What do you mean if it's true? Why would it not be true? Do you think Gamespot is making it up?

user friendly you change that avatar NOW!

On topic: Good to see they're working to increase the downfalls of the game, wish they could've had this ready in time for the launch though.

Evolution stated - in an interview - that they would not wait 4-5 months before delivering DLC (as compared to RFOM). Expect the first download to be available during April/May.

Oh for ****'s sake, fix the online, Evolution.

PSN FRIENDS LIST, INVITES, PRIVATE ROOMS, JOIN FRIEND, basic things that make the online multiplayer work. This is not rocket science here. Interviewers need to fOCUS on the issue instead of "are we going to see this game in 1080p duh?"

It's the same **** with the updates, they get so distracted on other things but the core stuff like the in-game xmb messaging still hasn't been fixed. A reverse track and freakin' time trial is NOT the priority here. People complain about the most insignificant things and the major problems get overlooked.

Garfunkel

settle down tiger ROFL!

but i do agree with you, they need to sort this out before they add modes and cars and shit.

Hopefully publisher's will not become accustomed to putting to much stuff as DLC, I'd rather have it in the package I buy from the store more often than not.

And hopefully they make a crapload of this stuff free, and not paid for. I don't want to be segregrated as a gamer because I don't buy very much (or none...) stuff online.

I really hope publishers will offer most of the 'core' and important additions as free, and make things that are actually 'extras' like mini just for the heck of it kind of things to be paid for.

I swear, I don't want to be paying for game modes. I just... don't want to do it, I already bought the damn game.

Hopefully Sony will promote more free stuff on the network, and will promote publishers to just make more content so more people buy the product instead of trying to directly get it off the new content.

I really would rather have a business model like that, support for a purchased title is free, and just inclines more people to buy the initial title.

Dunno if he's making this up but sounds interesting:

I just watched the UK gamer.tv special on motorstorm.. looked fantastic, they showed the game, developers gave hints on how to use each car/bike, told how the guys wifes who had never played a game before got hooked using the SIXAXIS control and then a dev even proved that it is possible to play using only motion (gamer.tv were sceptical )

they also announced new modes and stuff, not sure if it is exclusive info but here is what they said;

New Tracks: Enclosed Arenas (think demolition derby) and all tracks available in reserve (ala ridge racer)
New Mode: Barrels of Fun - an arena full of explosive barrels.. try and survive
New Mode: Bring down the Rig - 11 Humans on motorbikes vs 1 Human in a Big Rig. The bikes have to blow up the Big Rig before it finishes the race/time limit runs out.
New Mode: WIP [Unnamed] - Opposite of Bring Down the Rig, 1 human in a Big Rig must eliminate 11 Humans on motorbikes before they finish the race.

They also said they would support Motorstorm with new cars, tracks, modes, etc for 12 months after its release.

It's fair to say that after it was unveiled at Electronic Entertainment Expo 2005, MotorStorm was one of the most anticipated titles for Sony's PlayStation 3. The end result didn't quite live up to our high expectations, but some of the criticisms leveled at the game appear to be addressed by a series of downloads that are due for release in the coming months. With new multiplayer modes and new tracks already nearing completion, we made the journey to Evolution Studios' headquarters in the north of England to become the first in world to see some of this new content in action.

Many of the negative points made about MotorStorm revolved around the game's multiplayer mode, which lacked variety beyond the single-race mode. While that in itself was fun enough, and the game was more than capable of allowing 12 players from across the world to hit the dirt, it lacked the depth of the majority of its contemporaries. While split-screen multiplayer remains off the cards because of technical issues, Evolution plans to appease the online community with a number of new modes, two of which we saw on our visit. The eliminator mode should be familiar to players of such games as Burnout Revenge, where the car in last position is forced to retire at periodic intervals. The tried-and-tested time trial mode will also be making an appearance.

