News/rumours keep coming in...
New Psm has an interview with Sucker Punch and they talk about their future plans with Sony. I'ts a 1 page read, but some pretty interesting stuff in it. Microsoft tried to buy them up 2 years ago, I didn't know this. Good thing they didn't go.
Anyways, Look for Sly 4's unleashing at E-3 and a new Sly Cooper Psp game aswell. They're both set for release the same day and will have connectivity to one another. No pics for either, but ol' buddy said the Ps3 version will be a huge departure from the 1st trilogy... "The graphics have been majorly overhauled and the gameplay will be more varied and focused this time around. We're aiming for a fully interactive 3-d world, with no loads and seamless interaction between settings and characters."< whatever that means???
I, for one, am really hyped about this news... I love these games. I just hope they don't give it a darker edge and I'm afraid that's what they're talking about here. We'll see, I suppose.

Hail to the E3... Hail to the E3!!!
If there is anything that can now be called the second coming, I personally think it will be the Sony show at E3, no more, no less.

Time for me to go hibernate for two months until E3 comes around.

The wait really does suck. Once E3 is gone, it's gonna be the wait for TGS, le sigh.
I don't see how much different cell-shading will be this gen- if that is indeed what they'll be continuing with their stylization direction. even something like White Knight seems more mature than what Sly is.
in any case, we'll know soon enough. almost 40 days till E3. :)

sly raccoon was the most accomplished cell shaded graphics on the PS2... what is it going to look like on the PS3!!!
sly raccoon was the most accomplished cell shaded graphics on the PS2...
when it came out. as for 'ever' I would have to pic either DQ8 or Rogue Galaxy. in other words, the latest Level 5 masterpiece. they practically define cell-shading. :)

Sly Racoon was awesome, imo one of the best Jump 'n' Runs series in the last gen. Great controls and great graphics plus a cool level design.

I cant wait so see this gen cell shading graphics. I must look intense, no longer will the game have huge bold black lines. It should now be possible to have more detailed outlines for characters, the game could look more like the actual concept art.

that could be the name given to the game in his region. either that or he has joined the Short Term Memory club- that makes us three members strong!...I think. I don't know, I forgot...

Never mind at least we can triple quote each other on this board yeewaaww!
That's cool. Sly Racoon sounds so much cooler than Sly Cooper hahhahha.
not to me it doesn't. giving him the name of the animal he represents is redundant as it is painfully obvious what he is. giving hem the name of the famous person who stole million(s) and got away with it is much more interesting. this is like calling him a new aged Robin Hood, only much more exciting than that bush idiot (personal note).
which brings to mind another topic: why change title names for different regions? I can understand translation issues and cultural notes, but I feel it is done way too much and unnecessarily.

Yeah but here in Germany for example you dont think the whole time that "Racoon" means what he actually is.
In Germany its a "Waschbär" and Racoon sounds just cooler than that.

no, I don't mean to translate in in specific languages, but why not keep the original name? i.e why can't it be called 'Sly Cooper' in all of the Western world for example?

Dont know why i know what you mean.
I find it strange too but maybe "Racoon" sounds for the most europeans better than "Cooper".

Pesukarhu in Finnish, literally washbear = Wäschbär im Deutsch.

I am sad to inform you that both our minds have been polluted with 'original reaction' that both of us cannot give a 'real' opinion on the subject using the example at hand.
in other words, both of us have the first impression syndrome in effect concerning this particular title. we need to think of a new name and whether it would work regionally or if it is better to change it for some markets. I didn't say universally since some languages are different to a degree that a given name would sound too odd, hard to pronounce or even have an unwanted sounding to another meaning.
to make you feel better; this is not an easy task to decide at all as marketers bang their head over it on a title per title bases.

Yeah youre right and i know all that.
But there are many things where a name is different country specific and i must say i usually like the english titles/names more than the german ones (and i heard the german ones earlier).
By this example here i like Racoon more than Cooper.
But there are many examples where its different.
Resident Evil-Bio Hazard is just one.^^

I think that's included, but I think it's also more than that. Cooper is a recognizable name here, and fits for a title. They probably have reasoning to change the title, if there was no reason it's almost like why would they have a different name in the first place. Cooper is probably very meaningless in some places over there, but Racoon might have some sort of 'foreign wordiness' to it.
I think they did it specifically because the word Racoon might have more attractive properties to Germans or Europeans at the first glance than Cooper would. Cooper is almost too American a name too, and we all know how much everyone loves America :P
I think in the elsewhere in the world too, it's easier to sell things on cuter names than in the States. When I saw Sly Cooper with a bandana on his face it immediately reminded me of theivery. A racoon is a cute creature symbolic of stealing too I guess maybe universally, and maybe it's just the word would ring better?
I dunno, I'm obviously assuming a lot of stuff, but I could imagine that's why they changed it in the first place.

Wow, that's a good point actually. Maybe that could've influenced it, or maybe even had been the whole reason. But if it were the case, I wonder why it wouldn't affect the name in North America.

ah, great explanation. I wasn't thinking in a broad sense. indeed that 'Cooper' has an American relevance and it won't mean much in Europe. that is a very good reason to change the name to a more universal meaning such as the name of the actual animal represented.
I think, this may have been a problem here... maybe
Trademarks are minefields.
I don't think there would be a problem when using the same name for totally different products with no relevance to each other what so ever. there are a lot of movies, cars, perfumes, books, etc. that share the same name.
having said that, such legalities, legislations, etc. are the main reason why Europe get games so late than other regions- for better or for worse.
:duh:
One of those things i just cant keep in my head. Thx.^^
don't worry, your English is great. also, forums, and internet in general, is a great way to learn and practice a language better. forums are a great example of something called 'absent ;earning' or 'background learning' or something to that effect. it basically means you learn without noticing or intending to learn.
