1080p HDTV owners claim that the game does look that good during replays. It's when the game is displayed on 720p sets when it looks worse. There are offscreen pics in this thread that prove this.

do what I do; go to a gaming store or a TV shop and offer them to 'show off' their game/TV for free by letting you play that game on their set.

if that doesn't work, just break into the neighbors' and use their sets. the problem with that is that you can only play at night and while using headphones. one gotta do what one gotta do, right?

Yes. It'll go to 1080i as the max settings on it's own but you can put it at 720 after that.

Interlacing is ONLY "good" for static images and nothing else... everything that moves, especially fast stuff always looks better progressive.

And since most LCDs which only support 1080i mostly only have a ~1368*768 resolution, you won't even benefit from the higher theoretical resolution...

Funny to see the trolls in a relatively troll free forum. Do you know why?. Gran Turismo is the biggest selling racing game of all time with 48m sold. Prologue will sell 3m minimum full game 10m minimum. It's a bigger franchise than the haloed Halo. That should clear your confusion with the nitpickers. Prologue is like an alpha portion of the full game. It will have a visual etc etc upgrade by the time it releases.

Also I havent seen mentioned spec 2 now has 35 different online portions!.

Polyphony Digital boss Kazanori Yamauchi has confirmed that car damage is finally on the way to Gran Turismo.

“We really, really want to put damage onto our vehicles,” he said, speaking in a video interview you can find after the link. “We’ve had a lot of discussions with the manufacturers and although at the beginning they hated the idea of deformation, now they’re slowly coming around to it. We’ve still got a few to convince, but we will. Expect deformation in the very near future: very, very soon.”

Yamauchi was speaking on the eve of the release of GT5: Prologue in Europe, and far ahead of a 2009 release of the full version of GT5. While not saying whether or not damage would be included in GT5 next year, online updates are already confirmed for Prologue, and Yamauchi said that PSN delivery would continue to play a big part in the evolution of GT on PS3.

“Obviously, we wanted to do a next-gen Gran Turismo,” he said. “When the PS3 appeared, we realised that we needed a lot of time to develop properly on this hardware, so we gave ourselves four years yto come up with a complete programme. As a result, you’re not going to get Gran Turismo all in one go, but gradually, adding online elements and features as we go. The good thing is that it’ll have a long, long lifespan.”

and no, in fast paced games, an interlaced image on a tft (or plasma) always is quite bad... but it also is a thing of personal preference^^ (and to add to that, GT5P won't be real 1080P, but rather 1440x1080P with 2xAA and real 720P with 4xAA, according to Quaz at B3D)

i see prologue growing into a fully fledged game by the end of the year. they'll take the smaller hard drive as a rule of thumb, so i'd say it'll reach 15 to 20GB before GT5 releases. then when GT5 releases (probably with a couple of extra features... lets say damage and whether) so that we can then delete all of that downloadable content and start over again.

in some ways its comforting, knowing theres a year of development between the two, im sure they're not just going to spend that time recording each other doing bornouts...

Also good to hear the word on damage.... ive been playing forza2 a lot recently at a mates place, and i have to say im growing to like it, especially now that im used to the handling. But the damage is what i really like - the concept of a penalty for reckless driving, getting to the end of a race with no damage or just a bump and a scratch (even when you almost get taken out going into the pits....and leaving the pits) is very satisfying. i cant wait to see how polyphony does it.

And ive got a simple solution for manufacturers that don't want their cars to get damaged - tell them they won't be in the game. It's become such a strong marketing tool (particularly for gen y) that really manufacturers should be bending over backwards to get as many cars as possible in the game, and everyone knows a winning car looks better when its got a few dents ;)

Even if it's not an average... It does mean that all of the categories are not really represented at all by the score that is supposed to really be a culmination of all points.

It's just very, very bad in the statistical sense lol. Like... absolutely not making sense terrible lol.

It means that intangibles (kind of like errors in their score system) are accounting for almost all the of the conclusion.

