wow... I just realized that you meant this thread just legitimately reached 1000 posts...... for a while I thought you meant you had 1000 (I was at work and breezed on through and didn't look at your count...obviously)

way to go everyone!....

I wonder if this spicy curry will be inside the bunches of food randomly.....so you could get it just on accident why chomping on some health increasing (normal) food.....that would be kinda funny actually...

Andross (item):
It’s the old enemy of the Star Fox team, Andross! He appears here in his original form, the one with the most impact.
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/images/assist06/assist06_070828.jpg
Whoa! He’s huge.
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/images/assist06/assist06_070828a.jpg
He swiftly moves to the back of the scene...
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/images/assist06/assist06_070828b.jpg
And begins inhaling...
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items/assist/images/assist06/assist06_070828d.jpg
Then he spits polygonal panels out of his mouth!
Like a meteor storm, these panels come flying from the back of the scene to the front. Um, what am I supposed to call these things, anyway?

They just keep flying out like crazy!

I like the text bits the best. Like "Kojima's Rad Party!" where he loses his pants. Sure, some of its dumb, but I kind of overlook that because hes done a pretty good job of re-creating the site.

Haha, and yeh that song was a bit of alright.

There were two updates. Andross, and this one: http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/basic/basic05.html

They use Meta Knight as an example... But he technically is not on the site yet. How vexatiously queer.

Hylian-Advocate
08-29-2007, 09:44 AM
awsome...todays update is Pekmon trainer's special moves.......

this character should be fun to use.....but it might be kinda hard to utilize all those moves at once.... they each are kind of specific in the ways they attack..... you know....?.... like directly upward with Ivysaur...

Nonetheless.... great set of moves...and 9 of em....wow.

and after seeing metaknight's moves..... I still think hes going to be one of my favorite characters!......they look fairly fast and powerful... I am not to fond of the uber slow but way powerful move characters but don't like the uber insane fast characters all the time either becuase I at least like to have a goo and powerful smash in the mix too....

Phoenix
08-29-2007, 02:22 PM
Wow, this is going to be an interesting character. I just hope he doesn't end up sucking like most characters in Melee who got too ambitious.

SuperLuigiBros
08-29-2007, 02:36 PM
Mewtwo was really the only one who the too ambitious... He was all over the place.

Phoenix
08-29-2007, 10:24 PM
Ice Climbers and Mr. Game & Watch too in my opinion.

SuperLuigiBros
08-30-2007, 01:24 AM
Mr. Game & Watch wasn't too ambitious I don't think. The only thing would be making a 2d character in a 3d game. Maybe what moves to include in his move-set, but the move-set itself was fine. He controls great (isnt all over the place) and his moves are just normal attacks.

The Ice Climbers though, I'll agree with you.

SuperLuigiBros
08-30-2007, 02:34 PM
^haha, Peach wasn't too bad. At the very least its straight forward. Literally.

Do you think Yoshi flies like this in Final Smash mode or like Kirby floating around?

Phoenix
08-30-2007, 10:31 PM
Peach's floating is actually good. I just think this will be better.

My guess is Yoshi will fly like Kirby/Jigglypuff without the 6-jump limit. That's how he did in SMW.

Mirai
08-31-2007, 12:11 AM
I'd take Peach style floating over this. You can hold still in the air, and change direction.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage10/stage10_0700831a-l.jpg

there is more pics at the site.....but.... I am not really sure I get it....does the stage morph from mini-game to mini-game?..... thats what it looks like... but do the actual obsticles (staying dry or avoiding arrows) actually do anything...hmmmm....

I wonder if when you actually do what it says if you get some damage taken off of your damage percentage..... now that would be clever.

I wish it were a tad bit bigger though in it's normal mode.

Phoenix
08-31-2007, 02:28 PM
Allow me to be the first to say that they might be going a little overboard with this one. The stages look fun, but they need some mostly static stages. Maybe they're only showing the more obnoxious ones first?

SuperLuigiBros
08-31-2007, 02:54 PM
I was sort of half under the impression that they were leaning towards having too many normal stages.

But I think theyre just getting a few varied stages out in the open to create a little hype. What do you think people will talk about more: 'kinda cool level where not much happens' or 'this really cool level like in wario ware where every few seconds a little mini game comes up and you have to fight around the obsticles'?

Of course this might not be what theyre doing, or even what I believe, but it might be the reason...?

