I had no problem with the draw distance and I've played it on my 720p monitor and SDTV.
curryking1
10-21-2007, 05:55 AM
Ya, the draw distance is superb, I dunno, the complaints about dd shouldn't be there, but it is kind of disappointing to hear that the game runs in 1280x1080 instead of 1920x1080 when that's really what I thought would be happening.
I hope for GT5 they manage to get 1920x1080p during gameplay, with 2xAA (hopefully FSAA) but that may be asking/hoping for a bit too much.
But honestly, the graphics are as tight as I expected them to be even still.
But I do........... have a few very disgusting peeves about the visuals.. they are very minute, but they really throw me off and take my enjoyment from the visuals sometimes.....
Few things I really have to get off my chest about the graphics though, and I know it's only a demo but....
1. Seriously, that blur effect that happens right on the top of the car sometimes, that's disgusting, take that out. The focus effect doesn't look that good in the replays, just take out the focus blur period...
Motion blur is amazing in the game, but the focus blur looks really, really nasty sometimes. Just let me see the super sharp car models and it'd look ten times better with stuff flying by in the background!!
The focus effect is amazing during the Garage sequence, but it totally isn't working the way it needs to many times during replay, just take that ***t out of the replay.....
2. The HDR is absolutely spectacular, especially during gameplay from the in car view, but there are a few times in the replays that it looks retarded. Like.. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy too much bloom sometimes, especially if you put your car as white or silver!!! Never in my life have I seen so much bloom, why is it in my GT5P like that! That ugliness is reserved for other games, not for GT!
I hope to god they take those two elements out of the replays.... I just want to see my super sharp car models, because these two elements often times make the game look worse, blurrier and definitely not better at all.
3. Less important by a long shot, the shadows from the trees seem to sharp and look awkward when they hit the car, look DX9ey and videogamey as opposed to the rest of the CG look of the game :(

Have you played GTHD?
I don't remember the cockpit view in GHTD, also I don't remember the other 15 cars on the track.
I must have missed both.
And to think my PS3 is selling on Ebay right now. Damn it. LOL, aw well, there's always next year.

Why are you selling your PS3?
Too little time and a lack of interest in games in general. I think my gaming life peaked when I was about 17. :)

Well,
I couldn't play yesterday, but my first hand experience is... I AM BLOWN AWAY
I showed it to my mum^^ And she said, it is like watching real racing on tv.
There are some things here and there (the AI is too easy, I have to agree GTAce), it is jap only (stupid PD should have at least english menus^^) and there are still only 2 cars. I also found it sad, that there's no car settings (i.e. gears, suspension et al, and sadly no tuned cars (yet?)).
Compared to my experience with the GC demo (I am sure, it was the same at the IAA), the graphics got better all the way (there was no AA in that demo yet). The replays are just... awesome. The PSN trailers don't even cheat (well they do sort of, as they are 1080P but I cannot even remotely tell if they were upscaled or not), the game DOES look that awesome. Sadly, I do not have my FF wheel here atm, so I can't really race all that well.
And, there's as far as I can tell (my japanese is... well nearly nonexistant, only some simple stuff stuck in my head) there's no option to save replays. That's very sad. I love saving good runs :D
I hope the soon to begin Tokyo Car Convention (or whatever it is called) will unlock a multitude of new cars to select. And maybe the other (at least two) tracks. GT5P cannot come soon enough so, at least to Europe :D (I fear, we get it in March, as when GT4P and GT4 were also coming 4 months late here too). Come on, it cannot be that hard to localise that game (and rendering in PAL on a PS3, when the game runs at 720P/60 should NOT be a problem). I mean, there is NO text at all within this game. NONE AT ALL^^ (except some menus).

4 Cars, GT-R black mask, BMW 135i Coupe, Daihatsu OFC-1 and the Evo X.
We should get the WRX, IS-F & Atenza soon. 8)
And curry what do you mean with to much bloom?
I thought its pretty realistic even on white cars.

I dunno... I thought it was kind of excessive, I was replaying my Lancer laps with silver colour and I was getting really annoyed with the bloom....

