I've been wondering about this. What if your ps3 drive crashes or something, what would become of your games you downloaded?
I know the PSN keeps track of your purchases, can you re-download them to a different ps3/ps3 drive if the current one goes belly up?
Or do we need to back it all up on our own somehow?

For the stuff you paid for I think your straight...but yeah u should back up everything because you would have to download everything all over again in case of a crash. Especially in the early days when the store isn't as stable and reliable as it probably will be.
I haven't heard too many reports of complete HDD malfunction though so I wouldn't worry too much..

This raises the question - how to back it up ? The XMB backup only does some critical data (like user accounts) and no content at all.
You can copy content like music and videos off to an attached USB drive OK, but I am not sure how to do downloaded demos, games etc...
