Dude, saying "Check your email box" doesn't mean anything. Don't be a prick, you could have easily said something more than just repaste it.

I am over 18, have an Underground account, and I didn't get the email. I JUST got an underground email 2 and a half hours ago about new PSP games, but nothing about Home. This is bullshit.

I was just on Kotaku.com reading the news post about this and alot of people say they haven't received the invite yet. Then, one user said that only GAP members were sent the invites so far. So, among us here who have received the invites, who else is in the GAP (besides me)? I'm wondering if this is true.

EDIT: So far, it seems to be true since everyone there who has received the invite are also members of the GAP.

Hmmmm... Isolated exceptions? Perhaps some of them who thought they weren't on the GAP forgot they were GAP members because they never particpated (like that user I came across on Kataku)? Perhaps the GAP members who didn't get invited were very new and had just signed up? I don't know. Wierd.

I wrote to Sony about this, here's the answer:

Hello Nicholas,

Thank you for writing us.

We appreciate your interest in our beta program(s). This department does not make decisions on who
is invited, how the selection process is determined, or what beta programs are upcoming. This
information is held outside of this department and all final decisions are made by the beta
administrative group.

In the meantime, updating* your "My Account" profile at PlayStation.com will automatically update
your personal profile for any upcoming beta testing opportunities. We recommend updating areas such
as: Account Profile, Contact Preferences, Gaming Preferences, and Online Gaming Preferences.
Keeping these areas updated with the most up-to-date information will ensure that your
PlayStation(R) Underground(TM) profile is current and accurate.

*Updating your account does not guarantee your selection to any beta program.

With only a select few G.A.P. members getting in, we imagine people are staring at their 30 person buddy lists in jealousy as a single one of their friends enjoys the thrills Home has to offer. Americans seem to be particularly jealous right now, as nobody on Western shores has yet confirmed their acceptance as of this writing. However, we've been hearing the date May 1st as confirmation for acceptance into the North American beta, so if that date is indeed true nobody will have to hold their breath for too much longer.

Maybe today????????

When I first heard about the HOME beta I really wanted to be a part of it. But slowy I began to change my mind because I really want to see it when it's at it's best and not during the test phase. Good luck to all those who beta test it and make sure you give Sony some good ideas on improvements.

Stolen from NeoGAF (from the latest PSM):

HOME

-worldwide, but lobbies are tied to specific languages
-you have to be online for friends to stop by, and you control who is allowed to stay, and who you want to leave (i can't wait to kick someone out of my apartment )
-a few of the features shown at GDC won't be available at launch due to technical reasons
-Harrison hopes that Home icon is done through firmware, and then the application itself will be downloaded through the PS store
-your apartment exists on your PS3 and is streamed to other users (does not exist on a server)
-not forcing publishers to support trophies
-eye-toy will not be used to map a face on your character, but eye-toy will be used in other areas of Home
-64 player limit for a lobby, and less for your own apartment, however Harrison wasn't sure of the number

*Rumor*

Sony P2P Network (Home related):

According to an unnamed source, we have received word that Sony has developed a Peer to Peer (P2P) file sharing network that will allow users to seamlessly watch and share movies. There won’t be any hassles to deal with involving the use of the network. The system works on the premise that one simply downloads the specific file and the movie will automatically begin playing. Also, the same source tells us that this service has the full support of Hollywood. To expand on this network, we’ve heard that they’re planning to integrate the service into “Home”, Sony’s new online avatar-driven platform. Creating this service and offering it within "Home" would only further Sony's attempts at offering the ultimate multi-media experience. As of now, this is only a rumor, we'll have to wait till Sony openly confirms this.

EDIT: I'd like to state that I listed this as a rumor because i'm still waiting to see what Sony/Grouper has to say. My source says this is VERY real though and that it's based off Groupers P2P technology, who as you all know was bought by Sony.

Not only potential, but this is what is needed to gather non gamers (namely women) into gaming consoles.

I think, this is, what The Sims is to the PC, only much bigger. This will summon many women into gaming, which would never get a console for the usual gaming stuff.

As home is not a game itself, but rather a chatting platform (to the casual eye at least), it can also grow into a "friendfinder" thingy for the frustrated^^

I really didn't expect it to look as good as it does either. I can see myself already...

The one thing that I do what Sony to add it like a comments page or something. Like how the top levels in LBP will be ranked. There should be like most popular users, or best homes' in Home type of page...

Welcome to Home Beta.

Dear G.A.P. member,

Thanks for your recent interest in the Home beta test. At the moment, we have all the beta testers we need for this phase. But don't lose hope: we will be expanding the beta and adding participants weekly over the next several weeks. Watch your inbox, because we'll be contacting the next wave of beta testers very soon!

And, if you don't get selected for this round of beta testing, there may be future Home beta test opportunities in the near future.

So, don't give up. More chances to participate in a Home beta test are coming. Hope we'll see you at Home.

Thanks!

I really agree this is coming together a good bit better than what I imagined it. The character creation and "living areas" are rather impressive given the concept of the app.

Im personally looking forward to the items one gets for achievements, the concept of the 3D achievement is a great idea (I link those not familiar with "achievements" are going to be surprised just how addictive they are), looking forward to building a trophy room.

AFAIK, you have to be a GAP (sp?) and Underground register. live in Europe and got your registration accepted. in any case, it is too late now as they have closed the beta acceptance- for now.

most likely, our time will come with the open beta in July.:stirpot:

I guess that makes you a HORRIBLE PERSON JAX! I hate you, you racist sonofabitch.

