for the aussies out there here is GT5s Holdens List
this was a post on a commodore forum
Sony released the car list for the upcoming Gran turismo 5 of over 1000 cars. I'm starting to think a PS3 might be worth getting, just to drive some of these. heres the holdens and HSVs that are going to feature in the game. There are some quite interesting cars scattered throughout. with at least one of every commodore (and a few variants) plus nearly every concept car, one starts to wonder why even put other marks in at all?

One of my family members will be getting Holden Commodore S V6 07 very soon. Like in the next week or two. What an amazing looking car it is maaayen!! Here in the MidEast its called Chevy Lumina S. Although a genuine import from Australia before the name change.

I hear ya loud n clear smokey. Holden cars are the best and they look macho and I sat in that Commodore I was talking earlier. It feels like a space cabin or something on the inside, huuuuge cabin mate. Loved it. My couzin was like, 'love it, purchase at first sight'.
Oh that Dual Shock3 thing. Gotta spread around for you too Fats. Boy oh Boy, when is that Sony conference? I'm getting anxious now.

oh and yoshaw the VE SV6 are a awsome car. over here in AU the whole commodore range scored CAR OF THE YEAR lol
why arnt they getting a V8 mate? 6.0 litres of GRUNT
Is it just me or does the AI in that video look worryingly similar to the way it's always been? Admittedly it won't load quick enough for me, so I've only seen about 15 seconds.

Oh she wants to, no doubt. But its the usual reason! V8 is too much of a gas guzzler! Only so much she can afford after the high insurance and monthly installment. She's only 21, so...

I haven't seen the whole video yet either, but so far it looks much better IMO. The cars are not all in a line following the perfect racing line. Some of them are side by side fighting each other and one of them takes a corner too tight and touches the grass. I thought it looked promising.
My favourite thing about that video is that the car is right-hand drive. I hope that's an option when you buy any car (assuming the real car is available in right hand drive).

You can see the driver right in GT4 in every japanese and english model.
So i dont think it will be an option.
And yeah the AI looks better.
GTAce, what makes you say that?
EDIT : About every car not having a Cockpit view.

You can see at the end with the Nissan GT-R PROTO he is switching through the views and there is only the cam behind the car, a hood cam (awesome btw) and a bumper cam.
I'll have to watch the YouTube link because I haven't seen it all!

Btw i mentioned it in the event board thread but i have to repost it here again:
I miss the gear shift animations.
Even in the convertibles in GT4 you can see how the driver is shifting gears and here nothing. And the whole steering animation is a bit slow and stiff.

And @ the last pic.... i never thought a F430 looks good NEVER till today lol.
Cant describe how beauty this game is.
is this because of the modeling time?
I would say so aye, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was much less. How many cars were in GT3? 170? GT2 had around 700 didn't it?
GTAce
08-23-2007, 02:18 PM
GT3 had something with 300 and the PAL version of GT4 over 730.
http://www.gamersyde.com/leech_4296_en.html <-New gameplay vid (R8 Cockpit).
Kudos to relio from the gtrp.de board.
GT3 never had that many cars GTAce,
On the downside, far fewer vehicles are available in GT3 (just over 150) than GT2 (around 650). This is attributed largely to the work needed for the more detailed graphics and statistics for the cars, and the game's release being early in the PlayStation 2's lifespan.
Source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Turismo_3:_A-Spec)
GT4 had 721. ;)

Killing Moon
08-23-2007, 03:30 PM
I think the visuals look great and all, but seriously, if this game actually wins a GOTY award simply off of its looks, it just shows how superficial our industry really is, man.
Honest to God, I've put some time into the GT HD demo and it's really a near carbon copy of the last game. Now the more recent videos show much of the same just as well.
But then again, I guess that's mainstream entertainment in general.
Looks over substance seems to win nearly every time.
curryking1
08-23-2007, 04:57 PM
It's GT5 Prologue, how on earth can it win a GOTY? And GT HD was meant to be a tech demo no? I wouldn't expect much different from GT5P. GT5P seems more like an online and graphics experiment more than anything close to a fully fledged game.
When GT5 comes out and it's GT5P with upgrades and more cars and GT4's steering, and the no damage thing, can't you rag on it then? I thought we were supposed to be expecting this from GTHD and GT5P.