Therefore you'd have to conclude that since the final score does so weakly correlate with the sub categories, the sub categories and the system or method they use to make them is a complete failure lol.

They account for nothing compared to everything the subcategories do not include. So they are very bad subcategories :P

I'm a little worried though. The IGN review said that Prologue has very unintelligent and repetitive AI and there's too much of a grind to get cars and items.

These two complaints have been the biggest complaints amongst GT fans since GT2. I really hope the team learns from their mistakes this go around.

While we await for the final release of the greatest thing since sliced bread, we'll gladly settle for its prologue counterpart. We're so glad to settle, in fact, that Gran Turismo 5: Prologue's release in Europe has catapulted the game to the top spot on Amazon's UK site. It holds pole position (that's #1 in auto race talk, folks) in the PC and Videogames category on the online retailer. Furthermore, Play.com, one of the largest game stores in the UK, is reporting a sell-out for initial shipments.

Play.com has issued a message that initial shipments of GT5 Prologue, for March 25th, are all gone. If you place an order on or after today via Play.com, you will have to wait until March 31st for your order to be processed, and then-some for shipment time. What's especially impressive about this is it looks like PlayStation 3 owners still prefer the tried-and-true method of walking into a store (or going online) and actually owning a physical copy of a videogame.

We can't disagree. We also prefer to have a nice and sleek box, coupled with box art, booklet, and the actual disc. There's just something more satisfying about adding yet another gem to your library, as opposed to downloading it and having it stored on your hard drive. Still, if you prefer to go that route, you can always hit up your PlayStation Network account and drop 18-quid for the best damn racing experience ever...that is, of course, until the full thing becomes available. Remember, 60 cars, 6 tracks (with reverse and alternate routes), tuning, amazing physics, and online.

I've been playing a lot of online races, I'm impressed by how quickly you can get into a race. The one thing that worries me is that I'm not sure if we're gonna be able to race together. The way it's run at the moment, you have no option of inviting people to a race, the other players are just randomly selected :(

PD goes the Sony way, initial launch is crapola and they little by little get to the game. Just bought the game for 39.90€ and as I enjoyed GT4 single player I will enjoy this too, regardless of the donkey AI. Personally wouldn't touch online until mostly finishing the SP game.

As of now, online mode SUCKS...

First of all, the other players drive like shit and play unfairly... (I dunno about penalties, but there should be some) and secondly, you can neither chat nor choose anyone to play with (i.e. NO lobby AT ALL).

But I drove surprisingly good :D Although I "only" had the Nissan GT-R, I managed to drive better than guys with Ferraris and Ford GTs etc...

If you own PS3 you owe yourself GT5P. Anyone telling you it sucks hates gaming, It's improved _LOT_ since the demo, both the drive feel and the awesomely heavenly graphics, shining even on SD tv.

I needed 2 tries for updating.

OMG this game is so PORN!
Especially compared to the demo... god.
The handling, never played something like this before, the feeling in the cockpit is incredible.
The tire sound in cockpit is awesome too, so much improved over GT4.
I have all gold in C class now (had some visitors today which was annoying lol).
Only race i had a problem with was the Time Trial on the HSR with the Suzuki.
That car is a bitch, likes to oversteer but is fun for drifting. lol
Only have Bronze in this race (everything else gold) but also only made it once so i will improve when i got the time for it.
Gosh this game rules everything away.... for me.

And btw. i LOVE the zoom function in the menus for SDTV users, THANKS alot Polyphony for this feature! :thumbl:

Only race i had a problem with was the Time Trial on the HSR with the Suzuki.
That car is a bitch, likes to oversteer but is fun for drifting. lol
Only have Bronze in this race (everything else gold) but also only made it once so i will improve when i got the time for it.
Gosh this game rules everything away.... for me.

And btw. i LOVE the zoom function in the menus for SDTV users, THANKS alot Polyphony for this feature! :thumbl:

Got the Honda Integra for Class C... burned thru it without problems... Now I have the GT-R for Class B and... same here. This game is a wee bit easy now, hopefully it picks up a bit.