Actually, I can't tell the difference between one african tribe and another, why would we be able to? Not like you been there. All asian people look alike (until you go to college and they're everywhere and you start to pick out subtle differences :P ), white people (by nationality) all look alike, until you start getting into eastern europe and whatever, and the mediterranean. But I can't tell a frenchman from a german until they open their mouths.

Moral of the story is, lots of people look alike.

Anyway, I figure you can just adjust the hue of the skin gradually anyway so that won't really be a concern (right?), and you can adjust the actual headshape so that's also something you don't really need to worry about.

Online CHESS FTW!!!!

Now some1 can finally teach me how to play that game!!

You're not far from the truth at all. Sony wanted a very robust online server with the PS2, but because legal and competitive actions got in the way as well as the PS2 just not being equip enough in hardware to realize the type of vision Sony had in mind for such a robust online server, Sony had to either abandon their plans all together or introduce them through physical formats, which they did do with a few.

This gen of console is much different from the last. Not only is the PS3 equipped enough to handle firmware upgrades and memory set aside, but it now has the type of power and flexibility Sony wanted that they didn't have with the PS2 to make these things possible.

This is PlayStation 2 Cyberworld which never really ripened across seas:

PSM Interview With Phil Harrison About Home (http://www.ps3forums.com/showpost.php?p=1393542&postcount=1).

GTAce
05-09-2007, 02:43 AM
PSM: For the character creation, is it robust enough that you expect people will be able to make really accurate likenesses of themselves?

Phil: They guy that we talked to in Home [during the GDC presentation], Adrian, that's what he looks like.
I mean, that's what he looks like. He spent a little bit of time to customize his character. It's funny, whenever I see it, I smile,
because I know that's him online. You can really recreate yourself with surprising fidelity.

PSM: Will Home be worldwide? Will you run across people from other countries?

Phil: Yes, although there will be certain lobbies that are specific to languages.

PSM: Can friends drop by your apartment when you're offline or do you have to be -

Phil: You have to be online. You have to be switched on. Would you really want your friends coming around your house
when you're not there, either? In the real outside world?

PSM: No, that's actually why I asked the question. I want to be able to lock the doors somehow.

Phil: Right. Whether you're online and available, online and not available... you can control whether you invite your friends over to your space, whether you want them to stay or go.

PSM: Are the trophies only accessible through Home, or will there be a shortcut?

Phil: The Home icon has the subcatagories of Favorites and Hall of Fame. Now, Favorites is where, as you navigate the World Map or the network spaces, you find the God of War space or the EA space, or you have found spaces where you can create a shortcut... like bookmarks. You can press a button inside Home that will generate a bookmark, and it actually renders a screenshot from where you were standing at the time and puts it into the Favorites list. So yo uthen have a simple set of shortcuts that you can go to without going through the central lobby again.

PSM: Do you imagine that Home will eventually replace the online interface that exists now or the PlayStation Sore that exists now?

Phil: They serve different purposes. I think that for some users, the cross media bar is going to be the only interface that they will use for the machine. Dive in, look at a photo, come out, look at a video - I think this is something that many users will find a very efficient way of interfacing with the machine. Home offers a richer experience, which obviously requires a greater investment of time and commitment on the part of the user. We think that will serve well the needs of a different kind of user, but the two should coexist on the same platform.

PSM: Will you be able to potentially use Eye-Toy to help modify your avatar?

Phil: No... well, yes and no. We use a very complex technology, which allows us to manipulate the geometry of the face in a low memory footprint, so that it's easy to share what you've done to your face with everyone around the space. There will be Eye-Toy integration in other areas of Home.

PSM: Will there ever be a friends list that spans every game, or is it still kind of kept independant of software?

Phil: The Home uses the PlayStation Network Friends list. So exactly the same friends list that you have on the cross media bar list is inside Home.

one thought strikes me here about HOME, and its the only thing that puts a slight downer on it. it doesn't appear to allow you to stroll around a virtual city and walk in through a virtual front door. it seems as if all you do is get invited and appear in someone's apartment instantly. the fact that you can change your view seems to break up the consistency of the experience to me

Z
05-09-2007, 06:42 PM
well, there is a hall and other rooms to walk in. the place is called 'Home' not 'the open wide city'. also, keep in mind that things like walking around are initial ventures. most people will get tired of it quick and want to go to their destination instantly and right away.

Well, that's yet to be confirmed since we haven't seen anything of the sort. Let's not forget that it's in the early Beta stage, and even when it's finally released to the public, walking around a city may not come to fruition at all. It's certainly possible though and given time, this is something that we may see. But as Z said, the novelty would become tiresome in my opinion.

TEN HOME BETA TRIAL PLACES FOR THREE SPEECH REGULARS (http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=406)
Filed under: PS3 NEWS, THREE SPEECH, HOME — Three Speech May 9, 2007 @ 7:00 pm

http://www.threespeech.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/betahome.jpg

We’ve been given ten spaces for Three Speech regulars on the second phase of the Home beta trial, which is due to start later in the summer.

To qualify for a bout of major bragging rights among your mates, you’ll need to be based in the UK and have access to the PSN Store; and we’ll need your email sign-in address. Once the second phase is underway, you’ll be contacted with details of what to do next.

We could ask you to dance, fight, sing etc for the spaces, but nah, there’s not really a fairer way than to say we’ll dish them out on a first come, first served basis. Email us at blog@threespeech.com super quick!

Keep an eye out on the registration site - www.homebetatrial.com/ - as well for more info. It's probably too late by now though.

This one is a bit longer, I wonder if Sony has anyway to track these people that are uploading videos of Home? Not that they're showing anything that we haven't seen already, but at least we know it's not vaporware like some sites(1up) were claiming. Now we just need someone that speaks French/Italian or whatever the language is this guy is talking in.
