I went to see 300 tonight with very high expectations. It was a solid movie, one of the better movies i've seen in awhile, a LOT of action. Anybody else go to see it? Let's hear your thoughts.

I saw it, yes it was pretty effing awesome. Could have been better, but still one of the top 3 Ive seen this year.
meh, not too excited for it, lack of interest in the cast and such, doesn't do a good job of linking people with characters

Anybody else notice that the Spartans just happened to have a endless pit just lying around in the beggining of the movie? And what was up with the black guy that faded out into the background laughing like a retard? Man this movie kicked soooo much ass though, A+ from me!

I went in because my friends forced me too, because this is not typically my kind of movie. I was very pleasantly surprised though, I actually enjoyed all the action; it was done artistically. I usually don't like brutality, but I got into this one.
Did anyone else notice how good the sound quality was? I never thought I'd give a shit about that...

1. The movie was a very enjoyable action thrill ride, just like the graphic novel if you are looking for deep plot you will surely disappointed.
2. Derrick I suggest you read the graphic novel if you were confused by some of the characters.
3. Frank Miller has fallen off his high horse long ago.

I saw it. It was pretty decent/pretty good, but only based on its amazing technical achievements. Pretty movie, but pretty shallow and with some horrible dialogue. It falls flat from an emotional perspective.

I can't remember how (it was legal though) but I saw this movie a while ago (mentioned it in some thread) and I called it over-rated and I remember liking the visuals but it was just a "meh" experience overall so I stand by my over-rated/ over-hyped statement.
This was kind of like Sin City but with more "meh" and less "wow".
I felt more work could have been put into it to tighten it up overall.
It's almost like the director said "okay it looks original and cool, it will sell, fuck everything else!"
Which is probably true.
5/10 from me.

Batman Begins > All comic movies? hahahaha, I respect your opinion and all but your opinion is pure crap.
Even Hulk was better than Batman Begins and this is NOT opinion, Batman Begins was poorly made and was just horrible to watch. My 7 year old cousin loves Batman but hated Batman Begins and is now a SpiderMan fan because the Spider-Man movie kicked so much ass.
The plot, the sub-plots, the actors, the action scenes, everything is 500 zillion times better than any other comic movies (I haven't seen Superman though but I heard it was shit).
SpiderMan 3 > The Universe.
I never go to see a movie in the cinemas (because I hate how people chew loud, talk all the time, breathe heavily, giggle for no reason, laugh loudly at things that aren't funny, gasp at action scenes like morons etc) but I always go to see SpiderMan movies because they are awesome to the max.
'300' has nothing on anything this year and if it wins ANY award from anywhere, I will seriously cut someone.

I will respect your opinion but I’m telling you right now your opinion and reasons why its crap is completely ridiculous and utterly retarded. Anyone majoring in film would read your post and think I was talking out of my ass.
Batman was meant to be darker, mysterious, and a great detective. What happen with Batman though was the directors never wanted to focus on Bruce Wayne and instead focused on the villains. The first Batman directed by Burton was okay but the rest are horrible trash trying to turn the series into a comedy.
No fucking shit your 7 year doesn’t like Batman. It’s darker than the Spiderman series and has a deeper plot. Speaking of plots, Begins had a terrific plot from the start. How Bruce Wayne became Batman! WTF DO YOU MEAN THE PLOT SUCKS?!!!!
Even the sub plots were great and we finally got to met character with some sole and purpose like Jim Gorden and Lucius Fox.
The acting was brilliantly done and performed by in my opinion one of the best actors out there today. Christian Bale Engulfs himself into any character he plays as. Mentally and physically. Having also an A list cast isn’t bad either such as Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, Ken Watanabe, and Morgan Freeman.
On that note let me just tell you how highly regarded the original Superman is to people. Many put it as one of there best movies every made list.
Christopher Nolan who directed Begins did a great job directing and is one of the great directors of our time in my opinion. http://imdb.com/name/nm0634240/
What you just posted was extremely immature and dim. The Hulk is regarded as one of the worst superhero movies of all time. (and there’s good reason for it)
I know why you posted it though, you’re the average teenager who really could give two shits about deep development and a good plot and gladly sacrifice it for a few explosions. Either that or you need to sign up for a film class in your high school pronto to learn about all the great films your missing out there.