I use the Logitech Driving Force Pro and the wheel works great.
There's a shifter, but no clutch or neutral, but you should be able to find the wheel at a great price.
If you really want a clutch and the latest features I agree with VG and you should wait.

Occasionally they are just as stupid as ever, if you're in their racing line they try to push you aside.
But I do love the cockpit view.
It would also help to understand which option does what, I've understood you can adjust the stability level in the pre-drive options, probably it's that 1-10 slider.

Finally a chance to flex my japanese reading muscle
Most of the menus are in japanese english. I.e. english words written in japanese writting. They are a bit stupid to read sometimes with words translations like
It just gave me a message about GT-R 07 (Which im sure i already had) and 24th October - ohh theres a new message about it under news. A new car maybe? I can't read it lol.
Arg. The one of the cars are gone and its now saying coming soon. I think they've removed one of the GT-R 07 for some reason.
Any way the menu items in order
Transmission (obvious one)
Simulation - Options are Standard then Proffesional
Stability Management - On and Off
Traction Control - 0 to 10
Front Tire - Normal 1 - 3, Sport 1 - 3, Racing 1 - 3
Rear Tire - Normal 1 - 3, Sport 1 - 3, Racing 1 - 3
And the two things at the bottom say
Cancel and Start
You can proceed in this? How do you unlock those other cars?
And where does the GT videos save to because they took a few minutes to download but I have no clue where they are on my hard drive. I have little space as it is so if i wanted to delete them in the future it seems I'm kinda stuck
- Oh no you delete by going to them and pressing triangle in the game

BEST COCKPIT GAMEPLAY EVER. Easily beating out TOCA3’s
It’s not even intrusive ala Ferrari F355 or PGR3 and 4. The animation is JUST as smooth as your analog inputs, so it’s not distracting. If anything, the response is on par with the on screen display bar of your inputs during a replay mode.
The physics seem the same as GT4, which isn’t a bad thing. You’re gonna plateau there sometime. GOD, now I REALLY wanna see damage modeling in this game. I’m gonna rape this after I get off work today.

Btw. with the cockpit view, i was surprised how much overview you have even with the interieur.
I can drive better in the cockpit as in the bumper view.

No actually I’m being VERY serious.
I’ve played way too many racing games that have had this POV, but I’ve never experience ONE that was on par to this yet. The best so far has been TOCA3 and that’s simply because of its slight aesthetics and its functionality. But even then it had certain things that turned me off (notably the tint).
In this so far, it’s SMOOTH. The animation is smooth with the inputs, the suspension and body roll dynamics are on par with when using the bumper cam (ala GT4) and since all of this works cohesively with the gameplay, I can actually ENJOY the visuals w/o compromise.
I didn’t test it, but is the bonnet cam still here?
I used the Evo X, but didn’t fiddle around with everything else yet. I’m gonna mess with it more once I get out.

Obviously this is from a more recent build of the game, because there's more playable cars and the interior lighting seems improved. ^^You're totally right! I can't wait to see the final build of the absolute king of the GT5 games... which is simply GT5 XD
That's definitely, definitely from a later build, amazing find Nameless. You can really tell through the mirror reflections too, the side mirror isn't 'gimped' in comparison to the main mirror. In the demo the side mirror doesn't even reflect the lines on the road lol!
It makes me feel a lot better that these things are improving and that the one I have is unfinished! There's little tiny things like the shadows and the side mirror (not as noticeable when driving I guess) reflecting less than the other mirror!
The shadows look so much cleaner and the reflections look ten times better! I can't wait to see the final product!!!
So happy :cloud9:

The game seems good so far. Other than the awesome ass cockpit view, it’s basically GT4 really. I think the euphoria’s worn off now.
Just to compare, I used a stock Evo VIII in GT4 last night with similar R3 tires. Other than minor characteristic differences with the cars, it’s basically the same thing.
Curious to see how this progresses.

