Executive confirms his movie studio is working on the live-action adaptation of the seminal stealth-action series.

At the Electronic Entertainment Expo last year, Konami revealed that work had begun on a live-action movie based on Metal Gear Solid. The news broke via a pamphlet for Studio Kojima, the Konami-owned development house headed up by Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima.
"I have received many offers to adapt Metal Gear Solid. It has taken a long time, but we have finally settled on an arrangement," Kojima said in a statement. "False facts aside, a movie project is underway. I have finalized a Class-A contract with a party in Hollywood."
For eight months, the identity of the aforementioned "party" was unknown. That changed this week, when Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairman Yair Landau revealed his studio is developing the project.

Well that makes sense. Game is with the Sony console, movie is with the Sony studio
Sony is very advanced and talented in the movie biz + Kojima involved = one heck of a movie.

Damn I would rather have a CGI movie almost. Unless they get the same guy that does the snake voice to be snake, and he's gotta look exactly like him.

I do believe that the current Snake model is based somewhat on David Hayter himself.

Chances are half the movie will be CGI anyway.
Well maybe not half.
I only played the first Metal Gear Solid game.
And when I say 'played' I of course mean 'watched'.
There are so many cutscenes and dialogue interruptions, I felt like I was only there to press 'next'.
A movie adaptation seems hardly an adaptation at all.
As for the rest of the series, I don't know.
What actually was there to play of the first game I kinda enjoyed.
So I might watch the movie to save myself the trouble.
But I doubt it.
For all of you who like the Metal Gear Solid series, I hope this movie turns out good for your sake.

If only Van Cleef didn't die.
For Ocelot that is.
If only Van Cleef didn't die.
For Ocelot that is.
Word.
If I remember correctly, Kojima doesn't want the MGS movie to be particularly based off any game. However, basing it off MGS1 seems perfect. It wouldn't have bothered me if the movie was entirely CGI, just so the voices could be the same. Since it's "live-action," I'm left to question who will play as who, or what the story will be if it isn't based off a game.

Clint Eastwood should play Ocelot.

Just keep Uwe away from this one.
Kojima would kill Uwe before he got a hundred yards from this movie!
I hope the story gets respect and they don't turn it into some mindless summer action flick with no soul or human interaction/. Metal Gar has lots of drama that would translate well into a film. Just keep it real movie makers! Snake deserves some respect!
Clint Eastwood should play Ocelot.
Perfect idea!!!

I vote Arnold Swartzwhatsamacallhim.

Hell No,
Harrison Ford is Snake.
Or R. Lee Ermy.
stanDarsh

Harrison Ford could play him IF it was based around the time of MGS4. Knowing hollywood they'll probably get someone lame like the guy that plays cyclops in the XMen movies!

They have make-up for a reason.

They gonna need more than make-up to make Mr Eastwood look like that again......

Amazing comparison. I don't know who could play Snake though. Hugh Jackman would be decent, but David Hayter's voice must be in there. I also think Uma Thurman would be an alright Sniper Wolf.

Didn't Snake Plisskin influence the design for Solid Snake?
But Kurt Russell is also old now.

Snake is supposed to be gruff though, so as long as he isn't played by someone who looks like the old man on PS3 I think it will turn out alright.

This is correct...
I could see Kurt Russell playing a MGS4 snake... They need somebody younger, but who looks sorta like him for MGS1 or 2.

They need to find an unestablished unknown for the part of Snake. Nobody is Hollywood is good enough or is too old for the part. And screw most if not all the younger stars. All of them either don't fit or are so damn lame it hurts. Yep, they need a talented nobody for sure.

^That is probably the best solution... Worked for Batman Begins and Superman Returns...
Zer0-Sum
02-20-2007, 10:41 AM
^Well I would not call Christian Bale unknown at all before Batman, but the choice was highly unorthodox. American Psycho and The Machinist were both pretty large movies, among others. But Brandon Routh was a nobody for sure. Superman made that guy a Superstar from nothing.