Hylian-Advocate
08-31-2007, 09:46 PM
I personally think this stage is going to be alot of fun...... maybe not for the purist fan..... who just wants to see who can beat who only using standard combat.....aka people who never use items....

but I think the possibilities for this stage are endless.... I mean...how fun and hectic would it be to be trying to avoid the obstacles for bonuses all while brawling at the same time....

I wonder how many their will be in the cycle...

and again... I hope this isn't just background animations (but since hes says youy get rewarded... I don't think that's the case)

Phoenix

...One thing I regret about my old avatar is that I no longer have the right to call people like you sick bastards.

Anyway, on topic, I'd imagine it might be a lot like Pokéfloats or Rainbow Cruise in the sense that it goes on for quite a while rather than just having some occasional effect like Green Greens. Perhaps 12 or so microgames is my guess if there is some pause between them. If it's consecutive, I could guess about two or three dozen, maybe?

If you look carefully at Kirby and Mario in that second pic, you will see that it appears as if they are being damaged by the rain, so thats probably how it will go. Similar to the falling items in the G&W stage, but wont cause as much damage. Maybe like one damage a second that youre in the rain or something. Im sure the other mini games will have similar hazards. Im very intrigued by this level.

Phoenix

There is a cool new sub-space emissary video up on the site today.... it features Pit.....

I really can't wait for this mode... ...I mean... a full fledged side-scroller....... like a Mario game...but with a cagillion awesome Nintendo (and third party) characters in one!!!....

This will only make the game that much more uber-insanely popular in Japan...... I mean....look at how games like New Super Mario Bros. did/has been doing still.

Woah, that was awesome! The music worked so well... if only it didn't stop as soon as it started :(

Hylian-Advocate
09-04-2007, 08:11 AM
guys... I just thought I would let you know something I just realized....the song that is the "Pit's Decent" video..... it's not the same midi one from the "music" section......

in fact....ita actually sounds more orchestrated..... (not that I need to be bringing this discussion up again)..... but you can tell it's using snare drums instead of midi sounding duh-duh-duh-duhs.....

I guess it doesn't mean that it is orchestrated necessarily.....they could be midi snare drums...but I couldn't tell for sure.....

either way... I like the snare a bunch more and this also says that the music they put in the music section is not necessarily the final music that is to be played in the actual game..... cuz obviously these two are not the same as each other....

anyway...just a little observation I noticed.

Delirious

Mario's Down + B move is Fludd (sweet!) It does no damage but sends oppononts flying far. Very cool. And I think Mario Tornado is his smash down or something.

Also, Pokémon Stadium 2! Woot! The Flying stage looks like it'll be a lot of fun. I wonder what the Electric one is like...

SuperLuigiBros
09-06-2007, 02:36 PM
Yeh, its always a nice surprise when theres 2. And Mario's FLUDD is sweet!

But I think Sakurai was hinting at a way to do different moves with the same button presses.

"Huh? What happened to the down special move he’s had up until now—the Mario Tornado?
*picture*
He still seems to have this move, though.
Eh? Is it a normal attack?!"

I dunno... Maybe an item... Could be alternate move set... I don't think they'd change his moves when it isn't all that drastic. Mario's original down smash (his super sweet breakdance moves) wasn't all too different the Mario tornado.

Hylian-Advocate
09-06-2007, 04:20 PM
^well....isn't there still the possibility of pressing "down and then hitting B" vs. "down + B abruptly at the same time"....

or was that originally just something used with the a button..... I can't remember.....if so....maybe now it's done with both A and B

SuperLuigiBros
09-07-2007, 10:50 AM
There could be smash B moves now...

Also, the new update is fucking awesome!

--------------

With the "My Music" feature, you can enjoy the music of our many musicians any way you like. Choose freely from our diverse selection of famous songs!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/music/images/music08/music08_070907a-l.jpg

This is "My Music" in action!

The battle stages of Super Smash Bros. Brawl feature a diverse line-up of game worlds. For example, there are stages based on the Mario universe.

Basically, there is only one song that plays on each stage. But even among the myriad songs of the Mario universe, people probably have different favorites.

Plus, while there may be people who stepped into the Mario universe in the original Nintendo Entertainment System days, surely there are some who first experienced Mario on the Nintendo DS.
With that in mind, I think it’s a bit of a waste to limit that whole universe to just one song.

So we’ve prepared many songs and will let you choose the likelihood that any given song will be played.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/music/images/music08/music08_070907b-l.jpg

This is "My Music" for Delfino Plaza.

For songs you’re particularly fond of, you can increase the likelihood those songs will appear. Then, when you brawl on that stage, the chance of your preferred songs being played increases.
Of course, if you want to, you can limit a stage to only one song, or make every song in the game equally likely to appear.

