I suppose this could be a good thing; there will be no more confusion over which one to pick. As far as having choices, they were similar enough anyway.

Beryl has about 3 times as much code as Compiz

Found that interesting. It's probably going to take awhile to merge the two projects, so I guess I will plow ahead with installing Beryl when I get the chance.

it is interesting, i have been using beryl via CVS for a few months now, i can understand it has 3x the lines of code, just that it's not quite as well written as compiz;)

It'd be kinda hard to use Beryl CVS, as there is no such thing. Beryl SVN is what you're referring to.
