Just to head off any questions. Real-time in game asset, like the last job ad shot. Taken from a game level with a dark background, on purpose, because we wanted to focus attention on the character.

What is it now?
15-20 years? lol
They can't keep expecting us to care, this better be "OMG SO AWESOME MY BALLS EXPLODED WITH DUKE NUKEM!" kind of awesome.
That screenshot/ character model isn't even too great.

I still want to play this game.
The good'ole days of playing some Duke Nukem on my 64 are ever so memorable.

Just start showing some meaningful game stuff, seriously...
I almost feel disrepected by these guys. I mean they've been telling people for so long to 'just wait.' How much more should we wait?
Can they really not show anything more substantial than a freaking small screen? This isn't a debut for the game, it's just the 'debut' is so freaking delayed this is a special case.
Get on with it already, seriously. I understand my personal feelings can't affect the processes and decisions at some dev 1000 miles away from me or whatever, but it's just plain annoying to hear sparse news like this every 6 months. Show something already, more than half a head on a 200x200 pixel screen, jeez...
There's teasers, then there's stuff that's just wasting people's time.
What's even more pissing me off is that the pic isn't that impressive. For something that supposedly should be so secretive and so powerful and so important and confidential that it should be so awesome to the point that it blows our minds.... it's not that great looking. I can see 100 games this gen on consoles surpassing that quality.
Of course though, I still want to play the game, suffice that it is a good translation of Duke into a new form or adaptation in style to suit some new tech or gameplay style, or if it's old school run super fast and shoot super fast, no matter. Just bring a game that's good.

I am very patient.
I can wait for as long as it takes.
I wonder if I can find that old teaser trailer I had.
That was cool.

Yeah, the old trailers showed a game that was quite ahead of its time. They should be easy to find in Wikipedia and Youtube.

Wow Duke Nukem, I totally forgot about this game. I remember playing it on my computer back in the day... like waaay back.

Like about 11 or 12 years ago :nervous:
If it's ever released, I hope it includes a documentary about the last decade of development and how the game progressed since it was announced. It will be interesting to see why it took so long and how the hell did they manage to keep going without cancelling it.

Duke Nukem Now, Apocalypse Forever.
I shouldn't have been allowed to play Duke Nukem 3-D at such a tender age. ;)

edit: at least 10 duke nukem games have been released since 1997: duke nukem: time to kill, duke nukem: land of the babes, duke nukem: manhattan project, duke nukem 64, duke nukem:zero hour, duke nukem advance, one on game boy color and 3 duke nukem mobile games.
...according to wikipedia.

This game is going to suck in comparison to the wait. It's more fun to watch than it'll be to play...

It can never live up to the hype. Even if it's the greatest game of all time, it still won't warrant 11 years of hype.

Hype? What hype?
Nobody ever expects this game to be released. There is zero hype on this project.
^Agreed. The hyped died a long, long time ago.

If it's ever released, I'd say it'll sell less than half of what it could have sold 8 years ago.

I think that could very easily be true, but at the same time I think there will be a fair number of people who may buy it just to see what all the fuss and wait was about.
If Duke Nukem Forever had been released on time, it would just be another game.
But now it has become legend.

These are, by far, the LAZIEST bunch of game developers ever.

^Maybe they're just lost in what to do lol.
I say they are indecisive.
They should either give up or actually finish the fuckin thing. Its been a long, long time coming.

They must be really fed up with the overly long development time. If they finally achieve good results within two years from now, I think they'll release it no matter whether they're fully satisfied with it or not. Cancelling it would pretty much mean a wasted decade of life, so I think it will most likely end up being released.
TheGreenElf
05-28-2007, 09:59 AM
I thought of that too...how would the developers feel if it weren't released?
They should all be locked in a room with junk food and computers, then not let out untill they finish it :)

the original developers probably died and handed the project down to their children an their children's children.

If you think about it, it's kinda like saying to their children, "AVENGE ME!"
But if you think about it too much, it doesn't make sense.

"I can say that we have a big announcement coming in the next four weeks, and I'm not sure, but I believe we have another major announcement coming in the next four to six months... while I can't say exactly what these are, are they about Duke Nukem Forever? No." In other words: No DNF this year, and certainly not before the end of next year to say the least.

Most befitting game title ever.
To me it seems as though they kept seeing new possibilities and kept going at it then a new game engine would come along so they'd jump to that and the cycle continued.
If it comes out, there will be some hardcore gamers that buy it not for the purpose of wanting the game as it were but to see such a historic creation and own a piece of infamous gaming history.
Almost like owning an Atari cartridge of E.T. You don't have it to play, you have for the significance of what it represents.

It's pig cop. Can't wait to see if this game is ever even in playable goddamn form. Stupid 3D realms. You should have put this game out when people cared. Now everyone's gonna hate it for being in development for so long. Even if it is good.

Get out your mod tools and make your own Duke Nukem, you can't do a worse job than 3D Realms.
