Are you running windows XP SP2 (service pack 2)?

You can check by click on my computer, right clicking and selecting properties, then checking the general tab.

Regardless, if you have SP2, click on "run" in your start menu and type "CMD" and hit enter.

In the black command window, type in "Netsh winsock reset" , tell it yes if it asks, and restart.

Also check the following setting by entering your control panel, click on "Administrative tools", click on "Services" , and check for the entry "TCP/IP net BIOS helper". Its startup type should be "automatic" and its status should be "Started". If not, you can right click on it and select properties, then adjust these settings.

In addition it is very imporant to check with your antiviral and spyware software to make you you are not infected.

You may also try the following program if all still fails as this is an issue which stems from registry and network files corruption by degradation of error under use or malicious tampering by software.

Please answer the following:

Few things first, what antivirus/anti spyware software are you using on both computers?

Second, have you enabled file and printer sharing in the windows firewall under "exceptions"?

Third, have you gone to "My network places" and click on "setup a home or small office network", followed it through , and check the box in it to "share files and folders" before completing it. Run through this step on both computers again for good measure.

Also if you have an USB flash drive, Windows can put all your network setting on it for you when you 'set up a home or small office network'. Then you plug it into any other computer you want on the network and it does the work for you automatically.