GT5 vs. GTHD video comparison
Monday 22-Oct-2007 5:21 PM Japanese Prologue demo shows just what PS3 is capable of
Gran Turismo has always been known as a series that pushes Sony's hardware to it's absolute maximum, but then GT HD turned up and although it looked nice, it lacked that 'wow' factor.
Now the GT5 Prologue demo is out on the Japanese PlayStation Store (free to anyone cunning enough to sign up for a Japanese PSN account), it shows what GT should really look like on Sony's high-performance hardware.
We've run the two demos side-by-side to give you some idea of what Sony's eye candy department has been up to over the past year.
The first thing to note is the fluidity of GT5P. The 60fps frame rate is solid as a rock. But the whole game just looks a lot slicker than the first GT HD demo, which now looks comparatively dull and washed out.
Sony has clearly upped the bloom lighting in the new version of the game, thrown in the fan-favourite heat haze (which blew us away in the PS2 era - remember that?) and brightened all the colours too, giving the game a sharper, shinier look.
The dust and smoke kicked up by the tires are far more convincing too, and can be so thick it's almost blinding when a car up ahead runs off the course and makes a mess.
Is this the best-looking racing game yet? Yes. Forza 2 looks smooth but bland and not as slick. Maybe we'll throw up some comparisons between that and the full version of GT5P when it's launched later this year.

To be honest, people complaining about the courses in GT5 being bland are morons. They’re captured off of real courses, so what can they expect? Polyphony’s being true to the source material.
When they begin showing off the city courses, then they can compare. Until then, Suzuka Circuit is just Suzuka Circuit. In this particular case, they need to

Yea GT does a good job of looking realistic without being bland. Its easy to make a realistic game and have it end up looking too bland trying to replicate a real world color pallete and such. But GT hits that middle ground of being realistic without being bland imo.

Thats the problem with games. The HDR effects and saturation are made to look so rich it looks slightly surreal in that it seems like its gone past reality.
Another big problems is that you can see something in a game, think - it doesn't look like that, and then see it in real life and realise that it in fact does. I noticed this with a water effect recently.

Pfft, this is non-new compared to what I have to tell you...
GT5 signs deal with Top Gear
Polyphony Digital has signed a deal with BBC Worldwide to let you watch Top Gear on your PS3.
You will be able to enjoy up to 40 episodes of the motoring show using the new Gran Turismo TV channel, which will launch on the PlayStation Network sometime next year and feature all the goings-on from the world of cars.
The BBC has also given the go-ahead for the famous test-track from the show to be replicated in Gran Turismo 5, so you can pop on some slightly bizarre music and thrash all sorts of expensive creations around the track just like the enigmatic Stig. (I will so beat his times!!)
"We're sure that players will be as thrilled as we are when they get the chance to put their own driving skills to the test on the Top Gear Test Track in GT5, as well as enjoying classic episodes of Top Gear via GT TV," said Kazunori Yamauchi, end boss at developer Polyphony Digital.
Unfortunately Gran Turismo 5 still looks to be a long way off in Europe, with only a tentative date of July 2008 mentioned for Japan so far.
But those of you eagerly awaiting it will be pleased to know that a demo for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is now on the Japanese PlayStation Store, and all you have to do to get hold of it is create a mock account for the region and begin downloading. But be quick, it will disappear forever on 11th November.

That’s a good damn question.
I was trying to check out the Best Motoring trailer and it’s only downloadable, not streamed. Which sucks even more due to the fact that it’s not downloadable in the background; you HAVE to sit and watch the progress bar.
GT TV’s a nice additive though. I don’t know about it being the “best” anything; it’s just videos placed in the main UI.
The first time I tried downloading this new vid, it got about half way and an error came up. At about the same % now *crosses fingers*

No, don’t get me wrong. I think it’s a nice additive feature, but it’s not that big of a deal either. It’s a cool distraction, I have to say, but it’s minor, at best. I still like it, just not, “OMFGRZ, it’s fawking videos, man!!!!!”.

i have to agree with this. GTTV conjures up an entirely different idea to 'downloading' i saw HD yutube... GTDowloads would have been the fairer and less confusing title for this feature... i suppose there is a chance that it will be streamed eventually though

How is any of this breaking new ground, per se? You JUST listed all the components that caused GT to stand still developmentally.