I’ve asked our reputable list of musicians to provide many songs for this particular game. But that’s certainly not because I just wanted to cover all these songs.

I’ve asked them to choose the songs that match their personalities and tastes!
Here you will find the best of the best—something you can very rarely get a chance to savor.
If your motivation behind your song selections is simply because you like them, then that’s just fine. Choose your settings as you like.

Just so you know, there may be songs from other games that are left as is, without any new arrangement.

Oh, and by the way, there’s an item in the game called a CD.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/music/images/music08/music08_070907c-l.jpg

This is a CD.

Regardless of which mode you’re playing, if you see one of these, be absolutely sure to grab it. If you want to know why, it’s because CDs are the way you add to your music selection.

-------------------

It looks like they've thought of everything.

Yeah, Lyn + Bow = Badass to the tenth power!

Speaking of bow...

Battleship Halberd

It has arrived! The Battleship Halberd! It’s Meta Knight’s battleship...isn’t it?

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage12/stage12_070912a.jpg

This warship’s bow is dazzling!

This stage begins in a hangar on the high seas. The platform follows the Halberd as it departs.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage12/stage12_070912b.jpg

Ooooh. It’s so dynamic!

Eventually, you land on the ship’s deck.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage12/stage12_070912c.jpg

What you see in the background is a double-barreled battery. With an arm.

Use extreme caution near the double-barreled battery! It launches beams and missiles and even attacks with its arm.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/stages/images/stage12/stage12_070912d.jpg

Dodge it well and try to make it hit your foe!

The Battleship Halberd appears not only in multiplayer Brawl stages, but also plays a very important role in The Subspace Emissary. That role is something you’ll have to look forward to.

Looks like a plain platformer level yet again. :(

You know, except for the guns and stuff firing at you.

the thing that bothers me is that people claim that they need the simple levels for the more "hardcore" players, but all the hardcore players I know only ever play on Final Destination anyways, so what's the point?

Hylian-Advocate

That's what I was thinking....actually...if you go back and look at Mellee stages...much of them were just flat with platforms as well..... I sure there will still be ones like Brinstar Depths and Mute city to satisfy the crazy stage lovers....just...they probably want to keep those more outrageous stages a secret for when they are unlocked by actually playing the game.

personally I think all the stages are awesome so far... but yes....I do still hope for the big diverse stages like the (crap.....blanking on the name of the castle stage in melee)..... but I am not doubting that they will be in the game one bit.

Wi-Fi Play

This game supports Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. If you connect your Wii to the Internet, you can enjoy linked battles with distant people!

For details, click here (http://www.nintendowifi.com/).

But because this form of communication is greatly affected by the distance between you and your opponent, your brawls may not run smoothly if you’re really far apart—like, for instance, if you’re connecting between Japan and America.

The more distant you are, the worse your connection becomes, and the slower it feels. I apologize, but I hope you understand.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi01/wi-fi01_070918a-l.jpg

This is the main menu for Wi-Fi!

There are two primary connection methods. The names of these methods are "With Friends" and "With Anyone." The menus and structures of each method are pretty different.

With Friends

Wii friends who have registered one another’s names can play together freely.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi01/wi-fi01_070918b-l.jpg

Register your friends!

If you’re registered as friends, you can check each other’s status. If a friend is online and you earn his or her consent, you can enter a battle.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi01/wi-fi01_070918c-l.jpg

You can change your icon...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi01/wi-fi01_070918d-l.jpg

And even send short messages during brawls!

These short messages are entered in advance, and you send them by taunting. There are four messages for the four directions on the + Control Pad: Up, down, left and right.

With friends, you can brawl any way you like. And there are other modes besides just free-for-alls.

With Anyone

You can also battle with people you don’t know who are looking for brawls. The most important point here is that you will not know each other’s names.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi01/wi-fi01_070918e-l.jpg

If you think of your opponent as a simple scarecrow, any psychological barriers may melt away.

Your opponent will not know your name or any information about you, and neither of you can send short messages. There will also be no battle records kept for this mode, so whether you win or lose, it doesn’t matter. Just sit back and play.

Now, while you’re waiting for a match to start, you can kill time with a little practice on Sandbag.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/wi-fi/images/wi-fi01/wi-fi01_070918f-l.jpg

Practice, practice!

We’re planning a number of services that make use of Wi-Fi, but we’ll reveal them gradually with the other modes. Enjoy.

