i love the PS3 but i wouldn't advocate any sort of sexual congress with that shiny-oh-so-sexy-Blu-ray-Cell-based-monster... its male (to me at least) unless a pink one is released and then its hello stranger

Uh, Applefiend am I reading your post correctly? PS3 isn't region free for backwards compatible PS2 games. Those licenses still apply. Oh man I hope I'm not bringing you bad news here...

Yea I was just about to say. You do know that PS3 isn't region free for pS2 games...

Applefiend
03-27-2007, 02:34 AM
It is? NOOOOOOOOOOO! <*Beats table*> :)

Yes, it's a Region free PS3 game/US PS2 playin' PS3.

A Euro one would be Region free PS3 game/UK PS2 playin' PS3.

But you still get the frickin' huge savings on PS3 games.

It's a US PS3 you see. There's a US Wii sitting beside it.

Here's the two sites if you want to do your own pepsi challenge.

US Store: http://www.tronixweb.com/
New Zealand Store: http://www.gpstore.co.nz/

The real coolness is when I import a game from the US, quickly play through it, then sell it on ebay for more than I paid for it. I've done that a few times.

I guess this is the right thread...

I'm going to US in the summer so am I allowed to buy a PS3 there and bring it back to the UK?
Is that allowed?

And what will I be missing out on, everything is region free isn't it?

Isn't the PSU region free as well, so to speak? It can accept all voltages, as far as I know. You might need a different cable, but the PSU is fine.

You would just miss on PS1 / PS2 PAL BC and EU Blu-ray movies.

Thats a rather good question. Im assuming that the voltage differences would still exist although its possible that it may not be an issue. It seems that the PSU is sensing (good call).

Although BR movies are region coded.

If your not interested in BR then I would save a good bit on the console and buy it in the states, although that is one of the largest perks of buying a PS3. There would be issues with bc as well, you would be locked with only US PS2 games.

Well... It might be a little difficult getting it though customs given the size of it. Customs can be RAT-BASTARDS when they want to be.

Yeah, the PSU is region free. There haven't been any problems with mine even though it's on almost 24/7.

It is of my opinion that the PS3 is a very good computer entertainment system.

That is all.

Not yet, I'm just dumping PS2/XBox and GC games on ebay at the moment.

As for the PSU I'll have to show you the giant power transformer I bought in preparation for the PS3s arrival, not knowing it had a universal PSU.

Size of a small house. :)