Yeah, I still love it.
I just tried out the new Nissan GTR. God, that thing has some serious understeer. Had to downshift to about 1st and 2nd gear to pull off some shallow corners. Yep, it's a Skyline alright.
And the new Lexus ISF seems good, but there's significant wheel spinout after apexing a corner.
I wonder if Polyphony will have the new Supra in the final build.
God, this game still plays good as hell. LOL My complaints are more due to the actual characteristics of the vehicles, not of the game itself.

Remember, Lexus is basically Toyota’s high end designs. So more than likely most of the models will be fairly powerful, similar to Mercedes.

Top Gear on GT5
Our inbox will be relieved at least. Not a day goes by without somebody firing us a note saying either they - or their amazing old Capri - can lap the TG test track faster than Stig. Next year, on Playstation 3, you'll be able to find out.
Top Gear has hooked up with Sony to make our iconic test track part of Gran Turismo 5. And as an office with the permanent distraction of a Playstation 2, race seat, force-feedback wheel and a copy of the current GT4, it's the best news we've had since Alonso missed out on the F1 championship.
The latest iteration of the GT series will also be fully online - and, alongside lapping the TG circuit, players will be able to download classic episodes of Top Gear via a dedicated motoring channel called Gran Turismo TV on the Playstation network.
So, how long do we have to wait? As with previous versions of the game a scaled-down prologue will come first with around 10 tracks and 60 cars. This will feature the Top Gear TV content but not the TG track. There's no official word on when this is due, but we're expecting it to hit the UK around Spring next year.
The full version of the game is due to arrive around Christmas 2008 and, again, details are yet to be confirmed. We have been told to expect around 900 cars and, of course, our track.
We'll obviously keep you posted on the development of the game, but in the meantime check out our guide to the TG track (http://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/2007/10/stories/09/1.html) to find out exactly what you'll be letting yourself in for.http://www.topgear.com/content/news/stories/2368/

Gran Turismo 5 and its TV media service will broadcast episodes of the BBC's motoring show Top Gear, developer Polyphony Digital has announced.
The firm has signed a deal with the BBC that will see 40 episodes of the programme become available to download as part of Gran Turismo 5's TV media service.
The deal, which will show Clarkson, May and Hammond's motoring exploits, will also see the Sony game include the Top Gear Test Track, a track that is featured on the show each week as the hosts test the latest cars.
"We at Polyphony are great fans of the world's best motoring programme, Top Gear, so we're delighted to be collaborating with BBC Worldwide to deliver Top Gear content via Gran Turismo,” Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi said.