Friend of mine (who got the PS3 today for GT5P) had problems^^ He usually is a good driver, but he didn't play in a while, I guess (or rather, he was spoiled by NFS:MW^^)

As for online. I hope, there will be some penaltys for crashing on the "harder" levels... As beginners now really sucks with most people using you as a braking help... Thankfully, the game has no voice chat, or else I would have made him my bitch!

I'm just coming to the end of thee A races. I used the Focus ST for C, saved up for the Nissan GT-R for B and the first few of A, now I've got myself a Ford GT :-D

i think its to stop crashers messing things up for everyone else, a big problem in nascar online games, and sometimes a problem in live for speed on pc too. Usually in lfs theres about 5 restarts to each race, due to pileups at the first corner. Lag can be a problem too, but i think idiots is the main reason. I think rolling starts would also be to prevent start line crashes too. V8 supercars 2 had the same ghost opposition.

Small bumps don't bother me at all, I bump too... but those who use you as a brake before cornering suck... Especially if you are already inside the turn and the bitch crashes into your rear, flipping you off the track.

I really hope, this gets addressed soon. And friendslist stuff, as well as lobbys and chat in-game. Maybe it will come when home launches (which will hopefully be soon, if it gets delayed until then). Because as of now, online is a real bitchfest. At least, you get cash, when racing!

I was talking about the hotlaps... the rest, I got ALL gold on my first try (except the first draft race at daytona... took me 3 tries to get gold at last) (EDIT: And I want to unlock stuff, not get all gold on my first runs^^ So I will come back to the hotlaps later on to get gold easily)

It might be easy for you but I'm struggling on parts to even get silver. The slipstream race for example with Capuccino, man it's frustrating. The best one would be the G25... but that one is a major budget eater at ~200€ in Germany (dunno what it costs in the US etc.)

I'd wait for the new one that launches in may. It has an MSRP of 150USD (retail will surely be lower) and has the extra dials etc. and a 900° turning angle...

And... don't get one of the cheap ones, just look for one of the Logitechs ones with Force Feedback... All of them work on the PS3, as far as I can tell, and they are quality stuff, so they don't break after a month^^

Yeah there are flaws, I'm just still in awe how good the driving feel actually is, varies so wickedly well between the front-, rear and 4 wheel drives it's almost ridiculous :)

The AI is still between tard and ignorant fanboy but it's getting better on every iteration. It's just I lost the VW Golf GTI race because of them bumping to me in corner so I'm still bit pissed :)

Passed the C class Daytona slipstream race on something like 14th go, 5000 credits/silver in bit over a minute so I guess that's the one most people use to gain easy credit, I know I did, first just because couldn't get the gold that easily but after that only because it's so easy money :P

Loving the Lexus IS-F. Should probably have bought Corvette Z06 instead though.

Hmm... A class isn't that hard... maybe it is easier with a wheel. I still drive the GT-R (well mostly, since some races in A Class necessitate different cars) and I got rather used to it. But, I need 2 or 3 tries to get first in A class races.

I will get the Honda NSX-R next for some of the A Class races... Hated that I had to get the BMW M3 though... I do not like BMWs (over here, BMWs are mostly driven by "cool" guys or "wish-they-were" managers... Just bad). I miss real Porsches though... But gotta love the F40 (still saving up for it)



So, I played online again, and I must say... I am getting worried. Since I haven't cleared A Class yet, I am still limited to the beginners races, and most of them are driven by pure idiots... It really does suck starting in 16th place, and does anybody else notice that the cars in 1st and second also have a bit more of a headstart than the rest of the pack? It's really difficult for me to get all the way up to first, and I still have the aids on. I hate to think how bad I'll be if I turn on Pro handling and turn traction control off!

Anyway, I've nearly finished A class now, just saving up my pennies so I can get the F430 for the last challenge.