Ch1cago88 is pretty much right. Batman Begins is a far better film than both Spiderman films in most regards, other than visual effects. Spiderman, however, appeals to a far wider audience and is more "fun" to watch.
I will have to change my pants after seeing Spiderman 3, however, this I know.

Man, Spartans were fucking hardcore.
I heard about the movie a while ago, and with I being a fan of Frank Miller's work (mostly his art), I was curious.
I saw it last night, and from what I was expecting, I was pleased. There may have been a bit of ridiculous stuff here and there, but since it's a fictional adaptation of a historical event, it's all good. I expected there to be ass kicking, and there was plenty of it. And from the artistic standpoint, it was good.
I might see it again, since it was fun seeing in theaters.

This is one of many movies coming out that I want to see but I can't see any of them until they come out on DVD because I can't stand to have my movies ruined by people that can't figure out how to shut the hell up. If I wanted to listen to the mindless rantings of others I can do that for free outside the theater. If I pay to see a movie I want to actually see the friggin' movie.
If there was a theater with headphone jacks in every seat, I'd pay extra to see a movie there so that I could finally get to enjoy my movies. Unfortunately, it would take no time at all before some stupid kid shoves chewing gum up in there, rendering the jack useless. Stupid kids....

Exactly, man (to Poe). I didn't go in there expecting an Oscar-winning (save cinematography) film, I was expecting a badass movie. I was given more than I wanted, and I left satisfied.
Also, my friends and I were sitting next to this fat black man bootlegging it.

Sometimes people need to stop going to every movie looking for a "Godfather" quality story.
Not every film has the capacity for such a story and not every film needs it.
What the film 300 tried to do was illustrate the last days of 300 ill-fated spartans taking on the massive and near unstoppable army of the Persian empire, and this movie did a damn amazing job of it.
This event is historical so there was only so much that could be put into the story, but Frank Miller managed to take this small point in history and turn it into an epic struggle far beyond what was previously done on film.
The story of 300 may not have been grandiose, but the cinematography reached far beyond what could be thought possible for such a movie. The immersive style and artistic flair given to the movie made each scene more memorable than the last.
The tale of 300 may not have been the best story ever, but it sure made a damn good film...;)
I honestly believe the movie should win an Oscar for the sheer originality of its cinematography. :)

I think it had a great story, just not Oscar-movie-type development. Which is quite alright, because it was a quality movie. The 5/10 score is kinda harsh, just because it doesn't have all the elements of a "great" movie doesn't mean it wasn't awesome.

I think it was a pretty good movie, but there were a lot of flaws.
For one, using slow motion can make scenes cool, but when I'm sitting there thinking in my head, "GET ON WITH THE MOVIE... I'M TIRED OF SEEING EVERYONE'S HAIR AND CLOTHES BLOWING IN THE BREEZE AT HALF SPEED," there is clearly something wrong. It seemed like the movie could have been about 3/4ths as long as it was, while still having a bunch of cool slow-motion battle sequences.
The creatures in the movie were also too comic-booky for me. I mean, the graphic novel is based on a historical event, but I feel that stuff like the cheesy looking hunchback and the wolf were just too out of place.
One thing I also did not like is the ending how King Leonidas pretended to bow and submit to Xerxes, only to fight. The whole movie shows these Spartans being total badasses, and using cheap tactics at a point where they know they're dead anyways was just stupid. I would have liked for Leonidas to just continue standing tall in the face of his death.
GTShotoKen
03-14-2007, 01:52 AM
Well, Leonidas did say that by the end of the war; he will prove to Xerxes that Gods can bleed. That was the only opening he had to prove that point.

I don't care what the naysayers blather about, this movie ROCKED!!!!!
What story do they need to tell? It was NEVER a deep story, ever. It is the tale of 300 Spartans and some pussy Greeks(who died and ran) who take on a impossibly over whelming force and kick their asses till they died. Nuff said people.
Everything in the movies kicked ass. The acting, the special effects, the battle choreography, EVERYTHING. I am going to see it again!!!!