Joystiq interviews Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi
8 Comments by Christopher Grant Oct 24th 2007 3:29PM
Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3, Adventure, Interviews, TGS
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/tgs07-gt-tv-top-gear.jpg
During TGS, we had the opportunity to visit the studios of Polyphony Digital and meet with the man behind the Gran Turismo series, Kazunori Yamauchi. We had just finished watching a demo of their video-on-demand GTTV service – which was announced during a Japanese-press only event at TGS the preceding day – and got to poke around their studios (check out Gamespot's fancy video tour) before sitting down with the man himself. We talked about GTTV (of course), the current status for Gran Turismo on PSP, how they reached the elusive 1080p goal, and if their PSP/PS3 connectivity ideas are any better than a rear-view mirror.
Gallery: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Thanks for taking the time to meet with us and show us the game and your studio. It's very much appreciated. Could you explain the rationale behind releasing GT5: Prologue before releasing the full Gran Turismo 5?
So there's basically two reasons behind GT5 Prologue. First one being, as we move with the franchise to a new generation of hardware, the PS3‚ and trying to extract the maximum out of it and being comfortable, it's already taken us three years to get to a point where we're almost happy with what we're delivering on the system.
But we thought it's about time we release something on our franchise. We thought if we waited until the full numbered series product is out, number one we'd keep our customers waiting too long and we wanted to keep people aware we're still around, and keep GT in people's minds. So that's the more obvious reason. The second reason kind of relates to the first one; if we waited for GT5 with the online elements that we're talking about, such as GTTV or whether it's the online dealership concept or given the basic racing head to head online capabilities, we wanted to keep those experiments to a rather smaller compact designed game and be able to experiment on a base that is small rather than having a humongous base to start with and for us to be for the first time bringing the online elements to the franchise with the scale of a huge mothership so to say.
Speaking of GTTV, you've just said that GT5 has taken so long to develop, are you worried that things like licensing complications could further delay the actual, final product?
Looking at the angle of our relationship with car manufacturers and licensing that surrounds those, luckily we have a history of ten years in our franchise and we've managed to establish a very good relationship with all if not most of those parties. so that really isn't affected in any way. So that's one thing. The other angle surrounding GTTV, again a lot of the content really doesn't have a deadline or an airing date that needs to be hit, so it's just a matter of us clearing the rights for the content and whatever is cleared first will appear within the window of GTTV and we can add and expand on that.
Gallery: Gran Turismo TV (PS3)
Just yesterday at the keynote they announced the rumble controller. Is that something you guys have known about for awhile? Is it being built into GT5 Prologue?
Yes, we did know about the new DualShock 3 controller. In fact, we were part of the evaluation process here at PDi and, for obvious reasons, we've always historically supported DualShock controllers since the first generation and we will support DualShock 3 with GT5: Prologue.
How about things like SixAxis controls? Have you thought about implementing motion controls into the game?
Obviously, yes, there is a feature set of the SixAxis but we do not plan to implement that in using it to control the car, the actual car in the race, but we have studied the characteristics of the controller, we have experimented with it and the GTHD free download that we started last year. We implemented one feature which was, if the person puts the controller down, the user interface will disappear, and if they pick it up it will appear back. Features like that we plan on implementing in GT5: Prologue. We feel like that is a good match.
You've obviously been more than busy with GT5 over the years. A couple years back there was an announcement of Gran Turismo for PSP and we haven't heard much about it since then. Has that been put on hold for GT5, or are you still actively pursuing it? Sometime in the future or not at all?
This is still in the works, so we are still working on it, but this will be after GT5 on PS3. Because of the interaction of the PS3 – well, it's not that easy to develop on PS3 – we've had to put it aside a little bit, yes. But once we get GT5 out we hope to position it as the satellite to GT5 on PS3, GT on PSP.
Interactivity between PSP and PS3. One of the examples they showed at E3 two years ago was the idea of a rear-view mirror in a racing game ...
*laughs*
... so that example probably not being the best application of the PSP, have you considered any other kind of PSP interactivity with the PS3 and GT5?
Well, one example would be for people to utilize replays of their race experience. Take that outside the home, whereas at home you would need the PS3, but they can take that away and share. Another would be – and we would need to do further research, we're just talking ideals here – but it would be nice if we were able to allow people to compete whether they're on the road or in their living room on the PS3, compete in the same race. Even though the visual qualities will be different depending on which hardware they're on it would be nice if we could allow for that. Technically, we think we should be able to. Or another would be – a feature we had on GT4 B-spec – which is basically you're the race manager. You don't even need to steer the controller, you just set the car and let it go; you're managing it. Another example would be the PSP would be your management tool: give it input and give it instructions and the car would continue on with the race.
So the game runs at 1080p, 60 frames per second. That's something that, even on PS3, a lot of games haven't been able to accomplish. How much of a development concern was that when you were building it? How much time did it take to get the engine – which looks great running at that resolution – up to snuff?
First of all, Kazunori insists that a racing game runs at 60 frames per second. That's a must have from his point-of-view. And the characteristics of racing, or racing games, is that you're most of the time driving at high speeds. At high speeds, your view points are in the distance. You need detail, even for distant images, and 1080p was the only resolution that he could possibly think of. Both 60fps and 1080p were both must haves for the GT experience to be the GT experience. They've done some experiments on 720p to see if they could find a compromise but the minute they saw it, it was out the door.
So that's GT5. Gran Turismo PSP we already discussed. What's next after that? More Gran Turismo games?
Kazunori always wanted to do something beyond Gran Turismo, but with the PS3 and all the downloadable possibilities, that dream is further and further away. *laughs*
Thank you so much for your time!