lol...killing moon thinks something is a bit predictable....
And what new arguments are your recent posts in this thread supposed to have introduced?
I find it ironic that someone who is so violently opposed to "standing still" is the one who feels the need to post the same rhetoric over and again, almost without changing the post....... unfortunately the rhetoric is so far from the truth now its laughable.
If we were to believe the gap between GT and other "simulators" is a great as you say it is, GT would simply be a crayon drawing from a preschooler compared to the architectural excellence of TOCA, where "damage" equals a car being driveable after a 150km/h collision, and "handling" equals cars getting airborne at mt panorama...
Smokey

VG's post is not seizure-free, ouch.
We just had a chance to sit down with Gran Turismo series creator Kazunori Yamauchi to not only watch the Polyphony Digital president play some expert-level Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, but catch up on how the teaser version of Gran Turismo 5 will play. The early taste of the first proper PLAYSTATION 3 release will feature a number of firsts, including online play, damage effects for cars, and fully modeled interiors.
We spent a good portion of our session going through Prologue's "My Page" features. Most of it is rather self explanatory—Options, Home integration, Garage—but Polyphony touched briefly on the TV functions. The developers plans to show videos of non-game content, including (potentially) real life races, television shows, and "how to" clips created by Polyphony themselves. The My Page Profile aspect was pitched as very straightforward, containing information about the user's personality, but we weren't shown what it actually looks like.
Kaz seemed pretty proud of his latest car museum disguised as a PlayStation game, giving us ample eyeball time with the lovingly crafted car models. He showed us details on a 2006 Ferrari F430, making sure we didn't miss the stitched leather details to our left. Yes, Kaz, very pretty. Players will be able to inspect Polyphony's hard work even during races, as the GT driving wheel will let drivers pan left and right, an option supposedly not available with the SIXAXIS controller.
We also got a bird's eye view of the Lotus Elise convertible from the same model year which he took out for a spin on the familiar Suzuka Circuit. This probably won't come as a surprise, but Kaz was pretty good at playing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The one curiosity I noticed was that he steered with the D-pad, not the analog stick. He told me to chalk it up to habit, having learned how to play his own game on the original PlayStation, before the controller became the analog stick-equipped DualShock.
Hardcore racer will be pleased to learn that GT5 Prologue will also add a new level of mastery for expert drivers, with a Professional driving physics option. Apparently, fan requests for a more intense driving experience led to the change.
Also at the behest of fans is a working damage model, one of unspecified depth. We didn't see Kaz run into anything during our session, so it was hard to tell if the game features the system in place yet. When asked about the new built-from-the-ground-up AI code and the option for car damage, Yamauchi indicated that CPU controlled drivers are aware of the new penalties for playing "bumper cars." With up to sixteen cars on the track, they need to be aware of each and the danger of spinning out when one comes in contact with another.
Yamauchi says these changes will lead to fewer cars lining up as they had in previous Gran Turismo games.
Apparently, with GT5 Prologue being built on a car and component basis, virtual racers will be given a better perspective on how their changes in hardware will affect cars from a performance basis and how they'll look when decked out. After learning this, I asked Yamauchi if the new guys at PD are stuck building just components, like aftermarket wheels and bonnets. No, he said, but that is one of the tests when someone comes on at the developer. Get your tire models right, then you can move on to cars.
Yamauchi also confirmed, via his translator Tsubasa Inaba, that a new force feedback wheel is being developed specifically for the release of the game. The Polyphony Digital staff declined to give us additional details on what changes we could expect, but I think we can safely assume that they're not adding motion control.
The bad news? A North American release has not yet been confirmed. The Europeans and Japanese will get their driving gloves on the game this year, but Yamauchi asked us to solicit fan feedback. They said they'll be evaluating fan interest to see if a US and Canada version makes sense.
You know what to do. If you want it, say so.

This can't be true!!!
Why no vid with damage in then?
:shifty:
Some points to note so far:
- Game will run @ 1080p, 60fps, replays only @ 30fps because they're throwing a lot more additional effects for replays
- The map above the screen will allow you to spot your friends who are online, and their weather conditions
- The calendar will allow you to schedule events with friends, like let's run on the nurburgring on the 28th of november, etc
- TV will allow you to see non game content. TV shows, videos shot be PD etc. The translator said they wanted to do this because people like yamauchi turn their tv on ASA they get back home and look for car related stuff. They'll give more infos during TGS. They hinted that Season 10 of Top Gear will be available for viewing! OMFG!!!
l
- Album will allow you to share shots and replays
- Home is still WIP. Ultimately they want seamless transitions between GT5 and Home. More infos @ TGS.
- GT5P will have all the basic online options you'd expect from a racing game
"PS3 GT5 Prologue - 1 car.
The number of polygons, on average, because we now model the interior as well... on average is about 200,000 polygons, for 1 car.
GT4 PS2 - 4,000 polygons. So the gap is 50x bigger on PS3 than PS2."
BTW the Average polygon count for a car in Forza was 100,000 polygons!

