You can easily transfer your music, videos, pictures and gamesaves to any USB external device. You'd have to download the demos again and you can always download your purchased games up to 5 times.

You don't need to create a new PSN account. You can use your current login and password on a different system, for instance. If you create another account, you won't be able to use the same tag.
Anyway, the info related to system configuration and PSN login is stored in PS3's flash, as far as I know. If this is the case, you won't have to do anything to keep these if you upgrade your HDD.

that's all stored in the ps3, yes. The HDD just saves hard data like games, music, video and pictures, and game saves as well.

Are you using a 250gb interal harddrive? I was not aware they had 2.5" laptop drive with that kind of capacity yet.

sorry guys i mean 150 gb
just to be sure; I wanted to backup some stuff from PS3 and I hooked an external HDD via USB. PS3 wouldn't detect it. shouldn't that work like a USB flash memory?

^ same here, i have a usb external hdd and an iPod and the ps3 won't read what's on them.
xbox 360 reads them both just fine.

The iPod is different from other mp3-players The reason it can be accessed on the 360 is probably that Microsoft owns quite a big lump of Apple shares, but external HDD's should work just fine on both consoles.

Anyone know if the 360 can read it if the iPod is in HFS+?
Just so you know...Microsoft only bought non-voting shares at gunpoint. And they don't own them anymore...
A 150 GB 2.5" hard drive? Where'd you find that?

Of course quite expensive now as it just launched. I think the drives will hit retailers sometime during summer.

No, the data won't disappear, not unless you run a powerful magnet over the HDD.

That's a 4200rpm drive. Just want to point out. Nothing really bad if you are willing to sacrifice a little bit of load time.

Nothing really bad if you are willing to sacrifice a little bit of load time. There are higher speed 200 GB hard drives coming out. $100-120 for a 160 GB 5400 RPM drive isn't that bad either if you're going to cry about RPMs. Then again the 200 GB drive will run faster when you fill it with data.
No, the data won't disappear, not unless you run a powerful magnet over the HDD.You probably wouldn't want to stand near that magnet in person either.