Gee, ya think?!
What’s worse is that with all the talk of “perfection”, they’re not executing anything better than what has been done before. Alright, maybe except for the cockpit view; I’ll give them that much. Rewriting the same code won’t make it any better though. This game still controls, plays and feels exactly like GT4 before it.
Adding insult to injury, most people don’t even realize that GT5 is a next gen game UNTIL the replays are displayed (thanks to post processing effects). Initially when I was hearing this around the office, I became annoyed; figuring that they were just acting like assholes. However, the only serious difference visually are the cars [at the moment], which when racing to the general onlooker, aren’t very noticeable.
In hindsight, there was a HUGE difference in reaction when I threw on the Pro Street demo.
Under normal circumstances, I would side with Polyphony in the 60fps claim. These days though, it’s not as detrimental due to processors being able to match response time with on screen display much more easily. There are so many racing titles that prove as much on these current consoles, running at 30fps. Sixty just isn’t necessary anymore, even if it looks a tinge better (at the sacrifice of nothing being interactive whatsoever).
Oh, and the 1080p claim. That’s utter bullshit. The resolution increases, but detail in art assets does not. Lastly, the game isn’t even displayed at 1920x1080 yet to begin with.
This series really has a lot of growing up to do. They’re so fixated on the beauty of a single leaf that they’re missing the point of an entire forest out there.

It is the "Nürburgring Nordschleife" (the 20km track from GT4)^^ Dunno if they call it "Nuremburgring" in Anglo Saxon though...
And yes, the Nürburgring would be a huge track... See, the demo now does NOT stream textures (the HDD is "dead" during a race), so a 20km track is likely to tax the hardware even more.

Well, mine was a Edition 2000 Astra G with... and now hold your horses^^ a 1.2i 16V engine, that had 75bhp^^ This is pure power :D (I had a '92 Mazda 626 2.0i GLX before that... Really nice ride actually).

It actually did 38mpg though (about 6 liters per 100km). Cut about HALF of those features out and that’s more than likely what will be in the game. Polyphony has a very predictable pattern with each game and always seems to come up with these pie-in-the-sky feature lists that never make it into the final build.

It was actually a pretty long survey took me about 45 minutes, it was an email from the playstation underground (not even GAP) so I thought everybody would get it. What was weird though, the link in the survey email sent me to surveyonline.com to do the survey, not the playstation website.
It also covered Need for Speed and Midnight Club series.

F1 won't happen either... The franchise was Sonys (they gave it away after F1CE afaik) and Mr. Ecclestone is starving to death and needs money for food...
So, a F1 license is sure to be NOT in the game.
Le Mans would ROCK though... Not just a simple 24hrs race, but 24hrs with changing weather, day and night and (here is where damage is MANDATORY) breaking cars (also engines and all that stuff, without crashing). Also there's many more 24hrs races (like at the Ring and such).

its going 200+MPH, going three-wide into a turn inches apart, and theres also strategy involved (should I take four or two tires, do I have enough gas to make it to the end, etc.)

Well, we Europeans are not used to the idea of oval courses... None of the known tracks are infact ovals (the Euro Speedway has an oval though) and none of the big racing leagues drive them.
"Our" motorsports involve competition on the track, not because of some "aerodynamics" (this is not bashing Nascar, I watched it too very interested back in the 90s). Thing is, Nascar is just a bunch of cars driving in an oval, trying to overtake the others thru an advantage in aerodynamics, not thru "better" driving round turns and stuff (this is also why F1 got very bland over the last days, as most decisions are made in the pit). Watch DTM or V8 and see what I mean.
Nascars "speed" and crashes are nice to watch, but the rest of the race not so much (for me at least). If the F1 didn't limit the cars artificially (going from a 3 liter V10 to a 2 liter V8 for example, outlawing Turbos and Compressors), the could drive that fast too, but it is simply to dangerous for the drivers.
But then again, the smaller racing leagues are much more intersting either way, as there, the decision is not made by whomever has the most money, but who is the better driver (in DTM, the winners have to put more weight into their cars in the next race to slow them down).