I've been going into online every now and then, it's really annoying when you get people who will just try and ram you off of the road. I'd accept it in any other racing game, but for this one, it's just not on IMO.

Also, a question about the steering wheels. Do you get pedals with them as well, or are there buttons you use on the wheel?

I like this anonymous feel GT5: Prologue online has.

No stats, no voice chat, no nothing, you just know who you are racing and race him/her.

It's as fun as single player with the added spice of playing real people, no chance of running into retards.

Gran Turismo is supposed to be the "Real Driving Simulator", would you see all of that in a real race? Of course you wouldn't. But I guess some people will still do it, not a lot that can be done about it at the moment.

There are penalties for hitting other cars, going off course, and hitting barriers, but it has to be pretty damn hard to get a penalty for it. I hit a car that went spinning off after it had been whacked by another car, and I got a 1 second penalty. I don't know if that's one second off of your finish time, or 1 second at a reduced speed, I couldn't really tell at the time.

I absolutely love using the cockpit view, the only trouble I'm having at the moment is getting a sense of how far away I am from a wall or from the grass. I've never driven a car before, and then it's even more confusing using the Ford GT, because the steering wheel is on the other side. Sometimes I think I'm right against the wall, and then when I change views to see where I am, I'm right in the middle of the track. I'm sure I'll get used to it, it's just weird for me at the moment.

@GTAce: How the hell do you do you look around in the car?

Sadly, my steering wheel only has 6 buttons, and I need all of them for different stuff beside looking around (flappy padels for shifting, upper left is e-brake, lower left is menu, upper right is camera and lower left is reverse... that's it^^). I really need a new (900°) steering wheel... I never played one of those either. And a real shift knob would be cool to (I do not like flappy padels that much), or like in Rallye, a ring around the steering wheel... But that will never come... at all^^



I am thinking about an "upload your best replays" thread... what do you think?

well I can understand what GTAce goes thru, because I too have to adjust the controller scheme. Because my hands aren't that good either. (I have cerbral palsy and is in a wheelchair) Games like Uncharted and Resistance I absolutely suck at anything above easy difficulty settings. Because my reaction time in those games, aren't that great. But racing games, thats another totally different subject. I do have one major issue, alot of racing games no longer give you the X-gas []-brake option anymore. (Burnout Paradise, Full Auto 2) It me a while to get my hands comfortable to using the trigger buttons on Burnout.

GT, I don't know your situation. (send me a PM if you want) But when I race my NASCAR Racing Season 2003 game on PC. I use a black MOMO steering wheel, and use the buttons on the wheel for gas and brake. So that may be an option for you on this game.

By the way, the king of Daytona Superspeedway will be coming in a few weeks. So be ready!

Yea, I felt like I'd hit a brick wall when I got to A class. Getting a better car certainly helps, but it also provides more of a challenge, as keeping a faster car on the track takes a lot more skill. If you practice enough though, you'll get it. I've only just got through most of the A ones today.

Analogue acceleration is perfect for when you play so much your 'X button pressing finger' gets sore.

Which is what happened to me, having a little trouble with the Cappuccino time trial in Calss C :(
Only managed a Bronze and then it took me ages to get Gold in the Daytona "take over everyone in one lap" challenge with Honda but I managed that :)

Very addictive game and dare I say, I wouldn't play it this much without the in-car view.

I am now too saving for the F430. Hopfully, I'll be at least able to get silver there^^ I hate the Hot Laps, as I am by NO means a pro driver^^ I think, I am good, but I am VERY unpatient!

Segitz, I don't have the game, but if you can I would suggest moving some of the weight towards the back of the car. That would make the rear more stable. And also keep the tires from spinning.

I thought the F430 was gonna handle like a piece of shit, seeing as me and FR cars haven't had the best of times in the past. But I managed to get a bronze on that challenge first time around, and I'm actually quite liking the F430.

