In a statement to the press, Chris Cornell confirmed months of rumors by announcing that he has left Audioslave. "Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave," he said in a statement. "I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors." The other bandmembers — Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk — announced earlier this month they will be reforming Rage Against the Machine for a performance at the Coachella festival in April.

This just fuels the rumors that Rage is getting back together.
Which would be absolutely amazing :)

God, musicians are such primadonnas sometimes. If this leads to a permenant Rage reuinion, I'm excited, if not, I'll be depressed.

My thoughts exactly.

I only hope that Morello, Commerford, and Wilk can put their musical talents to something good...With De La Rocha joining them on the Coachella stage, maybe it'll be a good thing.

But it's sad to see good bands break up.

Same here. That would be cool if Soundgarden or Temple of the Dog reunited.

The four of them always seemed to act like such good bunk buddies, too. And I thought their last album was definitely their best. Ah well. I can't say that I see a new Rage album on the horizon either, but a tour would be nice.

I saw Audioslave live in October of '05, and it was the absolute best live rock show I've even been too. So at least I can say that.

I doubt we'd see Temple of the Dog reuinited, but maybe a show or two? And hell, a Soundgarden reunion rumor started the second this announcement was made I'm sure.

So what? Rage is getting back together and Audioslave is history. That is okay with me. Rage kicked WAY more ass than Audioslave did anyway. I hope they are getting back together for real and not just for one show. I want to see Rage live....

Sounds good. I like Cornell. He is good to keep making music.

But Rage had better get on a new album now....

With all that's going on the world right now...it could fuel some great lyrics on De La Rocha's part even more so than it might have before. If they reunite, I hope it's for a GOOD new album (I'm looking at The Who for this one :().

They do have all their original members, so we might end up getting something amazing, ala the Cream reunion.

As much as I always and forever will adore Rage Against the Machine, I find it pretty damn depressing when people start saying things like "We need them now more than ever." That's ridiculous. If you want change than you do it yourself, or start your own band or...something. I would friggin' burn my Rage CDs in a bonfire (even though I only have like, four of them) if it meant that some form of major progressive social change would come.

We always need RATM "now more than ever."

Hell, I just want ZDLR to stop playing Mexican Folk Music with Southern Californian Migrant Workers.

I mean, much respect to him for it all, but he made some good fucking music.

Well if you were referring to me, I wasn't saying we need them now more than ever, but rather that with what's happening in the world today, we might get some great stuff from THEM musically and lyrically than we ever have.

According to Kerrang this morning.

Supposedly the band split up over money, Cornell wanted more % due to that he wrote the vast majority of songs. They got this information off a source close to the band.

Yeah, Rolling Stone posits that it was both financial and due to the relationship with the band.

Cornell apparently said something about how he shouldn't be with a band at this point in his life, and that they were going in a different direction than him, or something.
