I don't get the magazine but I'll get it if it's going to feature something interesting about MGS4!

Only 5 days, I'll give it a look and yes I do have a scanner.

It was so worth it that I'm being quite serious about this, but I'll see what I do. I don't think I'll be that extreme this time. I've ignored FFXII news for the last two years as well because of the same reason, but this is not the same.

This rumor stuff is getting ridiculous...but really, I wouldn't mind the game being ported to 360-as long as the game is built from the ground up and customized to the PS3 like Kojima says it will....a port later on so other fans could enjoy it ala Substance wouldn't be such a bad idea.

But the consensus when people speculate on the game coming to 360 seems to be under the assumption of a simultaneous release or an engine designed for both platforms. According to interviews and they way Kojima develops his Metal Gear games-it's VERY unlikely...

But there's nothing wrong with speculating I guess...;)

Also, I've been thinking we might be treated to English voices in the next trailer, but with MGS3 that didn't happen until the August before release... can't wait to hear them and I'm SUPER excited for this! I personally think Gears looks pretty weak, so... yes lol. I don't think many games have shown that much in terms of graphics as of yet.

The only two things that look completely next gen to me are 1. FF XIII and 2. the car models from GTHD. I think that's it. MGS4's character models too actually.

Seriously, I don't think I can name a game that is currently out that looks all next gen to me, not one. I think the only exception is PGR3 actually, that totally hit my expectations for what PGR would look like in next gen. In car view was fantastic.

For other games not out yet, Warhawk, when in the sky looks pretty fantastic, KZ should be one to show some serious technical wonder, and Drake (what is the name? I haven't got in stuck in my head yet) looks amazing too.

O ya, lastly, yes, MGS3, it does look ***king awesome lol.

GoW strenght resides in its art rather than on an extraterrestrial technology. "Technologically" speaking, MGS4 will certainly blow it away (literally), but since people consider that detailed settings (one of the focuses of GoW, a good game but a HIGHLY overrated one) are more exacting than numerous characters on screen, special effects (we know Kojima is a perfectionnist in this domain in particular), AI, destructible environnments, physics and animation, sound, I think that there will be individuals that will still refer to GoW as the absolute reference...
Man, there are some cases there that think GoW is on the same league as the demo of Uncharted (Naughty Dog coming game)...Some even try to convince me that Epic's game is THAT close to Killzone trailer. It's not fanboyism (well, partially...), it'S mere ignorance !

I love metal gear games, but the premise of this one tops all those that precede it IMO. Old Snake is just so darn bad ass. He is old, wise, and can still kick your ass--all incredibly attractive traits for a hero character. It makes him just so much more appealing that he has to overcome the adversity a deteriorating body. Also, the ability to change allegiances with different 'sides' makes the gameplay possibilities and thought required to go into playing the game that much more strategic--a thinking man's metal gear. Top that off with what looks to be one of the most interesting story lines, and it seems to be the most epic of all games this new generation (IMO).

My fingers jumped to the keys:
DUH!
;)

MGS is always an epic game.
MGS1 did it, MGS2 did it (kinda), MGS3 did it and now MGS4 will do it.

Only HL2 comes close to challenging MGS in terms of 'epicness'.

What I hate the most is when Xbox fanboys compare dull un-artistic games such as Gears Of War with MGS. That drives me mad and we will see a lot of that.

How the best told story in the best possible way with awesome gameplay and graphics gets compared to a 'broken' run and gun game with the most dullest graphics I've seen is beyond me.

Actually, I think you could argue MGS2 is the most epic of the MGS's so far. Its trailer from E3 2000 was not only released on DVD in Japan, but it also was the first time people saw a trailer of something not playable at E3 and immediately wanted to make it game of show. I remember seeing a developer's timeline of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 in OPM way back, and there was actually a spot in its timeline that basically said, "MGS2 trailer is shown at E3 2000, and other developers have to go back and redo stuff because the standards have been raised"

I think it's the most epic game trailer in the history of videogames, and the first weeks it was released I think it sold like 1.8 million copies in America alone... whereas MGS3 (even though I think 3 was better) sold like... 290,000 in the same amount of time :'(

Back then that was a pretty big deal :-p

And some more infos + scans of the cover...