I mean...for ranked matches...you could have it be a part of parental controls that allow it not to be used for folks who don't want their kids to use it....sooo I don't see why they couldn't do that and say..."pick a screen name and keep in mind that this will be displayed for others to see'

and for crying out loud Nintendo....why no voice chat ....at least when you're playing with friends.....

Yet when you compare Brawl to Metroid Prime Hunters in the online modes shown so far, Hunters is a more detailed online experience than Brawl is.

You say it's forced yet they said back when it was announced that they'd have online available for it. It's not like they realized last week that we want online so they tacked it on, it's been planned since day 1.
What you say here isn't entirely true. Iwata said that Brawl would be online even before Sakurai knew that Iwata wanted him to lead the team to develop it. Then Sakurai later stated that he doubted Brawl as an online game and didn't want to have it online because of the limits he saw while developing it.

Again, more updates coming so hold the complaints until we know more.
This isn't a complaint, it was an observation... one I had made many times... to clarify for you... I like the fact that they have gone ahead with an online mode for Brawl, and the way they're doing it is very much as I expected they would do it.

Recording whether you won or lost a match between a group of players you don't have on your friends list doesn't fall under this category of protection... the only reason I can think of as to why this is, is that the online ability isn't reliable enough to keep record of it like Metroid Prime Hunters does, as mentioned before.

but...... the DS is less capable than the wii......oviously.....

and its using the same Nintendo Wi-Fi conncetion service......

anyway.... their hasn't been any problems tracking stats and ranking players for other games....both Nintendo and other company games.... so I don't see why they would allow for stats in 'friend' mode and not in 'anyone' mode....all you have to do is make a username that can be attached to the stats.... if they don't want people showing their names and Mii characters with strangers for security reasons.....make it an option that can be turned off.

The reason I think this is so important is because its one of the main reasons that drives online games like Halo.... people yearn to up their rank and get better.....but not just against the people they play all the time...

if their is no online mode that allows for ranked matches with strangers as well as friends... I will be disappointed.... it will still be fun as hell...but just not reaching up to its potential without it.

and I can only think that the reason their is no announced voice chat is because they probably want to eliminate any non-uber essential elements that could low the game down.... personally I think voice chat is pretty essential...but if for some reason it slowed the game down alot...which I don't see why it would.... but if it did.... I could go without.....

To me it seems that we've ended up with the exact online that Sakurai wanted. When he said that taking the game online would be hard, he had the following concerns:

- Lag in a game of precise timing
- Online becoming more about competition than fun, making it impossible for casuals to get involved
- Too much focus on stats

If you take a look a look at the concerns he had a year or so ago and look at what came out, it's not a matter of they couldn't get it to work the way they wanted it to, it's a matter of they've gotten it to work exactly like they wanted it to.

Brawl is online, what more could you want? We get to play each other, and randoms... Melee was perfectly awesome without online, so how could anyone be the least bit disappointed?

As Sakurai/Viper pointed out, there are more modes yet to be revealed and I bet one of them is a Tournament Brawl thing like in Melee. We might not have permanent rankings but I suspect there will be other thing in place of it. And like Dee Dubya said, its what they wanted.

What I am saying is that I am completely stoked about the online modes..... but I still wish...and technically they could suprize me as there are still modes to be announced.... that their was mode(s) where it doesn't rank your stats....AND ranked-random-people modes for those who like stats and competition.....

I mean....this games screams for both of these conditions in my opinion....

anyway... I am very very happy about the announcement.... I am just still hoping that their might be ranked modes left to be revealed..... I may be getting my hopes up...but oh well.....

on another note.. I think it would be cool if the single player mode could be co-op and they allowed for an online co-op mode... that doesn't seem very likely ...but it would kick serious ass....

same with team brawl.... I really hope they allow for two on two online battles....

and.... of course.... online tournaments like a few people have said....

oh...and I was thinking...... I can't remember if somebody said this..... but how funny would it be if you could actually play as your Mii caricature..... and their could be unlockable clothes and body types and so forth.... just a random thought I had..... so it would be kinda of like how you could customize vehicles in F-Zero GX..... of course... I doubt this would ever happen....not to mention it might be kinda dumb.

This is obviously fantastic news, but I still really wish there was a headset to accompany it.

Which isn't to say I'm not going to have an absolute ball with it anyway.

IEatFriedPikmin
09-19-2007, 05:08 AM
ouch... the Wi-fi news is awful... I am glad it is at least online, but this is such a watered down experience. No headset. Stats not saved. Friend codes.

I will admit that I like the idea of practice before actually starting a match.