Gran Turismo Awards Crowns “Best in Show” at SEMA (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/11/02/gran-turismo-awards-crowns-%e2%80%9cbest-in-show%e2%80%9d-at-sema/)

Last night, during the 2007 SEMA Show, Kazunori Yamauchi - creator of the Gran Turismo franchise - and PlayStation hosted the Fifth Annual Gran Turismo Awards at Las Vegas hot spot, Tryst. Every year, hundreds of SEMA Show exhibitors enter their customized vehicles into the GT Awards with hopes of being crowned “Best in Show.” What’s the big prize, you ask? Much more than HUGE bragging rights, the Best in Show vehicle is immortalized in a future Gran Turismo product for millions of fans to drive!
Check out this video for a taste of what GT Awards is all about.

Industry experts scan the show floor and judge all the entries to select “Best in Class” winners for the following five categories: Best Hot Rod, Best Japanese Import, Best European Import, Best Truck/SUV and Best Domestic. From there, Kazunori Yamauchi carefully examines these “Best in Class” winners to select the BIG ONE – Best in Show.
Check out the category winners from this year’s GT Awards below:
2007 Nisson 350Z - Best Japanese Import2007 Factory Five GTM - Best Domestic2007 Dodge Ram - Best TruckSUV1967 Ford Mustang Fastback - Best Hot Rod
The winner last night at the 2007 GT Awards was a 2007 Audi TT submitted by Marcel Horn. It is a beautiful car and we are all very excited about driving it (very fast) in a future GT product.

Also, check out this image below of last year’s GT Awards winner, a 1960 Corvette that was playable in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue at Tryst last night. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is set to continue blurring the lines of racing simulation and reality – it looks amazing! Just think: the same amount of data used for an entire car in GT4 is now used for just one headlight in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. WOW!
Following the awards ceremony, guests were also treated to an outstanding live performance by Chris Cornell. He rocked the crowded house with a set that no one will soon forget.

This was followed by an announcement of an online car dealership screen in “GT5 Prologue” that was newly added as part of taking the game online. Whereas the car dealership screen up until “Gran Turismo 4” only contained screens for selecting a car, the new online car dealership screen is the source that allows each brand to present a variety of information. A project called “Museum” was also introduced in a new effort to sustain interest in the vehicles by providing historical information about each brand. Could it be that we all missed that?
I know its old but i havent seen that someone is discussing this.

good news, they've extended the demo time on the Japan PS Store
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced an extension of availability for the Japan-only demo of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Originally set to be cleared from the PlayStation Store on 11/11, the demo will now be available for download until 11/30.
While we're not sure of the reason for the change, we are sure that those who pick up the 40 gigabyte PS3 on or after the 11/11 release date will be happy to see a demo (of a demo) of the ultimate racing sim still available for download.

Online looks amazing, need more pics of AUDI R8!
The R8 scares the shit out of me. My dad took me for a spin in one. I was rather firmly held in the seat by the g-force when he put his foot down. Crazy car, I wish I knew how to drive outside of GT!

Well, I've been driving cars since 2000 (when I turned 18) and... well training is what you need.
I have a great advantage, as we have a small airfield 4kms from our house and at night, the field is empty much. And there are some official slalom races also.
The only reason I haven't tried getting a license is that I won't be able to afford a car. Well, I could easily get a used one, the insurance would be the problem.

Well, if you can drive in GT(with a proper wheel) I think the only think you'd have problems with driving real cars would be parking and general traffic rules.

Well you're not exactly exposed to any sort of g-force in turns or any other type of acceleration when you're sitting in a chair in the living room.
I would not say it's that similar. The simulation aspects are certainly there and stuff, but you can't emulate that sort of acceleration with even the Cell processor :P
To emulate that to a reasonable degree you'd need one of those moving chair things (you know those things from those short films you watch and your chair moves and you think you're actually falling or flying and stuff). Those take advantage of the fact that your vestibular apparatus in your ear cannot differentiate between acceleration and tilt and that your visual stimulus has a great effect on what you think you are experiencing.
ha! so you think you can drive in GT eh?
I can make the car go forward and around corners. So yes, I can drive in GT!!If you're gonna start questioning my ability, then go and beat my lap time in the other thread. ;)