The cover comes in two flavours of camouflage: blue and brown.

The cover features the older Snake, in the usual MGS style with blue/silver camouflage. Edge talk with Hideo about MGS4, asses the series impact and lasting influence.

Features:

Sega Racing Studios & Sega Rally
Solid States (MGS)
Dave Perry

Q: so whats the MGS4 thing? just a preview? or a HK interview? or both?

A: Both, plus small interviews with Kensuke Yoshitomi (about Boktai's and Lunar Knights on DS), and Noriaki Okamura (Portable Ops).

Q: Is the Metal Gear Solid feature in this issue an overview of the series (like the Zelda one before Christmas), an interview, or a normal extended preview?

A: Edge talk with Hideo about MGS4, asses the series impact and lasting influence.

The two articles worth reading are really poor.

The MGS 4 article is five pages of "possibly, maybe" - and even then in the context of the background story. I really don't expect Edge articles to be bloated rambling on a games possible story.

Comapred to the fascinating visits of earlier titles, which talked about the developing of the actual game, and showed signs of prolonged contact with the team - the building levels in lego factoid sticks out - this is a very sad state of affairs.

The interview with HK is about his split from Konami. Great to hear from him, but not that fascinating.

My source but he has no source (http://www.metalgearsolid.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=338165#338165)

That's because the cover is MGS4 artwork before they revealed Old Snake, and the back page is from MGS3 -- you can still see The Boss's face in the background there. Still, it looks amazing, and I'm buying it because I collect every magazine issue with an MGS cover story, but it isn't that new :-/

To begin with, yes. However, Big Boss surpassed The Boss. Throughout Snake Eater, when they have their little fights, Big Boss does progressively better until he defeats her at the end, and she wasn't holding back. Though Big Boss was older by the time of Outer Heaven & Zanzibar Land, Solid Snake still defeated him when no one else could, and I'd still place my wager on Solid Snake in any fight :-D

It's pretty easy to avoid, the system is if you just run perpendicular to the line of fire, it won't hit you, and then you just need to find one of many trees in the thing. Very easy boss battle when you know what you're doing. Even the melee attacks are easy to avoid when you do it a few times on extreme, just do a roll away, say like half a sec before she pulls off the attack, preferably over one of the two fallen tree trunks.

Hideo Kojima, head of Konami's super-studio, Kojima Productions, and the brain behind the Metal Gear Solid series, has laid bare his own bizarre and exciting vision of an online multiplayer zombie game. Although Koj (as we love to think he likes to be called) is unlikely to unleash his crazy apocalypse on the gaming world, since he reckons that there are too many undead-battlers out there already.

"The zombie idea I have is a bit different," Kojima told Edge magazine during an interview published in this month's issue, explaining that he's "less interested in the idea of the living dead than the fact you can turn people just by biting them". Perhaps a new idea for any third-party peripheral makers looking for the next big Wii gadget?

Kojima goes on to explore his idea, stressing that he'd like to offer a "truly online version" of the zombocalypse. "Imagine a large town where half the inhabitants are zombies. Users would subscribe, get inside the town and get bitten. At that stage they become undead and can't control their character - all they can do is modify the camera angles." So far, so very, very Kojima.

"They'd see their character attacking humans and have to pay just to watch!" Koj continues. "The only way they could end it is by opening another account, hunting themselves down and killing themselves. Of course, the problem is that your second character can get bitten as well."

Apart from the terse, hands-off treatment of undead life, we're all but sold on Koj's grand plan. Though we have to disagree with his view that that there are too many zombie games around - come on, can there ever be enough to satisfy our sinister hunger? But despite his reservations Kojima won't rule the idea out, saying that, should he decide that the timing is right, he will "take some time to prepare [a zombie title]. Very seriously".

For more in-depth Kojima conversation, pick up a copy of Edge magazine #173, on sale right now, or alternatively head to the official Edge site.
