PC gamers often like to think of them selfs as "elite" this is why they have earned the nickname PC snobs.
PC (usauly) have the beefiest GPU/CPU combos with amounts of ram not to uncommon 10X that of the consoles. all of this is great if your just some grafix whore. well as long as your happy not trying to play games on a newer 1080p TV... it would be nice if HDMI grafix cards where readly avalible
oh im guilty of falling for this all to easy trap! for about 10 years all i did was PC gaming only ocasionaly "lowering my standerds" for games like FFX and GT/TT my system now is a ageing P4 3.06ghz with 1gig of rambus 1066 ATi 9800pro 256MB (a 4200usd system back in 2003). i was like "F$%^ the ps2 this is the real thing!" only after a short time to find myself wondering back to console gamming again and again... why was that my pc was 10x the machine PS2 was?
it was my biggest beef with PC gaming becides the risk that every new game might not work right, and probly the main reason why i couldn't be bothered to up grade is the PC biggest bottleneck.
The mouse and key board... oh sure its great for aiming a gun that has one point of referance. totaly unrealistic! real guns have 3 points or referance forsights ,aftsights and target. so yea just cause you may rock at BF2142 dont mean shit with the real deal. but still i would keep the mouse for aiming, but come on the K/B? WTF its a 40+ yearold concept made for data entry! the old NES controller feels better than the hand cramping WASD bull shot! oh sure you can remap the keys to be more comforatable but still... it just sucks and it kills any quad SLi machine for me. its like text messaging with a rotory!
I still say the best PC hardware i everbought was a $9.98 usb to Duelshock2 adaptor from Radioshack. but still the games where not ment to support it. and the only games where it worked realy well where the games that where ports from PS2 like Flatout.
Personaly l would like to see MS stop dicking around in Consoles make a pure gaming OS and a universal gaming interface (as in MS steps in and says if you want to use our gaming OS with DX11 you must support the controler)essentualy a large game pad with the option of a mouse/trackball. PC gaming biggest fall back is crappy controls and this limits gameplay. and gameplay is what matters thats why console gaming dispite being "inferior" is growing everyyear in leaps and bounds.
i want my PC gaming back and no amount of uber ATi cards are going to fix this problem.
we need new controls.like this! http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/edgefx-lets-console-gamers-frag-away-with-a-mouse-222989.php

The thing is that most PC games have more functions on the keyboard then there are buttons on a gamepad. That and some games just would not work with a gamepad, like WOW.
Though I believe with Games for Windows MS is trying to get alot of them playable with the wired 360 controller.

i got a logitech cordless gamepad 2 a few weeks back when i got Oblivion, it is so much fun being able to play with a controller and use the mouse when i have to.
the only set back is i'm yet to find a game that uses it's vibration feedback...

The 360 controller is pretty sweet for (future) pc games, since any game under the "Games for Windows" brand will have to (correctly) use them.

Yeah I dont know of any PC games that use the rumble feature. Though i do know most emulators do use it.

i perform bad in PC games because of my hardware. almost all elite games have extreme overclocked hardwares. the xbox controller is pretty cool :)
i will always prefer PCs over consoles, but im tired of this whole war between PC gamers and console gamers. Why cant we have both? I wasn't aware that as a gamer I am only aloud to play my games on one system...
I play with an ATI Radeon x850 256MB gfx card, 1 gig of RAM, and a 2.4GHz processer. I play CoD2, WoW, WC3, D2, Rome: Total War, and a few others. You don't need to best hardware to have fun on a PC...

^I never though the console vs pc thing was that bad at all. Just that some people prefer to game on their TV with a controller.

the main reason i dont enjoy PC gaming as much as most is because of all the constant updates. I cant stand it if i havent played a game in a while, and go to play it, and i have to wait 3 hours for the game to update. Problems tend to be more frequent too... i wish i could play CS Source, but Steam is screwed up, and no matter what I do, I can't get it working again, even after uninstalling it, looking online, etc. Apparently there could be something on my PC that is preventing it, but the software they provide to check your computer wont even work for me. The same error comes up when i try to run it.
Steam has always had all sorts of technical problems. I hate it. I finally got it to work eventually but the thing is utter crap in my opinion

CS Source was so fun... I always get cravings to play it... and i cant. it is so sad. I kinda wanna reformat my PC, but it seems too risky.
i despise CS. In my opinion, if your going to play an FPS, why play one where bullets simply refuse to hit INSIDE the crosshairs, but are instead seemingly determined to hit everything NOT inside the crosshairs.
Steam as gotten MUCH better than when it was first released and a MILLION times better than Valve's old WON_IDs; if you've played the game that long.
I don't have any problems with it. Maybe a ticket errors every 6 months of so. I didn't read your previous posts, so, if you could explain the problems to me, I think I could help you out without you having to reformat.

I hate steam! I hate it with all of my heart! Source is not so crash hot either with it's problems that valve seems incapable of fixing.

Steam has ran butter smooth for me, for that I really enjoy it.
I can understand the frustration behind it not working though.

well... i can play half life 2 now for some reason...and it seems like it is trying to install the rest of the games i have, but the highest(CS source) is stuck at 96%... DoD is stuck at 95%. i have no clue whats up. Could other software be messing with it on my computer?

Steam and Source are both absolute crap, between all the audio problems in the source games (that one crazy bug, can't remember the name), and the fact thats Steam messes up more than Windows 3.1 makes me hate Valve games on the PC. Hell most PC games have waaaay too many problems to be even shipped, but since PC gamers are honky-doriee with taking it in the ass it's somehow okay.
I am not going to be upgrading my PC for anything besides *maybe* Diablo 3, and it better be the best thing eva.

Diablo III and StarCraft 2, both are inevitable, it's just a matter of time.

I suppose. I personally think it would be nice for Blizzard to start a new franchise, but I'd love a D3 or SC2 just as much as the next guy.
but CS Source is so fun
I disagree

I'm glad that they abandoned starcraft ghost to complete starcraft 2.
I wasn't aware SC2 had been announced?

Fried, i dont have a laptop to play CS Source, but i used to play CS 1.3 or whatever way back before the PS2 got Socom 1. Man, i loved CS. Now 1.6 or whatever is out, and i had to download Steam to get it to play. I love CS, and always will. BUT, i realize how much time i spent playing it, because i hardly ever kill anyone now because i am teh suxorz at the mouse/keyboard controls. :|
BTW, laptop keyboards blow.

I game on a laptop and have had no trouble with the keyboard.
I tried gaming on PCs but my computers were never keen on running any of my games. In fact, my first computer disliked games so much that it actually killed my speakers and my printer just to express that.
Mysteriously, 3 months later, the speakers and printer began working again, but there was this echo on the speakers that never went away.
I dunno, PC gaming never interested me all that much.

I'm a fan of console and PC gaming. I prefer FPS on PC although Resistance has changed that a little bit. And I have Oblivion for PC and COD2 on PC. I never really was into PC gaming until COD, and although I play PC games semi-frequently in no way am I hardcore. I agree with Jax, console and PC both have their strengths and weakesses. Can't we all ust get along.
PS-it is ****ing expensive though! lol

yep, sure is, the trick is to buy smart when getting new computer components, don't always get the best you can, don't always be conservative.