For the first time, Yamauchi experiments with damage modelling. Up until now, this was seen as heresy by car lovers, but for having a higher level of realism, there should be damage in GT. In what form the damage will pan out is not decided yet. The drawn-out driving school of its predecessors was scrapped. You now kann start directly and you have to get licences for new new cars and tracks.

I doubt it will happen, but PD needs to share their techniques or tools, because the game looks absolutely amazing in a league of it's own.
Also, the community and online features appear to be thought out very well...
This game can't be released fast enough and could be the title to really show the true potential of the PS3 as a gaming platform...

Car games (especially GT) tend to have amazing graphics because the gameplay is extremely limited and focused. You're on a closed track and the entire environment is closed off, non-interactive. Cars aren't complex things as far as 3D modeling goes, compared to say, a person. A machine is much easier to make look realistic. So they can really take advantage of PS3's visual power when there's so little to actually interact with or calculate as far as the player 'fooling around' in the game. Not knocking Gran Turismo because I am a fan of the series and it's drop dead gorgeous, but...there's certainly a number of reasons why it looks, and always has looked as great as it does with each generation.

True dat. It still says a lot about PD that compared to any other racing game Gran Turismo just looks much, much better.

So if this game has 16 cars with 200k polygons each plus the track, how many polygons are they doing. The cars allown are 3.2 million, so if they were all on screen at once that is 192 million per sec right their. That donsn't even put into account the amount of effects that are in the game and the background polys. Of course we all knew this game was a show peice for the system anayway.

The cars may have 200k polys per model, but there's also the little thing called LOD (and no, this time it is not lots of ducks), which reduces polys of meshes when the camera as farther away. I doubt, in the trailers when you see all cars running in one screen, they all have the highest amount...

I suppose they have their hands filled with polishing the visuals and all. SIX months per car is a good way to see how full a schedule these guys are keeping for themselves and who here thinks this game won't have atleast 100 cars? That alone leaves it like 6monthsx100car hours for PD folks to invest in their warehouse like heaven of a studio.
I'd say it'd take PD to finish all the car models first and then start building the damage model. Unless they have spare staff lying around like Kojima's rumble guy lol. I'd say everyone at PD is busy modeling cars at the moment. Hence the Damage will be added via an update comment. Speaking technically for a second, since when did updates arrive before a finished game got to shelves? haha just a thought I mean. Don't have to agree.

I don't think RAM is the problem here, but the poly throughput of the CPU and GPU. Using 3.2mil polys on cars alone in any given scene, the scenery will suffer very much.

Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi himself confirmed this, saying that the download won't only be for free on the PlayStation Network, but will roll out later on this year. Some definite good news there!
However, PlayStation site PSU upped the ante of this announcement by contacting SCEI. Their response was a simple: "Yes, it will be free for download on the PSN, and we are thinking of charging---but doubt it. For now it is free."
found that on QJ, sorry if it was already posted

PD said they have been hearing requests from a lot of new comers and vets to the GT series. They also said they were working on addressing these issues, these issues being:
Improved AI
Improved Physics
Addition of damage
There are more and I'm sure you will try to point them out to us as well. In case you were going to say something about the rear views looking assy, they also said that will look better in the final version of Prologue.
With that said, I've never been upset with the way GT has handled the driving aspect. Always loved the controls and always will.

You know what KillingMoon, I think we all agree that the GT series is in need of an overhaul when it comes to AI routines and to an extent the physics as well. Kazunori has said his team is trying to address this, they do realize the problem, they are the ones that made it after all.
But when it comes down to the nitty gritty, GT outshines all others it's just plain to see. I can't believe that GT5 Prologue is gonna be a free download, cheers to Sony for supporting the Hardcore gamers out there lol I just hope it's global and not a regoinal thing.

…and all 3 of these supposedly addressed features are still glaringly similar to the previous game(s). I keep hearing, “they said, they said, they said…” yet the results still don’t show. I want to believe that they’re being fixed, really I do. But actions speak louder than words.
So far their actions aren’t proving a thing as of yet.
Hence why I can’t go all ape-shit just because the game looks photorealistic or has a goddamn cockpit view that is only visually better than every other game that’s done it years prior. I mean, let’s be honest here, who the hell DIDN’T expect these things to be here come this generation?
But I’m sure that the little things, like side view mirror flaws will be addressed in the final Prologue build. If it’s anything that you can be sure of, the visuals for a Gran Turismo will always be polished to near perfection.
Everything else, on the other hand, is still questionable.
But we know your opinion.