Good online play should be a critical point in this game. Online multiplayer is a standard. SSB is a series known for its spectacular multiplayer... if the online sucks, I am sure it will degrade the multiplayer potential this game has noticeably. Just my opinion.

Lynk Former
09-19-2007, 05:28 AM
Exactly, it's great that it's online, but it is such a watered down experience and that's exactly what I expected it to be... which doesn't make me disappointed with the online mode since it is what I expected. But the truth of the matter is that it is a very limited online experience no matter how you try to justify it.

Sorry if I'm spoiling the party, but I'm not gonna gush cum every time Nintendo reveals something new. And it's not like I don't accept the limits of Wii and everything being released for Wii, otherwise I wouldn't have bought a Wii and be enjoying all of its games.

I understand the bashing of of no voice chat..... AS OF YET....may I remind you that they technically didn't say there isn't going to be any (even though it doesn't look good)....

and I understand the bashing of no stats in Anyone mode..... even though technically he could announce a ranked player match mode (again.....may be wishfull thinking)....

but I don't understand the bashing of the friend codes anymore.....

with Prime 3 you didn't need to enter new codes specific to the game...it just took them straight from your messege boards....... assuming it does that with Brawl...which I believe it will......its the same exact thing as adding a gamer tag with the 360 so you can join in parties and see when their online.......

the only thing you should be bashing is the fact that you cant trade friend codes with random people after you played them should you happen to have fun playing the round with them.... that is what I have been trying to say for soooo long now......

there really is nothing wrong with friend codes...its just that Nintendo decided to be stupid as of right now by being afraid to let gamers have the choice whether or not they want to talk to complete strangers over the net.

and like viper said..... Sakurai may have more modes to talk about...so don't just completely bash it just yet IEFP and Lynk..... I know your happy its in there and just sad it's watered down...but there could be more that wont seem watered down..... meh...if there isn't I will agree though....but will still have a blast.

Lynk Former

I haven't said anything about Friend Codes since they were announced.

Also, you've used the term "bash" quite a bit in that last post Hylian-Advocate... please to associate me with that term.

I think in the end I'm looking for quality over quantity. There may be more modes... but is the quality up to standard?

Hylian-Advocate
09-19-2007, 06:49 AM
I know.... I know... I wasn't trying to say you were a complete basher.....but what I am saying is to not go looking at this and future announcements with the idea that they are simply going to be doing quantity over quality.... right now the anyone mode sorta looks close to that..... but who knows....

and sorry.... I wasn't meaning you when I was talking about people bashing friend codes.....

no worries... I really am not mad at you for thinking there are some shortcomings as of yet....because...like I have said too....right now ....there are.... hopefully the later online related announcements will add more to make up for/fix them.

and on a different note... I was talking to somebody earlier about voice chat and we brought up a good point..... is this the type of game that you'd really want voice chat during matches... I mean....that means they could keep talking and talking all the time.....in games like halo and other FPSs....only your team mates could talk to you...or else you could hear opponents when they are near you in 3 dimensions....

anyway.. I was thinking about it more... and I really would only like voice over for anyone mode if it were before and after the matches...... or if there were teams.....
For friend modes... I would love it ......especially if they have team battle and while your in menus......and especially if you could then have the option of turning it off during game play if you have some blabermouth friends..... so yeah..... for me there would be sometimes where voice chat would suck..... don't y'all agree?

Teh Roxor!

Agreed.

Those holding their breath for stat tracking modes in Play Anyone, I wouldn't bother wasting your time. Sakurai has expressed great distaste for people playing just for stats. I personally agree with him. The one thing that ruins online gaming on XBOX Live for me is people showing off their e-dicks.

"I'm here to punch you in the head. I couldn't care less how many times you've been punched in the head before, nor how many heads you have punched yourself. Now can we play the damned game?"

I had a pretty good list of which non-Nintendo characters Id like to appear other than those 2... but I forgot them. So instead Ill post the Nintendo characters I want to see.

1. Paper Mario
2. Cel-Shaded Link
3. Andy (from Advance Wars) (or anyone, really... maybe have a CO on the side like the Pokemon trainer and have different vehicles out there fighting. That would rock.)
4. Isaac (from Golden Sun)

Of course, if you don’t have a large number of friends, you may not have much need for a tourney.

Still, we’re working seriously to make this mode fun for even those people.

Actually, you can also play this by yourself against computer opponents, so try it out if you’re so inclined.

I will not purchase this game, not even if they switched back to dark menus. The damage has already been done.

I wasn't talking about the symbol......his text is what gives it away that they are making it an online mode.....how else would people without a large sum of friends be able to play tourney mode?
