Maybe he mistaked him for...Mario.

It's snaking, and it's pretty simple so I can beat most people using it myself. When I start a race, if they snake then I do it to. If not I just race.

Snaking is a retarded exploit and should never be done. Since not snaking will result in losing online, just don't play online.

Learn to snake and quit whining about it damn it! Or just buy Diddy Kong.

Oh thats what thats called. I always did that even before I played online. I love it. Makes you look like a pro drift racer.

it's a lame way to exploit what shouldn't be done in this game and that very reason is why I don't play online often. I only play in races when I see the other racers racing legit, if not, then I just exit out and find another race and pray for legit racers.

Come one, just learn how to snake. You act like it's some horrible cheat or something... Don't Whine about it and only race "legit" racers. I snake all the time and I know I'm perfectly "legit"

I don't know if snaking is an exploit or just an advanced technique. It doesn't seem to utilize a glitch.

It seems like telling a ping-pong player not to curve the ball when he hits it.

It is cheating simply because all you have to do is push left then right then left again over and over and over to get a prolonged speed boost.

It's cheap, it's stupid and it takes away the fun from the game.

Oh man, shit thats how those assholes were beating me so badly. I saw them going back and forth and I was like how are they getting those boosts so easily? Man I knew there had to be some manner of cheating going on. This is why I only played like 10 games online and never messed with it again. Ruined my whole mario kart online experience.

How is that any less fun than simply holding the A button?

Gookanheimer

He's saying it takes the fun away for everyone else, not the snaker. Just like when people use the wall glitches in Hunters to hide in the wall where they can't get shot but can shoot others. Fun for them, not for anyone else.

The only snakers I like are the n00bs that think they can do it when they can't so I can still beat them. I find it funny how most snakers fall apart on a course like Yoshi Circuit (GCN).

Maybe he mistaked him for...Mario.

That's what I said. But he's adamant it was baby Mario.

Im probably not even gonna try to learn how to do it. Im suprised people are still playing this game enough to care about this snaking shit anyways.

TheGreenElf

It's just easy to do so I don't know why it bothers people so much. Makes races faster and more intense.

MarioKart is the most hacked game on thie DS I think, in regards to people who researched everything about it (models, track lists, etc).

Silent Warrior

i play legit. i dont even power slide. it just makes me mad when people have to do that.

Zeep
02-24-2007, 02:46 AM
well, if you don't power slide that's your own problem. that is unquestionably a legit, intentional aspect of the game. that's like saying you play Zelda without using the bow. snaking is questionable. some people think it's just another skill that makes a player better, some consider it cheating. personally, i only use it when either my opponent(s) are snaking, or if they're clearly a lot better than me even without snaking. if we're pretty close to even skill level and the other person's not snaking, i won't either.

Phoenix
02-24-2007, 06:56 AM
Power sliding was intended by Nintendo and therefore is fair play. Snaking, however, wasn't and is therefore sort of an exploit.

Khaos

I'm sure they knew of this though while making the game. I mean, it's not hard to do, it's just hard to do effectively.

Phoenix
02-24-2007, 06:47 PM
I'm pretty sure they did not know that this strategy would be more effective than not using this strategy.

Gookanheimer

I can't remember who said this, but I'm pretty sure it was someone on here:

None of the staff ghosts snake, and they're supposed to be the biggest challenge in the game. But they post no threat if you start snaking against them.

I'm not sure how true that is, as I've only raced against one or two ghosts a long, long time ago. But I agree with it.

I really don't mind snakers all that much. If there is a hint of a snaker, I may snake a little, just until we're neck n' neck. Mostly I try to get as much enjoyment out of the game as I can. Though I will avoid matches if at least one player has over 100 wins and no loses.

TheGreenElf
02-26-2007, 05:26 AM
It isn't the first mario kart game to have snaking though, and that's what I don't understand. If it were really a problem, then why not make sure it can't be done?

Edit: Damn we need F-Zero on DS and Online...*drool*

^ I want to see a video of someone snaking on Mario Kart 64. I refuse to believe it's possible.

Red_Wing
02-28-2007, 11:30 PM
It is, it's just much more difficult to do it effectively. You could execute mini turbos by drifting while rapidly moving the analog stick left and right, much like you do with the D-pad on the DS (though it lacks the explosive power behind the DS version). Only difference is that it takes a bit to build it up (ie when your drift path turns orange or red), but it can essentially be done in a snake like pattern if you execute them fast enough.

Bsack
03-01-2007, 09:47 AM
there's no way to execute them fast enough on the 64 version therefore, it is more of an even playing field for all the players on the track. Regardless it is an exploit of the game in which the power boost was only really meant for the turns. It's a shame that people ruined the experience for most of us that try to play legit. It's too bad.

Red_Wing

Flicking the analog left + Right + Left + Right seems to work with the N64 controller (Basically the same system the DS one uses), though I was only able to do it two times in a row before losing control, but I'm sure it can be pulled off. I agree, it is an exploit, sadly one that the N64 version introduced.

I'm not a strong supporter of snaking though, I believe in using the items and shortcuts and staying closer to the center of the track, that sort of stuff. However I will do it to stay competitive, and to not feel that I've wasted money on this game.

Though If you want a legit match sometime, I'd be happy to play you.

If the game allows you to do it then it's not really cheating is it?

Phoenix
03-17-2007, 05:15 PM
Is it cheating to get to the top of the castle in Super Mario 64 without any stars? To beat the game with 10 stars? Because the game allows you to do it.

Zeep
03-18-2007, 12:45 AM
yeah, games always "allow" you to cheat. if it didn't "allow" you to cheat, there'd be no cheats.