There was a scene where Yamauchi cames out of a corner and you can see in the replay that the SL (or was it a Viper.. cant remember atm) was driving in the grass instead of the heck of the F430.
They fight for positions and this in a pretty realistic way a bit agressive like in real touringcar races but not to agressive like it was in TOCA Race Driver 1 for example.

After viewing the 30min. presentation video, there are a whole bevy of other questions that come into play:
- Considering that they’ve modeled the entire interior of every vehicle, what happens when you start gutting the car? Will your racing buckets be shown? Or what about upgraded turbo chargers, does this mean that upgraded FI gauges will show on the dash/windshield? For carbon monocoque, will the entire inside be shown as carbon fiber? And what about rollcages, will this show as well? Also regarding gutting- sound echoes. Will the density of the interior SFX change as you’re gutting the car as well?
- If we’re able to change colors for cars manually (IF!!!), will the pit crew’s colors reflect this as well? Or is this only possible because the user is still limited to a number of pre-set only colors?
Just a few things that came into mind.
The whole player geography thing is a cool idea though.

The crew has the colors of the MANUFACTOR not from the car.

What do you think you’re doing when you go through weight reduction in the Gran Turismo games, dude? Have you read the description of the action before you’ve done it? You remove the rear and passenger seats, stock interior panels, AC and a host of other things. The last level is supposedly changing the entire body outer (and some inner) work into carbon fiber, thereby creating a full fledged racing vehicle.
So yeah, this has been in EVERY Gran Turismo since the first. A staple of automotive tuning. I’m preeeeeeeetty sure it’ll be in the final version of GT5 just as well.
If not, then ah well, just another x mark on a slew of setbacks that the game continues to push through.

No, they don’t have bad quality at all.
We have to take screenshots every day over here straight from the debug kit. Most of the screens that you see posted online are by PR departments; doctored up in some way or another. These shots appear to be taken straight from the debug console(s), literal raw frames at 1920x1080.
Maybe it’s hard to believe since it’s a Polyphony title, but this is actually what the game looks like. You can even see the little nuances, such as the actual pixels *gasp* and where the pit crew isn’t accurately aligned onto the terrain as they move.

Dude, stop.
Most of the other screens, including in other games, are VERY smoothed out in order to hide pixels. It gives off the impression that the game(s) are practically CG movies. They’re also color corrected as well. However, when looking at the actual title, you CAN see the pixels as they are, including other areas that they’ve neglected to show.
Also these are probably shots from when they’re changing around the hues, for all you know.
Really, stop sucking PD so hard and try taking reality (or virtual reality) for what it really is at the moment. The game is still in pre-alpha/alpha phases, there are going to be PLENTY of times where we’ll see it look like shit. Hell, there’ll be times where the end product will look like shit too, just like the previous GT’s.
There’s no such thing as a 100% perfect game on any front.
Personally, I think it’s nice that they (or whoever) showed off the raw screens pre-doctored. Even then, it still looks pretty damn good.

I dont think it looks perfect or something, like i said i can see this stuff in the normal screens as well, maybe not that clear but i can see it.
But these screens here have way more jaggies and i bet with you you wont notice them like this when you play the game on a 1080p set.
Man you dont see it like that in the in-game trailers or videos not even in GTHD Concept (GTHD C looks crisper on my SDTV without RGB than those screens).
I think youre right with the directly taken from an SKU etc. but it wont look like that on your tv.

*Smacks forehead.*
Actually, you DO see it in GTHD and I’ve seen it at 1280x720 as well. The pixels are more difficult to notice because the frames are animating and aren’t still images like these (that and you’re being blinded from the steam of your own breath via your tongue hanging out). But if you take a snap shot of ‘em through the debug kit or through FRAPS, you’d see them clear as day.
Games even when antialiased have a certain amount of jaggies to them. Call it the flaw of dealing with pixels; you can NEVER eliminate them all. Not to mention that these shots are at 1920x1080 so you’ll see more detail than usual (or that you need to see) on your monitor.
I deal with these resolutions every day, man. This is nothing new.

Ya, the only "difference" I see is, that is doesn't have AA, but the rest is more than fine in my eyes. (According to someone at B3D, GTHD does 2XAA when in 720P and none in 1080P, so I am "lucky" :D )

Yeah so compared to other screens they have a "bad" quality.
I dont say it looks bad lol.
Never mind, i hope they release some direct feed gameplay videos at TGS.
Btw. on 9/13 the IAA (http://www.iaa.de/index.php?id=home0&L=1) (Internationale Automobil Ausstellung) in Frankfurt starts.
Maybe we will see something there, iirc they had some demo stands for GT4 before it was released.

