GoW2 demo is amazing on PS3(impressions)

Got home just a bit ago with the GoW2 demo disk I recieved at EB from preordering the game. All EB/GS have recieved them according to the manager here and all you have to place is 5 dollars down to preorder which gets you a disk btw. I am maybe 20min into the demo and have had my 1st encounter with the colossus. The game looks amazing with p-scan turned on and if I can get my camera charged I will take some off-screen pics to show yall just how beautiful the game plays.


There are 2 treasures unlocked. One is the "Road to E3" video and the other is the credit movie. The controls are spot-on but unfortunately you cant upgrade any of your powers but you start off at lvl 5 on your blades and seem to have a good ammount of health so I think they buffered it a bit to make the demo more bearable to beginners. I will post more impressions after I finish but be sure to call your local EB/GS and see if they have their demo disks in and go pick this up ASAP if you have 5 dollars!!!

The demo is breathtaking considering it was built for the PS2. There are subtle things that really impress me like dust hanging in the air near windows where moonlight comes in and the way light reflects off armor and objects. The colossus encounters are epic to say the least and the end of the demo leaves you frothing at the mouth for more. Kratos got some improved moves in this version and holding square,x or circle now is rewarded with some "oh shit" versions of his previous moves. I was able to rack up over 100+ point combos alot easier than in the 1st GoW and the grappling moves also have been redone in better fashion. I cant wait till March 14th to play the finished version and do yourself a favor and go get this demo!!

I just finished the demo for the 2nd time the game looks amazing in SD or 480P! :shocked:
Honestly, this game has some of the best level design I have ever seen... Also, the graphics are absolutely amazing for the old PS2 the transition between cinema and ingame visuals is incredible. The only other team that has better art direction would be the guys at square, but this game is in a league of it's own with the art direction working seamlessly with the level design and story cinemas. I can't wait to play the final game...
I still wish the fighting mechanics had more depth, but it's a minor gripe considering the polished package being delivered on the PS2. Sony way to take the PS2 off in the sunset... Bravo! Peace

BTW dunno if its true or not but the manager at EB tonight told me something. It doesnt pertain to GoW2 but its interesting anyways. He said the engine for GTA4 is the exact same as Rockstar Tabel Tennis and also said he got the info from a trusted Sony Rep, shuld be interesting if its true. Oh well back to uploading :p

The Polaroid is great, 720p native and all but I prefer my XBR or Aquos. CC has a great deal right now on the Olevia 32' for 599 btw. I plan to get an SXRD and sell my Polaroid and XBR as soon as I get my workers comp settlement :p

But the contrast ratio is better on the Samsung! It's 4000:1...I've heard that's one of the most important features for gaming...The Polaroid one is 5 in. bigger, but only has 1000:1 contrast ration. You can see the difference side-by side in the store too...

edit: And Omni what you want to be sure of is the response rate btw, contrast isnt a big issue really and I have yet to evem mess with my contrast settings at all, everything looked great out of the box but I do need to calibrate sometime and get it absolutely perfect.

I'm hearing the Polaroid is awesome, but Samsung is a tad bit more quality but it's also smaller and $100 more expensive. So whichever way I'm feeling the day I go and pick it up. It'll be one of these two for sure. Again..I appreciate all the feedback fellas.

btw Omni the Sammy isnt a slim-fit is it? If so dont get it, they are notorious for cutting off the top and bottom of what should be on the screen due to the projection method used.

Nope not slim-fit you are good and thats a great HDTV btw, the people at Ubisoft use em(or atleast did in the GRAW videos from last year) :p 2HDMI inputs, perfect and 8ms response is great and will really make black colors on that screen looks amazingI may look into buying one of these when I get my settlement, Sammy is known for their screen technology and clarity of picture. If you can afford this one go for it!

you begin the game with a fully powered sword, lose that sword and begin to power it up again as the game progresses, much the same as the first game

^^Once again the level design and art direction is incredible...
The static camera takes a second to get use to, because most games control the camera with the right analog, but the camera placement is great so no need. (The static camera is yet another level design trick to allow them to push the visuals) It will be interesting to see where the title goes on the PS3, because I'm sure they can see the game hit it's "full" artistic vision! :shocked:

OT: Genji could have used some help from this team with camera placement.
The PS2 version of Genji is better than the PS3 version IMO...

I can only imagine what they will bring for the PS3 GoW. Hopefully grapple points all over so you can grapply and hang from a ceiling/wall and beat the crap outta enemies. Cory Barlog has the reins of GoW now and he has said he doesnt plan on having a life or family any time soon so im sure whatever they bring to the PS3 will be even more amazing. I wish I had a time machine so I could jump ahead to March 14th :p

Well I managed to get it too.....It's really short but good enough.
Now I could' t escape any attacks from the colossus.
I find it wierd coz in the first GOW, you could evade any attacks in the middle of a combo , Now you can't , or I didn 't find how to cancel.
The special attacks are great with the blades of Athena, but the attacks like Poseidon's rage , is a little bit slower to get it working.
The difficulty is normal I think, I didn 't die during the demo but I took lots of damages from the colossus fight.

I picked up this demo last night after work. I must say although short, it definitely shows some of the new in game features.

I do not own a PS2 anymore so I was relieved when I booted the disc up on my PS3 and found that again, progressive scan is an option.

The story line looks great. I would recommend this game to anyone, as if my opinion has any merit (everyone knows GOW is the best PS2 game of all time).

Impressions after beating the 1st stage...

Wow, if you thought the first GoW was epic then this one makes it look like a small skirmish. After playign the demo numerous times it was good to finally get past the point where it left off.

I wont drop any spoilers or anything but the plot thickens fast and I cant wait to see what the rest of the game has in store. The cutscenes are breathtaking and it is absolutely insane to see what they did with the PS2 hardware as far as detail goes. You can see pores in the skin and this isnt even Heavenly Sword :p The bonus disk is LOADED with extra's and there is a lot of stuff to see on it.

I have yet to do anything but glance over the menu's but will watch some of it later. If you were a fan of the first or just like hack+slash or even action genre games you will be doing yourself a HUGE favor to buy this game.

The game supports 480P, but if you have a large display you will see Jaggies... I would suggest playing on a SD television for the best visuals.
The new firmware may allow upscaling and AA, but I will finish the game before the new patch is released... I'm sure even on hard the game should not last longer than 25 hours.

I use component for PS2 and HDMI for PS3 but have been playing all my PS2 games on PS3 as of late. My PS2 is literally collecting dust :p

LOL I cant believe they actually kept those awful costumes from the PS3 GAP contenst. The fish one you apparantly get for beating the game on any difficulty level :p I havent beat the game yet but I looked at some of the "treasures" in the strat guide which is very well done if I may add. They put the opriginal mythology behind all the standard fare of creatures you fight in game as you arrive to them in the strat guide.