The Evolution offices made a perfect environment to see these new modes in action, and the design team wasted no time in booting up nine PlayStation 3s over their local network to demonstrate the fruits of their labour. The elimination mode works by retiring the person in last position. So every 30 seconds, someone was removed from the race. It's up to the host to decide this exact time period, as well as the other match parameters, but 30 seconds seemed like a decent amount of time to produce the necessary frenzy at the back of the field. Once eliminated, players can view the current last-place competitor until the end of the race, while those still in the race can dish out taunts via voice communication. As with the single-race mode, only the winner is given points that count toward the winner's online ranking, but it already looks as though this will become a popular alternative to straight races.

Meanwhile, the time trial mode looks as though it will become a surefire way of sorting the wheat from the chaff when it comes to online competitions. The game gives you the chance to prove your mettle on any of the courses and in any of the vehicles while ghost cars record your performance every step of the way. Once completed, you can compare your times to those of the best around the world and upload the ghost details if you're in the top 100. It's fairly simple stuff in the grand scheme of things, but hopefully the time trial mode will combine with the eliminator mode to extend the appeal of the multiplayer offering. Evolution is still tweaking both game modes, but the developer hopes that people will be able to get their hands on both downloads in the next couple of months. No price has been announced formally for either release, but it is very likely that there will be some charge involved. There were some strong hints that the time trial mode may be offered as a free download, but we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed until an official announcement is made.

The final piece of downloadable content unveiled during our visit was the new Coyote Revenge track, which will be the first new circuit added to the original set of eight tracks. While Coyote Revenge is a reversed version of the first Coyote track, which was the first track designed for the game, it has been updated with some subtle upgrades. The team believes that even masters of the original Coyote will have a hard time navigating the reversed track. To make sure of this, the team dropped in a new turn at the beginning of the course, as well as added in more festival details, such as caravans, hot air balloons, and even a giant coyote skeleton in the middle. The team also changed some of the mud and dirt to balance it out for different vehicles, and the thin, winding roads promise to pose quite a challenge for multiplayer races.

Clearly, much of this new downloadable content offers much-needed longevity to the original release, so the only downside is the likelihood that we will have to pay for it once it hits the PlayStation store. The new eliminator and time trial modes look likely to match the original race mode in terms of popularity, while the new Coyote Revenge track will hopefully pave the way for some completely new tracks in the future. The game is set for release alongside the console in Europe on March 23. We'll be sure to keep you updated on any developments with this new downloadable content.

Latest update, coming 23rd March:

BuddyStorm for MotorStorm
Get a little friendlier between spin-outs.
by Jeremy Dunham
March 21, 2007 - Though Evolution Studios' off-road racer MotorStorm has only been out for a couple of weeks, there are already plans to make additions to it. Starting Friday, March 23, Sony will release a brand new in-game Buddy List to coincide with the European launch date.

The list itself will be available as a downloadable patch that's activated automatically when users log in (followed by a quick reboot). Once installed, the update will add a "Buddies" line to the boot screen located underneath the "Play" icon. Your online friends and their current status will be viewable from this hub, and if your friends are online, they can be directly linked through the MotorStorm list.

Sony has also confirmed that the Buddy List has a built-in filter that prevents people from infiltrating a set game list -- users will need to be connected to a buddy to get in.

Things are really speeding up. I still have 23 hours before I get my hands on a PS3 and Motorstorm - and another update is ready for download.

Great news for the buddy list, this will make playing with friends a lot easier...
I just need the PS2 & DVD upscaling + custom music support and I'm all set! Sony is evolving their online service at a frantic pace it's very impressive considering the service is free.

i would have imagined that the soundtrack issue is a deliberate move on Sony's part. they have obviously invested in getting certain tracks onto Motorstorm and i doubt whether they would want to risk upsetting those companies by allowing you to play any music. Sony has a lot invested in the music business and they wouldn't want to alienate certain music studios who may well be contributing to Singstar too. some games... maybe

^ Argument makes no sense IMO.
Why would the developers really care if gamers had the option to play their own music during races... I know Motorstorm paid some money to get the Nirvana track Breed, but I really should not be forced to hear it a thousand times...

because Sony will be in negotiations to get more content for Singstar. if people could listen to their own music in Motorstorm then how much exposure would the actual music get. plus the music wouldn't get the Motorstorm treatment
