And I like this one...

http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp.net/store/configurator.aspx?mid=1

Nuke, help me out. What should I put in it, if I plan to buy it? I put what I wanted, and the total came up to around $760... It wasn't everything that I really wanted, I had to cut down, but it's definetly enough for me.

Anyone else that wants to help out, you're welcome to.

If I were you, I would start saving up and wait til next year because its going to be a waste to upgrade now, especially if you aren't going to get top of the line shit. Next year, we will have ddr2, pci-express (which is 16 times as fast as agp), the new geforce 6800 will be out with 16 pixel pipelines, 222 million transistors, its going to rock. Athlon 64 bit processors will also go down in price because Intel will release thier 64 processor, so that will be nice. So I would wait, thats wait I'll be doing.

But Intels 64 bit processor will cost a lot! That new video card is just going to cost a whole lot and the computer price is going to go way up!! That seems nice. Don't buy right away, look around and find some deals. Take a week or two.

EDIT: That place is such a good deal for computers!! Probably the best one I have seen on the net!!!

EDIT EDIT: Do they ship to Canada? I am interested and cannot find out on their site?

You realize that there is ALWAYS new stuff coming out? At some point, you just have to buy, knowing that in a few months, your computer will be outdated and there is nothing you can do about it.

^ PCI-Expresss 16x for graphics is 16 times faster than the orginal AGP bus, but it is twice as fast as the current standard AGP 8x.

AS far as DDR-2, plan to not see it for over a year from today. Most likly even longer. DDR-2 has both memeory problems, and the fact that DDR2 does not perform as well as DDR-1 operating at the same clock speed. (IE DDR-2 400Mhz, does not perform as well as DDR-1 at 400Mhz.)

Indeed, the Geforce 6800 has been launched and will be available to the public shortly. It performs about 2x above current graphic solutions from the Radeon9800pro and the Geforce FX 9950. ATI's answer will be the Radeon X800 line. This will launch during the end of April.

Oh , no problem.

Ok, im done being a smart arse... ;)

For graphics, I would stay with in the Radeon 9600 range and Nvidia GeForce 5700FX range. 128MB is standard for memory on graphic cards today. If you want minimum, I would go with somthing from the GeforceFx 5200 line. The standard for Computer memory is 512 MB. You could get away with 256, but if you pan on running Win XP and other things at the same time, and you are, go with 512.

For the processor, I would reccomend the 2800+ and 3000+. You may want to look at an intel system to see if you can get a Pentium 4 system with an 800Mhz dual channel setup at a simmilar price. The pentium 4 usually beats the Athlon XP series of processors at the 2.8 Ghz vs the 2800+ level. I will take a look.

Far a harddrive, 80 Gigabytes will most lilkly suite you. I would stick to the onboard sound for thier sounds cards are at outragious prices for some reason.

Make sure you have an OS select on the second page of the configuating pages on the IBUYPOWER webpage.

Try configuring this system and tell me what you come up with.

(Make sure you select a motherboard that has the "865" chipset on it. The defualt one is crappy 848 chipset.) The best choice is the intel brand 865 at the bottom of the selction list in the motherboard section. It may cost +50, but intel boards are one of the most reliable around.

THX nukeblaze, now I know if I were to get one of these that I should get a different motherboard.

nukeblaze and kevin, yeah, the new shit wont be about for about a year, but it's a waste to upgrade now, because in 2 years, you will have to upgrade all your shit again when ddr2, pcix, and all that shit becomes standard. If you wait a year and then upgrade, then you wont have to upgrade for years to come, just buy a new graphics card every now and then.

I'm just a tad late, Nuke, but I did that without any luxuries like a moniter or color matching (except the neon lights... :3eye: )

It came up to $879.00, and that's not even with the shipping.. :(

With shipping it's $944.00

Not gonna go. Do you recommend I configure the most basic model, the one before the one you sent me?

Athlon 64 system config. (http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp.net/store/configurator.aspx?mid=66)

I configured an Athlon 64 system with 512 MB RAM , 2800+Athlon 64 processor, Geforce 5600 128MB, Gigabyte motherboard(Quality Brand), Cd-Burner, and windows Xp home, at $782 before shipping.

Could cut 78$ by reducing RAM to 256, or $39 by moving graphics down to Geforce 5200Fx. You could move the motherboard back to the MSI model for 25$. .

It would be better to just keep those specs.

=NukeBlaze=
05-03-2004, 04:48 PM
It would, but I gave options if he needs to cut it down further. If nessacary, you could drop the ram and graphics card, but I would reccomend keeping the motherboard at the gigabyte model over the MSI. Graphic cards and RAM stick are easier to install than a motherboard.

I know, it returns to normal unless you configure it yourself or save it in a shopping cart. I just told you the options that I had and what the price came out to without shipping.