If things pan out right, I will be at the IAA as a VIP guest :P (automotive engineering student for the win :P )

Ya, but nothing is set in stone yet... My last exam is on september 16th (iirc) and after that, the IAA goes on for about a week. We (my and two coeds) have 3 companys at hand (Mercedes Benz amongst them :P) who always want engineering students to attend these "shows".
I hope, it works out though. There's some great stuff to be shown there, and Frankfurt isn't far from my house (about 200kms or 120 or so miles)

Blu-ray version of GT5 Prologue to be priced at 45 €? (http://games.fok.nl/news.php?newsid=20395)
GT4 Prologue was like 40 €, so hardly a surprise except for those who believed it would be free with so much content. Good thing the PSN version will be cheaper.

I thought it was 30€, but I may be wrong (or in Germany it was just less expensive, but I REALLY doubt that!)
I hope, there's no difference in content between PSN and BD release. They should release a new wheel too (need a new one soon, I got mine when GT3 was released :D), hopefully again with Logitech (those also work with PCs and have a 5yrs warranty usually)

No no GT4P was 40€ (overprized).
45€ would be okay for GT5P because it has content but why said Sony it will be (maybe) free?
If they now make the game available for 20 or maybe even 30 i could understand this but 45 wouldnt be a good strategy imo.

I'm glad there will be a downloadable version which I hope will be around 20 € at most, because otherwise I won't even consider it. I paid 54 € for MotorStorm and even though I can name a game that has pretty much the same content as GT5P (although not even remotely in the same quality) and was released at full price not so long ago, it's still asking for too much for a "prologue".
It's a lot more than a mere demo, no question, although people will just complain about it.

GT5 Prologue Price Rumors "Categorically Incorrect" (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/819/819555p1.html)
SCEE has quashed internet rumours suggesting that the Blu-ray version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will cost 45 Euros when it launches in Europe later this year. According to Sony, these reports are "categorically incorrect", with no decisions regarding price currently made.
Originally, various internet sources had claimed that price news had been announced by Sony Computer Entertainment Benelux (covering Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) during a press event.
However, while a Sony UK spokesperson did reiterate that Prologue won't be be free - unlike the previous demo - they confirmed that a price point for both Blu-ray and PlayStation Network versions of the game are "still all to be agreed".

I wanted it to be very cheap, even free :(
Will pay 20-30 € at most, otherwise will wait for the real thing.
There better be changing weather and damage upgrades for even such cost, now back to work PD :whip:

What do you think Sony are a charity?. It will have atleast 40 cars and 5 tracks. Aslong as it's reasonably priced.

What do I think they mentioned they might release it for free. That's bait and catch, if they don't want me to remember such things they shouldn't say things like that in the first place.
If it was only a speculation from some journalist then I'll go punch him in the nose.
Reasonably priced = 20-30€ atmost.

All these rumours are just silly rumours, obvious from the outset that it would cost. As is this $399 ps3 to combat Halo 3 but i expect a price drop close to fall. Or the Killzone demo coming this week to combat halo. Probably all started by MS. Basically everyones expecting these now and when they dont materialize it's all Sony suckerz, Sony lies.

No fanboyish comments from me. Just pointing out these rumours are ten a penny. And sometimes result in almost turning into official announcements. And when proven to be untrue Sony are slated.

At Leipzig, during Yamauchi-san's half hour presentation he stated categorically the Prologue would be free. I have the entire video in my PS3(I likes to watch the purdy cars) which I'd show you if HOME were up and running.
Now I've never expected it to be free but, anything more than £10 is just plain taking the piss.

A demo version will be available at the 10/20/07, in the demo is a "mysterious" vehicle called 'FUKUMEN GT-R'. For the first time in the series will be Daytona in the game. In GT.TV you can watch info programs about cars from the entire world.

Sooo we have a japanese price, a release date AND we know that we get a demo first.
Im pretty excited with Daytona.
But could someone tell me how much it would cost in € or $?
4980 Japanischer Yen = 31.14638 Euro
4980 Japanischer Yen = 43.20889 US Dollar
By the way will they show a new GT5 Prologue Track?

Yeah, 30 euros seems about right. In before the "OMG Sony charges for demos" BS though.
Sense this is practically like a full game, and an awesome one at that, I have no problem paying the £25 (£20 on PSN?) I expect it to be in this country.
