Nevermind, I am just going to assume windows XP home.
Anyway, you must enable it in the BIOS setup menu before you computer starts. After, you will most likly need to reinstall windows XP for the Hyperthreaded version of XP to be installed, in order to take advantage of it. In my opinion, I wouldn't even bother untill there is a situation in-which you must reinstall your OS. Hyperthreading really does not offer a big performance boost in gamming. We a talking in the range of a few frames. And this could work in oppoisite in some programs and decrease performace. Programs must be written to take advantage of HT in order to see any benefits.

uhhh i dont really game at all on my pc because my graphics card sucks. all i do is mulitask and i think i would get a big boost if it was turned on. whenever i go into my bios at startup i cant find anything about hyper threading. would there be another name for it that i am looking over? i want to do this because i heard that hp shipped their pc's with it turned off and i am asuming that it is off.

HP uses cutomized BIOS, so I am going to assume you are not going to be able to enable it unless HP lets you in a recent BIOS flash from them that supports it. Before the OS can see HT-Enabled Penitum 4s, the bios must tell the system that that chip has it enabled. Being that you cannot, it is not. I am telling you, you are not going to see that much of a jump in anything really, even what you use it for. The software must be written for it to get the small boost in performace.

Most people do not need a floppy drive anymore, although I usually like to keep one handy.

That is bullshit. MOST people still use a floppy drive. Not many people at all have ZIP drives so i dont get why people get them when no one else has them...

Zip drives are worthless in contrast to CD-RWs or thumb drives.

Yeah but you have to wait forever to burn a cd-r and even a cd-rw when compared to a freaking floppy disk.

I dont use a floppy... then again I dont use a cd-r or zip drive either. I dont transfer info very much.

Gunpei, no you don't. If you format your CD as a direct CD you can drag and drop files onto it like a floppy disk. The only thing is that it is much faster. There is one catch. In order to format a CD-R or RW like this, you need software that can do it, Roxio bundle being one. If you do not close the CD for all computer to read when finished, the computer you take the non-closed disk to must be able to read drag and drop formatted CDs as well with software like Roxio. A big advantage is that the data is 100 folds more secure from being lost than on magnetic based Floppy diskettes.

Quite a few these days. Just about any new computer from a large company these days includes burning software. And just about all of the burning software out there has support for these CDs. Yes, Floppy disks are so old every computer has them standardized to work the same way, except you mac people ;) ,but it is much easier to manage files on a CD like so if you have the software to do so. Plus fitting 100MB isn't such an easy task these days..unless you have a lot of time and pray that the disks are not bad or damaged.
windows xp has all this built in.^_^

You don't have to activate HT if it was built in to your computer, right? I mean, it was HT when I bought it, and I'm almost positive that it is HT enabled, but if it isn't, then I'm getting jipped, even if it is only by a few frames...
