i like how he played down BR. basicly saying BR is only good for prerendered HD vids... humm i dont remember any prerendered movies in the 16 gig RFOM or the 18 gig motorstorm.
and when ask if he liked sixaxis he goes on about no rumble

I found this interview very disappointing... I have a hard time believing the person interviewed was a VP of marketing and PR. The interview did not go well IMO; he did not provide accurate answers and seemed very rattled throughout the entire interview. Perhaps he was forced into the interview at the last minute. It would have been better if a developer or producer was interviewed regarding the game.
Since Oblivion is a great sandbox action RPG let me do some damage control for Bethesda:
Bethesda wanted to release Oblivion on the PS3 in a timely manner as a result we selected to move forward with the core gameplay mechanics and content to provide all next-gen platform users a consistent oblivion experience. (No Sixaxis support or unique PS3 content)
The next-gen consoles are significantly different in architecture and our team’s motto was to provide the most optimized experience on all platforms based on their architectural strengths. As a result the PS3 version will provide consistent frame rates, draw distance, reduced asset popups & faster loading times. (Advantages due to the use of Bluray & HDD)
We plan to fully support downloadable content on all platforms to enhance gamer’s experiences...
I really enjoyed Oblivion and even if the game is a carbon copy of the 360 version I would encourage action RPG fans to pick up this title.
Bethesda needs to find a new PR representative that can act enthusiastic about their product and get consumers excited. Peace

I told you so. It's just another port that takes no real advantage of the console. It's obvious what they were shooting for; a seamless, equal enviroment across all platforms.

Thank you, I don't know what the problem is with a port of a good game that they had a year to get to work well on the hardware. I don't want a 360 and my PC's would laugh at me if I tryed to run it.
About the only thing I didn't want to heard in the highlight that were posted was no mods, but I wasn't really expecting it, just hoping.....

No one said it wasn't a great game, but that doesn't change the fact that it's just another port being blown out of proportion by the media at every chance. So obviously someone out there still cares.

Oh gawd, talk about lack of enthusiasm...
When sixaxis is mentioned it's quickly dismissed and rumble mentioned. Surely a minigame/quest could have been added that used it.

^Or you could duck away from enemy attacks with it. That'd be easy to implement and use. Think "Wii Boxing".

That guy doesn't strike me as being very good at his job, for a PR guy he really didn't seem excited about anything he was working on. In fact he made it seem like the interview was an annoyance.

In summary:
We are lazy and can't be bothered making the game more optimized for ps3, as long as we can make a half assed port and make money, we are happy.

In summary:
Considering that the PS3 version actually runs better, I can go grab the article if you want, on things like loading time which is far better, this isn't entirely true, but maybe like 1/2 or 2/3 true.

The ground further off in the 360 version looks a little weird but that seems to be it.

The ground is more detailed in the PS3 version than the Xbox 360 plus the color is 100 percent better.

The ps3 pic looks way more detailed. The 360 version looks meh. My PC does better, but then again the reason i built a kickass pc was so I could play games like oblivion. No matter how dissappointing they are.

Whoever said that is a freaking idiot. No one in their right mind can possibly name Oblivion the best RPG ever, it can be someone's favourite, but it's far from the best RPG out there. It's amazing, it's not the best. AIAS can eat my shorts.
But again, just so no one gets me wrong, Oblivion is a really, really good game, but come now, the best RPG ever? CT what? CC what? FF what? WoW what? Countless others what?

Not the best RPG ever, the best RPG you'll ever experiance, ever. :(
This is it, the pinnacle, the apex. Best ever. When PS9 comes out with the holographic interface and spores that tap into your adrenal glad, people will be going "meuh... Wasn't as good as Oblivion..."

Oh man, that PS9 ad was hype. I loved it. That got me thinking Playstation like crazy. I was like 'wtf? where did this super cool otherwordly thing come out of?' That was some seriously good advertising on part of Sony. Shame the ad was banned.
I always wonder why it was banned tho, they say because of the similarity to using drugs. I know I didn't think of drugs when I saw it, I was just like 'woah, that was crazy, cool special FX.' How many times do I see the similarity of sex on TV? The new AXE advert (which even alludes to threesome for god's sake hahaha, the one with the rolling) to put on top of thousands of others, hello? Hypocrisy what?

I think it's because of how vast and big the game is where the praise is coming from. For me, I consider the best RPGS are games that support amazing production values and leave an impression on you for years because of an incredibly touching story that you remember. Leveling up is nice, but are you more likely to remember when Aeris died in FF7 or when you reached level 40 and mastered another technique? Far from the best out there, and that's not even including the best SE games available.
Garfunkel

Oblivion's good, great even, but not fantasticly good. It is repetative adn very linear, but the sheer scope of it is cool.

I'm happy for Oblivion fans who own a PS3 & want it, but this isn't my type of RPG. I'll certainly give it credit for being a well-crafted game, but I like the story-driven games, meself :-D
Garfunkel
02-16-2007, 01:28 PM
the story in oblivion is a bit....meh really.
you also forget much of the storyline because you get side tracked with all the million or so quests that have nothing to do with the story.
The ending also,
where martin turns into one of the gods and fights the evil guy who's name is quite hard to spell...then turns into a statue
is pretty icky.
