They've "cracked it," whatever that means.

Talos Interactive Unveils Standard-Setting 3D Engine for the Game Boy Advance Video Game System

South Germany – April 5th 2004 With the GBA's large market and relentless good sales, established studio; Talos Interactive announces the public revealing of their "DeltaAdvance Engine".

The "DeltaAdvance Engine" supports First-Person Shooter games in a full 3D dynamic experience. The engine even boasts MIP-mapping so that means no more random pixel-fests as you otherwise find in many games on the GBA!

The resulting game of the engine will re-invigorate the FPS GBA scene with an enthralling experience. Gamers can even take part in adverse features such as "in-game" games.

"Saying you have the best FPS engine on the GBA market is a bit of a cliché, but I'm confident looking in comparison to other games on the market that we've cracked it" Dr. Robert Templeman, Co-Founder & Lead Programmer

Talos Interactive is currently looking to negotiate a contract with a forward-looking publisher. In addition, is willing to consider attaching the engine to a franchise/license or gain support to establish an original title.

The engine is spearheaded by industry veteran, Robert Templeman with over 15 years industry experience. The technology is a result of initial R&D on the acorn platform. Talos are currently developing the engine further for future Sony PSP opportunities.

Well, here in about....say....6 months or so, this little bit of news wont matter anymore. The DS is going to look tons better than that, with more features going on. Then, the PSP will follow, with much better graphics.

This is not new!! I found out about this a while ago but thought everyone knew. Doom II uses it and many other games. Not many new ones though.

The DS doesn't matter because it's not replacing the GBA, nor directly competing with it. GBA and DS will be seperate but side-by-side, each doing their own thing their own way. Since the GBA will live on, then, this will continue to matter, and the only comparison then should be made to the one unit that will be competing against it: PSP. However, PSP will later have to contend with GBA's successor, in due time.

I understand all of that. Thats not what I was talking about. Im saying that the DS will also be able to play GBA games, and prolly project an even better looking picture than the GBA. I think that when it comes out, Im gonna wind up trading in my GBA SP and getting a DS.

^Will it actually be able to play GBA games? I don't think it will, this is suppost to be side by side like holy paladin said. It should have its own type of media.

Ugh. Alright, I was wrong. Here ya go:

Unfortunately, Nintendo was less forthcoming about software, saying only that the DS would be "marketed separately from the company's existing Nintendo Game Boy Advance portable system and Nintendo GameCube home console." In other words, the DS it won't play GBA or GC games, and developers will have to get familiar with a whole new format.

A news article we ran (Not sure about the URL to it, at the moment, but the forum thread accompanying it is gone, now.) quoted an IGN article, saying:

IGN says that development sources claim the ARM 7 will further be utilized for compatibility with the GameBoy Advance.

The URL to their article which I sourced is:
