UBISOFT INTRODUCES TOM CLANCY’S ENDWAR™ VIDEO GAME
Paris, FRANCE — April 24, 2007 — Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that it is creating Tom Clancy’s EndWar™, a new brand in the Tom Clancy series of video games. Led by strategy veteran and Ubisoft creative director Michael de Plater, Tom Clancy’s EndWar™ is being developed by a world-class team at Ubisoft’s Shanghai studio whose members have experience developing Ubisoft’s hit franchises including Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon®, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell®. Tom Clancy’s EndWar™ is scheduled for release on next-generation consoles in fiscal year 2007/2008.
Set on the battlefields of World War III, Tom Clancy’s EndWar will push the envelope of technology, showcasing artificial intelligence, graphics, physics and animations that were not possible prior to the launch of the new hardware systems. Tom Clancy’s EndWar has been built from the ground up as a revolutionary war strategy game solely for next-generation consoles.
“Our development teams are invigorated to be creating the first 100 percent next-generation Tom Clancy brand,” said Serge Hascoët, chief creative officer at Ubisoft. “Our success with Tom Clancy franchises is unparalleled in the next-generation and Tom Clancy’s EndWar will be a marvelous addition to the already critically acclaimed library of games. A strategy game like no other, EndWar will allow gamers to lead their own armies against hundreds of others online in real global locations on the massive battlefields of World War III.”
Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy video games are consistently among the best-selling and most critically-acclaimed video game series in the industry. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six®, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® games have collectively sold more than 45 million units worldwide to date. In 2006, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas was named Best First Person Action Game of the Year by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™ took home the Best Video Game of the Year award from the prestigious BAFTA awards.
Tom Clancy’s EndWar is featured in a world-exclusive first look in the June issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, available on newsstands in North America on May 8, 2007.

Okay... Shanghai studio?
It means two things. First, EndWar is screwed. Shanghai studio is cursed. What they make is a mediocre game at best. Bad thing...
Second, it means that other games(especially Splinter Cell) are saved. We aren't going to see SCDA anymore, and see SCCT and R6V glory from Montreal. AGAIN:thumpsup: .

RTS games on consoles suck...The controllers just aren't made for them.
Yea, C&C on the PS1 was always a pain to play. Playing these games without a keyboard and mouse is just stupid really.

RTS games on consoles suck...The controllers just aren't made for them.
I just played Red Alert 2 with my PS2 controller. I beat 3 computers on normal lol :D
I also play Warcraft III with my PS2 controller. I'm actually not kidding hahahah. (Won 2/2 of my 2 on 2 games today)
If they let me make my controls, it'll be A-ok! I can play my RTS' with a controller or my KB/M combo. KB/M combo I'm better, but I'm not much worse with my PS2 controller. My and my PS2 controller are like......... fries and ketchup.
P.S. I'm actually using my computer entirely with my mouse, and have been for the past... 6 months I think. I don't need the mouse for any uses whatsoever to browse all my stuff. Only time I use the keyboard is to type like right now lol.
Here is my configuration.....
R1 - Left Click
R2 - Right Click
L1 - Left Click
L2 - Middle Click (scrolling in windows and for firefox tabbed browsing)
Triangle - Backspace (to go back-one-page in firefox)
Circle - Ctrl+up (volume up in Itunes, but I use the 'mouse' to do this too)
Cross - Enter
Square - Ctrl+Down
Left Dpad - Arrow Left - Itunes back one song
Up - Scroll up with middle mouse button quickly
Right - Itunes fwd one song
Down - Scroll down fast with middle mouse
Select - Spacebar - to pause music in itunes
Start - Spacebar - pause music again
L3 - Escape (to exit emulators)
R3 - Windows Key (to exit fullscreen apps)
Left Joystick - Move mouse really fast across screen (90 spd)
Right Joystick - Fine movement of mouse (20 compared to 90 spd)
I can literally do everything from my PS2 controller. Even type using that On Screen Type if I wanted to, but normally that takes to long so I just grab the keyboard for MSN and stuff.
Anyways, if devs could do what I did, which is so ridiculously simple to streamline an RTS for a controller pad, like the PS2 controller, this wouldn't be a problem. They better let me choose my controls.

Looking again, who said it was a RTS game? I dont see the term RTS in that press release. I think it will be a FPS/3rd person game, with a high level of planning like the old Rainbow 6 titles use to have. Something like you plan out your mission before hand, then you go out and excute it.
I doubt this is a RTS game though. And considering the press release did not list it as one, dont assume it is an RTS.
Could be wrong though.

I'm basing it on this.
"A strategy game like no other, EndWar will allow gamers to lead their own armies against hundreds of others online in real global locations on the massive battlefields of World War III."
It might not be an RTS, but it's probably by far the most likely of situations.

I personally have enjoyed many of the Ubi Tom Clancy/Rainbow/GR titles through the years I wonder how well the implementation is going to be taken by the console crowd. It sounds like a rts game through its description and on consoles the genre has met with lukewarm results.

I remember one guy came into my store (the same guy I told Lost Planet wouldn't be coming out on PC only to have a PC version announced 2 days later ), and he's a big Tom Clancy fan, and he's played all the Ghost Recons, Rainbow Six's, and Splinter Cells, and he says they all are basically coming together in the same universe to be a precursor to something big, so I can definitely see the potential in this WW3 game where basically all the stuff going on in GRAW/R6/Splinter Cell comes to a head and there's a large-scale war.

C&C (the first on that is) was great on the ps1.... I actuly preferred it to the mouse and keyboard config on the pc. Then again, it was an easy game so it didn't need alot of speed . But My bro and I were still very fast!!
I don't think this game will be brill but we'll just have to wait and see.

Looks like that mysterious JSF site is tied to EndWar after all. If you hop on to the JSF site now and click on the passcode button you will be asked to type in a password. Type in s9p1z6 in the box and hit enter.
That jumps you to a recording of a woman giving a future history lesson. In a nutshell: the world realizes peace in 2014 but then an oil shortage leads to a new cold war which moves to space and eventually turns into the EndWar, the final big war.
Throughout the audiocast an image of the EndWar logo is flickering in the background as well as a small EGM216 flickering near the bottom of the screen. Obviously, a reference to the upcoming issue of Electronic Gaming Magazine. I'm guessing we'll be learning a lot more from the mag about EndWar when it hits.
Moving around the blank space left after the audio and video runs, I noticing two blinking yellow dots which start up videos. One video shows a soldier running through some unidentifiable terrain, he looks a bit like the soldiers from Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, the other shows a sleek fighter dropping what appears to be a missile over some desert terrain.
I am hyped for this game even though I only know it is set in the future. Ubi can make war games like.no.other.

Ahh. Now, there you've said something I can agree with. SOCOM FOREVER! THE greatest shooter. It's the king of all muliplayer for me. There's just nothing else like it. (and let's not bring the awful bugs and glitchers into this....I mean the actual gameplay experience).
I feel like I'm just tense for some new info on the PS3 version every day! haha. When I see that game it's going to cause an explosion on the same level as a FFXIII or MGS4 did for me. No joke.
It will always be my main multiplayer shooter. Period. You know how Luke Smith gets a boner for Halo? Well, it's the same thing with me and Socom.

yeah, SOCOM came to mind, but where is it? they are still in PS2 land. call me when the get here. the same goes for MoH. Battlefield is just too different in gameplay and is very arcady (the one I played on PS2 at least).
to date, no war game has been more realistic or impressive technically and mechanically than GRAW2, imo.
I am looking forward to SOCOM with high expectations thanks to GRAW2. they'll either break it or follow behind it like the res of the war games out there.

Warcraft III is my definitive online RTS online experience, and probably overall too. The system they offer for online play is just... wow.....
I'm always disappointed that other RTS games don't have their online package nearly as well done as War3, but that's probably because they cannot expect as much success in short or long term as Blizzard can with their juggernaut that is Warcraft.

