View Full Version : Should we have a PSN section in this forum?

i was putting this out there for the mods to contemplate. PSN is going to grow over the years. Sony have themselves said that they see it as another platform, so shouldn't we reflect this here on E-mpire. it would be a cool place to meet and discuss all the latest news regarding the PSN and of course the games. we could have a high score section and stuff like that. well what do you all think?
we could poll this to see how many people would like it

Some boards have a PSN section, but I don't think there's a need for it at the moment, IMO.

We'll have to wait and see as the network evolves, no need to make one prematurely and just have it sit there you know?

i don't think it would Lali. think about it. there are already many games out and many to come. then there is HOME and Microtransactions, user created content and online auctions... by the end of this year it will be huge. why not get it up and running now?
Z's sackboy thread would look sweet in there

I check the PSN every day, take it from me, there really aren't that many games out, certainly not enough to lose track of... There's more game trailers up than there are games. You have my word that by the end of the year, when the content is at it's height, it'll be there. In the meantime, I could run off a list of downloadable games without taking a 2nd breath.

yes okay. i was thinking of other things as well though, not just games. Singstar, HOME, LBP to name what we actually know about.

Right, but even then, it's still small, and there isn't so much mileage in it discussion wise (since we already go crazy about it without its own section :)). Maybe Frosty and some other mods might disagree with me on this, which I wouldn't consider a big deal or an affront in any way. But, to me, seems like we should wait for this to reach critical mass.

that's like jumping on the band wagon though... lets be ahead of the curve :)

That's the thing. There is no curve. The PSN store right now is at a slight upward slant, like, very slight. And by fall I guess we just hop on at the radical vertical tilt upward. Do you see what I mean? I would much rather we made a section for these games for discussing them, when they're actually a reality, and not just preview articles. Yeah it's a wait, but it'll be much richer when these games are out, and we then create the necessary sub-thread or whatever, to talk about it. I think, the status quo serves perfectly well for discussing 'what we think we know'.

It's not as if you have a huge PS3 community here, why would one subdivide it further into sections? Just make a thread.

I like when it's all in one place. I think when all the PS3 info is in one section than it kind of allows us to more openly relate one PS3 thing to another. With two sections there's more of a mental divide and it kind of even separates the thinking and talking of related subjects between PSN topics and other PS3 topics.
And also ease of use, I like looking for all the PS3 info in one spot.
But maybe in the future if the PSN grows to a size and has so much material to cover that it warrants it's own forum, I don't see why not.

is there a doubt it will be, though?

Not a doubt, more uncertainty. I don't doubt the capacity of Home to deliver tons of content, but I am uncertain of how relevant the updates and information about it will be to warrant many new threads and it's own section, and it's also possible Home may be slow to pick up pace.
And maybe PSN will become so big that it drops down new info all the time, but we also may still want everything in one place. I guess we'll see about a new section. I'm sure a bit after Home is launched we'll have more of an idea of if everyone wants a new forum or not. By Home's launch I'm assuming a lot more crossover content and content in general will start coming in.
Also, Home could have a ton of content but maybe it won't be suitable for many new threads and such. Maybe a possibility in the future is that one general PSN Weekly/Regular Update thread can be made for all the updates that could include bug fixes and new trailers and new music or something, and then there'd be less threads to dedicate to PSN for like more major updates like major downloadable games on the lines of CaC and stuff.
Then there's also the issue of where do we put threads like SOCOM Confrontation, because it might get less attention in a PSN forum and many people might rather have it in the PS3 forum. Lots of stuff to think about I guess.
I agree that the less sections the better. just make a thread to whatever you want to talk about as it is still technically a PS3 subject.
if it was for me, I would combine all of Sony gaming threads into one. yes, PSP, PS2 and PS3 in one big thread. you'd be surprised how much traffic we will get by doing that.

I would be against it because this is the only board I tend to keep track on.
Splitting up PS3 and PSN would just make me miss out on a lot of games. :(

Seeing as how PSN is directly associated with Ps3 I dont see the need for it. In the future we could incorporate a sticky once some of the more feature sets and larger titles become available. Right now we are currently in the ramping up of the network.
At the current time I simply dont see a need for it, but if it does become burdening to this specific forum I dont see why we cant revisit the issue and re-evaluate Cliff's suggestion.
