Yesterday at work my friend told me that at futureshop the price of the PS3 went up to $699.99. I didn't believe him but the sites don't lie...

Did I miss a press release or something?

Haven't seen any slips lately. I think our dollar is still pretty good. But sony's price is still the same:

Maybe stores trying to pull something?

That looks to be the case.

But are they selling well enough in Canada for stores to think they can get away with raising the price?

It has been for 699 for a while already.

"Although the suggested retail price (SRP) of the PlayStation 3 in Canada has not changed, some Canadian retailers have chosen to increase their retail price as a result of the weaker Canadian dollar. This increase is solely at the discretion of the retailer, as Sony Computer Entertainment Canada has not issued a price increase."--An SCEC representative.

And for those who don't know, BestBuy and Futureshop is the same company (It is your typical American BestBuy bought Canadian Futureshop)

So it is due to the weaker dollar. Well isn't inflation a bitch? It's a snake eating it's own tale. The lower money's value gets, the higher prices go up, and the lower money's value becomes, and so on.

Don't retailers traditionally not make a profit on consoles (selling at the price they pay) and make money off of game/accessories sales. Therefore any price increase would probably be going straight into retailers pockets, therefore rendering their excuse bull?

Not that they don't deserve to make money.....but, hey....
