Now, a new release doesn't mean too awfully much in the Gentoo community, as Gentoo users are always up to date. But it does mean a new Boot Splash, an updated installer, updated other tools, and a new LiveCD atleast.

Garf, we were just talking about this last night haha.

The Gentoo Release Engineering project is pleased to announce the much-delayed release of Gentoo Linux 2007.0, code named "Secret Sauce". This release met with several delays due to an abnormally high number of security vulnerabilities in large packages which had to be rebuilt using the newer, secure versions of the packages. There was also a complete resnapshot done about half-way through the release period due to the release taking so long and the packages becoming stale.

Cool. I'll check it out this coming weekend, once finals are over.

I still find it funny that the first time I installed Gentoo, I was drunk. And I only slightly messed up the USE flags.

USE flags are always a bitch. Expect to do a couple "emerge -uvaDN world"'s on your first install (which basically recompiles everything to use new USE flags that you set). But they allow complete control over the software you are installing.

Oh, I did several of those. I think I installed Gentoo at least four times that week, until I finally got it working the way I wanted it. I'm back on Ubuntu for now because fiddling with Gentoo was taking too much time from school.
