Question

I was messing with my CD Drive in my computer and you know that little strip of plastic, the one that covers the metal bars marked either MASTER, SLAVE, or CDI (something like that) on the back of the CD Drive? Well, I lost that little strip of plastic and now the computer won't read the drive. Any ideas on what I can do?

I'm probably going to need some sort of answer.

You can get them a dime a dozen at a computer store. The only thing that little blasted thing is , is a platic outside, and metal inside to connect the two wires. Somtimes Harddrives and CD drives come with an extra one for those "Just in case reasons". If you do not know much about computer hardware setup, I wouldn;t take anything more off any other drive. I suppose as a last resort you could use part of a wire in a twist tie for bag, and connect the two sections by looping the wire around, but I would reccomend calling around to all your electonic stores first.

Question: How in the world did you lost it in the first place?

There are little holes inside the tower case, and the holes lead to like an unaccessiable second level, and I'm pretty sure it fell in there. I can hear it rattling around.

Shouldn't I be able to take a magnet to it?

Just kidding. I'm not retarded.

But, do you think a place like Circuit City, Best Buy, Staples, or some place likethat would have some? What are they called, the official name?

The offical name is a "Jumper Switch" .

If bestbuy or circuit city have them, they will probably know them by "The little things for the settings on the backs of hardrives and Cd-Drives".