Call me on this in the future if you want but Socom is going to dump stools all over GRAW2. Socom gives you every move and every viewpoint. First person or third. You can climb, crouch, go prone, jump. You can customize your weapons (and I'm certain that aspect will get a HUGE overhaul). They go for realistic bullet mapping. They've got vehicles. Oh, and let me make another prediction: In Socom for PS3, there will be functional armor. Bullet-proof helmets and vests will WORK (but wear down over time). Camoflauge will also be a big part of the game.
One of the greatest things about Socom is your ability to go solo using stealth (if your team sucks or are being assholes). There are so many different paces you can play that game at. I just LOVE it!

that's the thing, it is 'going to' in the future. the competition are releasing their second offerings for the new systems and Zipper still hasn't made their first move. I am sure SOCOM on PS3 will be a key online game, but I am tired of speculating and imagining. What? I've always thought it was called Socom VS Navy Seals. That U really looks like a V. I thought Socom were the terrorists and you were play the Navy Seals going against them. Hahaha.
I don't know if I'm reading this correctly or not, but I don't think this game will be either a typical FPS nor a typical 3rd person shooter. to much talk about strategy to make me think differently.
also, their online mode seems very interesting. :)
This may literally be the biggest Tom Clancy-licensed game ever. Details of Tom Clancy's EndWar popped up at GameFront.de, and while the Google Translation is, well, marred enough to make a German Army drillmaster blush, context can be understood to give the following details:
All military ops are ultimately won by boots on the ground - yours. - Image 1Remember the persistent online multiplayer mode of Chromehounds? That's it. That's EndWar. "Each player participates in this one, world-wide online campaign," with the victor being the one who can conquer his two faction enemies. Those three factions (or parliamentary groups) are: the US Joint Strike Force, the European Enforcers, and Russian Spetsnaz.
(No word if Ghost, Rainbow, or Splinter Cell will make any appearances. Ghost is part of the US military, although available as a NATO unit; Rainbow is, at least in the Ryanverse books, a multinational force operating within the NATO framework, and Splinter Cell is in the NSA. These parameters don't make it easy for these groups to make - at least - any playable appearances, not in this kind of game.)
Based on what GameFront has mentioned about EndWar, and given the arguments presented in "The Gospel of Strategy Games According to Consoles", me likee, me very likee.
EndWar is envisioned to be a real-time strategy game - but the developers seem to emphasize that they are not making a Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth II (and by extension, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars) PC-to-console RTS. The camera is tied to the unit-level (like in Full Spectrum Warrior). In fact, if we read the translation right, this game is meant ONLY for consoles.
Urban combat is the natural habitat of the humble foot soldier. - Image 1The player is in charge of a battalion - GameFront says battalion. And since you're fighting with - or against - the world, you can personalize that battalion down to its "coat of arms" (I think you mean insignia, GameFront), its slogan, its structure and abilities.
"There is a language command system, which controls each aspect of play." Squad command-by-voice? Time to practice those command-quality voices, troops. These soldiers are described as smart enough to exploit cover on their own. Finally. An RTS where macro is emphasized.
GameFront lists seven types of individual units: riflemen, mechanic, tank, transporter, helicopter, artillery, and command vehicle. Not mentioned if the vehicles have to be manned by your soldiers, if they can be called in by your soldiers as support (different thing entirely), or if they are organic units of their own. Your men receive veterancy and experience the longer they survive; lose one man, he and all his experience is lost - and in this kind of gameplay/combat, that can be dangerous.
The game is directed by Michael de Plater, formerly of The Creative Assembly, and was formerly involved with the Total War series. This definitely sounds like good hands for the game to be in.
(CAVEAT EMPTOR: Except for the game logo, pictures used in this article are not - REPEAT - are not from the game. Personally, I believe pics aren't forthcoming until EGM's June issue scoop. Instead, pictures depicting aspects of modern war were used as placeholders. What, you wanted to read a boring block of text instead, soldier?)

that is actually good news since they already have a FPS series with Rainbow 6, and a 3rd person shooter in the form of GRAW, now they have an RTS.
now, I want to know how good this RTS is. that genre is desperately needed on consoles, but that doesn't mean I'll jump over any offering. I trust Ubi and they sure have the capability to deliver something decent- at least. we'll soon find out.