So I've unlocked S class and Quick Tune, although I really have no idea about what I'm supposed to adjust to make things better, so I'll leave it alone until I find out what everything does, or perhaps I'll just experiment, I dunno.

the f430 is MR, not FR. this means the weight is pretty much right in the middle (and low too, generally) this gives it a great centre of gravity and excellent balance.

the f430 really is a great car, i used it for all of S class aswell, despite being severely outclassed in the 700 point races. those were extremely tough.

as for quick tune, i tended to find removing as much weight as possible and then setting the power to as much as you can and fit in the rules was the fastest for my style, there isnt much to change though so it shouldnt take long to figure out what suits you.

I've definitely got to the stage where I'm struggling now. I've managed to get gold on 3 of the races in S class, but the others, I can't even get close to the front of the pack, my best on the PP630-680 ones is 5th place. I don't know how much difference getting a new car is going to make, seeing as I'll have to restrict the speed or add some weight on.

The online races on S are better though, the penalties are harsher, so you can't get away with whacking other drivers and riding around the sides of barriers.

I play with a wheel, I usually do not have the extreme oversteer problem, as I can minutely adjust my accelleration. With the Sixaxis, especially if you are playing with buttons for accel and brake, it is quite hard.

If you need cash, take the Integra in C class into the overtake challenge... 7500 Credits per minute, if you win^^ Haven't found a better and easier moneymaker yet.

Give the Cooper S a shot. I dont remember if you can mod in prologue, but if you can, get the MINI and stage 1/2 lighten it, get the horsepower slightly over 200, and throw on some decent tires with a limited slip. Very nicely balanced car, and great roadholding. I know, I have one! :P

I'm totally hooked on GT5:P, the game is amazing! I'm in LOVE, that GTR - 07 is a beast!, PD have to be commended on the sound aswell, the 7.1 Multichannel audio is breath taking and I thought the 7.1 in Uncharted was impressive.

I really hope the Online Lobbies will arrive soon. The one-night stand online is good and smooth but sometimes you need proper lobbies if just to avoid the phycho drivers.
Now it's back to more lovemaking.

I will never finish the game completly because its impossible in pro with the SIXAXIS.
S class sucks, everyone recommend the tuned Elise 111R but its to slow, even with tuning.
Fun to drive though.
My fav is still the Corvette but i will make some money soon to buy other cars.

Oh and i played online too, first race wasnt bad got 2nd but the second race i drove was shit, i overtooked a guy in a faster car because i drove better and then he bumbed me from the track.
I quit because i didnt want to drive with these idiots anymore.

I'm not sure what car to use for most of the S class races. The Ford GT is too powerful for the 630PP races, even if you add on as much weight as possible and take off some of the speed. I tried out the F430, and my best finish so far has been 5th.

I haven't tried out the intermediate and above online races, but hopefully the people on those ones will be a bit more "professional". The only problem I'm gonna have is keeping up with them, but I'm hoping they won't try to ram the shit out of me if I do get close to them.

My PS3 froze twice today :( Never mid-game, but only after I quit the game... Then I needed to reboot manually (via the on/off button on the front) and the PS3 said "it needs to rebuild the database of the hdd"... Strange stuff, and all my friends messages are gone (as well as the names of my renamed videos). Hopefully, it is nothing bad. I don't want to send in my PS3 now^^ And not when GTA4 hits soon!!

the amuse turns seriously quick laps around suzuka, the ford gt is very close, possibly faster in the hands of a human, being quicker but most likely a good deal harder to drive.

Well, I could hook up my PS3 to my PC and record it via my DVB-S card... but thats too much of a hassle for me, and only allows for SDTV sadly...

I thought about that actually... why doesn't Sony set up a server, where you upload your replay and it renders it to an HDTV video^^ That would ROCK! But sadly, we won't ever see something like that :/ I'd even pay a buck for that!

You can feel them good when you play in cockpit.

well I guess you can't lower the ride height to low, then. If the car gets to low, and hits a bump it could bottom out.
