Mark Rein himself finally spoke about PS3 very positively a few days ago.
If that's true, I guess it involves big fat checks from Microsoft.
I agree as well, given the fact that they've had so much development time on the PS3 this is very odd news as well.

I dont know.
If anything Im willing to bet that pc and 360 coding was being done right along side the ps3. Epic simply didnt announce them when they announced the ps3 version (I would imagine AC is/was the same way, not to say AC is going to be delayed). I wouldnt doubt they are having some issue with the U3 Engine porting to the PS3 and it taking a little more time (although thats just a guess).
I doubt MS is paying for exclusivety although you may be right.

Epic have already made Gears for the 360, So they know how to use UE3 on the 360 whereas they haven't made anything with the UE3 for the PS3 yet, so that would explain the delay(If true)

It looks like the soonest any version will be released is Q4 2007. No wonder they renamed it, lest it doesn't make it to the market this year. I really don't see how almost a year from now it wouldn't be released on all platforms at once, mostly if they want to release it before Xmas, and they most certainly want to do so.

I think Sony need to do something drastic like get the exclusivity with KOnami and Namco like they did in the PS1 days, PS3's losing its identity!

UT franchise has always been first and foremost a PC title, knowing how MS has made cross-PC-X2 development relatively easy it was always a no-brainer this would come for X2. And as has been said the latest UEngine has already been tuned for PC and X2. Unreal Engine 3 for PS3 still remains a big mystery, for me at least.

Rein called UT3 the developer's "showcase title" and "poster child for PS3," concluding "we just want to focus on UT3 on PS3 to start." Today Rein chimed in on the Epic forums about UT3's release date:
"Epic (who makes this decision, NOT Midway) have absolutely NOT decided whether the SKUs for this product will be released simultaneously or in staggered order and we have absolutely NOT decided (because we don't know yet) when any of them will be released. If our publisher [distributed] information contrary to this they did so in error."

Genre : First-Person Shooter
Publisher: Midway
Developer: Epic
Release Date: Fall 2007
You want some first impressions of Unreal Tournament III? I’ll give you a first impression: blood and terror.
Here I am, minding my own business, looking around my base for a better weapon than my single Enforcer, when – oh hi – a giant alien-looking death spider robot comes flying in like the wrath of God and vaporizes half my team. I jump in a Goliath (because that is how I roll in Unreal Tournament 2004)! Same result. I think it took six of us and about twenty deaths to destroy that damn thing, which I believe is called a Manta, and which I believe is designed to recall racial memories of alien abduction. Just seeing it is enough to ruin your day.
In other words, it’s Unreal Tournament: vaporizing futuristic warriors at the slightest provocation.
The big announcement at the Midway Gamers Day 2007, which I’d imagine you’ve seen by now, was that Unreal was undergoing a name change and was going to see a PS3 release. It was also playable on the show floor in Las Vegas, which is where I underwent about an hour’s worth of humilating CTF defeats at the hands of the bastards on the Red Team.
Thus, I feel qualified to say that Unreal Tournament III lives up to at least some of the hype. It’s made one of the shiniest and fastest-paced first-person shooters out there even shinier and faster, with a number of upgrades to the old familiar arsenal. The show floor’s demo featured several of the old standbys, like the rocket launcher, Enforcer pistol, Stinger chaingun, bio rifle, shock rifle, and that crowd-pleasing favorite, the flak cannon.
Each tournament competitor also comes factory standard with double-jumps, sideways dodges, and now, a helpful hoverboard. The hoverboard turns the game into a bizarre futuristic, deathmatchy take on a Tony Hawk game, allowing you to trade the ability to shoot for greater footspeed and the ability to go over shallow bodies of water without slowing down.
Epic, flush from the success of Gears of War, has also included a storyline for the game, involving the hardbitten Unreal Tournament competitors defending their space colonies from an alien onslaught… or something like that. I’m not sure anyone at all was paying a great deal of attention.
The larger point, then, is that Unreal Tournament is back. It’s bigger, shinier, faster, even more violent, and on more systems than ever before. This fall, deathmatch aficionados and homebrew developers both have a whole new bunch of toys to play with.
