View Full Version : car drove through my mall last night

I work at an EB Games store in my local mall. It's like the third store in from one of the side entrances. I was working last night, it was about 6-6:30. I was behind the counter maybe 15 feet inside the store.

All of a sudden, I hear an almighty crash, look out the gate, and see people running like mad. Then this gold Honda cruises past my store, going I'd say about 35 to 40 mph. I'm not gonna lie, I was scared shitless. My first reaction was, "I want to stay the fuck away from the door, there are probably people lying hurt all over the place." Not the most noble thing to think maybe but I really didn't want to see heaps of dead or injured people all over, and it was pretty damn scary.

I ran over to my gate to shut it, while my customers ran out through the fire escape in the back. I made some quick phone calls, and after a minute, my buddy came around from the other GameStop in the mall. The car was out of the mall, so we went out to look around, and it was a fucking mess.

I'll try to describe the mall as best I can. The maniac drove in through glass doors, ripping the twisted frames out of the wall and ceiling. He then drove down my corridor, missing all of the little booths and kiosks in the center, until he got the the middle area of the mall. This is a large circular place with an elevator in the middle, and a few other small booths (he hit one of these). There were tire tracks swerving left when I came out to look, and a piece of his car lay on the floor.

He took the left and drove down the main mall hallway, which is far wider than the one through which he came in. He drove all the way down, a good quarter mile I'd say, then made another left at the last side-corridor, parallel to mine. Here he ran into one of those stacker machines and lost the front bumper of his car. It really is nothing short of a miracle that nobody was hurt more than a cut from the shattered glass.

He crashed out through the glass doors at the end of that hallway, drove around the parking lot, and came back for a second lap. At the end of the parking lot, as he approached the mall again, the car died (it looked an absolute wreck), and he got out. He was apparantly very calm and cooperative when and off-duty officer apprehended him. The man responsible will be 20 years old in August.

Today I found out that he is also responsible for several other crimes in the area. Just last week he robbed a woman right outside the mall at gunpoint, and security has been passing around fliers and whatnot. He did the same to a person near a village hall not far from the mall about a year ago. Less than a month ago he lit a car on fire at a different mall, thinking it belonged to his ex's new boyfriend. He apparantly confessed to all of these crimes after being taken in.

I have two pictures of the mall doors on my phone...if I ever figure out how to I'll try to post them here. I heard he caused about $60,000 worth of damage, but all things considered it could have been far worse.

I don't know how to end this thread, so:

:pinky: :pinky: :pinky:

Some crazy bum that guy was. Have the police given any motive? Thank God no one was seriously hurt/killed.

I have no idea what his punishment is yet. I'd imagine the trial won't even begin for a while, but I'm sure he'll be held in jail until then. As far as motive, I've heard rumors that his ex-girlfriend works in the mall. Can't confirm it, but other than that I'd say he's just plain fucked in the head.

I have always thought it would be cool to drive through a mall, but would be better to do it on a motorcycle.

I'll give it a shot.

EDIT: Ok here's the first shot (if this works). You can just make out the red and white sign of my store on the right, third store in.

The second is the same door but from a different angle. Those were the only two I got, my phone's camera pretty much sucks. I'll post the second in a little bit.

EDIT...again: Here's the second picture:

Well when he passed my store he looked to be going around 35-40 mph. I think he must've been going faster to break through those doors though. I'm not sure, I didn't really see it happen.

I blame it on video games. :shifty:

Seriously though, it's sad how retarded some people can be.

Wow! That's insane! You definitely have an interesting story to tell at dinner parties. :-p

Also Gollum, in your Photobucket settings there is an email you can send your pics to from your phone and it will put them straight on your photobucket. Pretty nifty, I say.

Holy crap! That's unbelievable!

You have two game stores at your mall?!

Cofey

lol yeah, one used to be a Babbage's, mine an EB Games. There was also a Funco Land right across the street. Then GameStop took over the world. We're now all GS. I still refer to mine as EB though, because I hate GS oh so much.

Every single mall I've ever been to has atleast two game stores. Okay, well except for the old mall here.

Do you have a link to a local news website? I'm sure it had to make some nightly broadcast.

You know, this is a story you'll be telling your friends about.

Because this story sounds like a page out of a movie.

By the way, if your cell phone can e-mail images to an account, do it. Then download the image from your computer using that e-mail address. That's what I did when I got my old cell phone.

Apparently using cars to destroy things is getting popular lately... maybe it's a fad....

Recently in Toronto I think, a father, like 40+ years old, was enraged over the relationship between his teenage (17ish? pretty sure) daughter with some slightly older guy and the father tried to run them over while they were sitting outside on some small table I guess. Pretty surreal incident, he was driving a minivan.

No one died though, so that was good. Father obviously was charged and arrested and whatever. Also, even more bizarrely (sp?), he was dancing and laughing at the scene of the crime in front of the police officers who made it there.

None of the links I found were very good. The first is from my local newspaper, the second has a picture of the door he exited from (the pics I posted show where he entered).

Keep in mind though, both articles are wrong on a couple of points. I'm pretty good friends with a few of the security guards (one of my old key holders now works mall security). The guy didn't give any "speech" to the crowd but was absolutely quiet, and the man that apprehended him was an off-duty officer and not just a "passerby."

Another article; this one has his picture:

Hahahahaha, listen to this: in the actual paper, the above article has a picture of the front of my store, with all of our display boxes outside knocked over on the floor. They blamed the speeding car, but I actually knocked that stuff down in my hurry to close the gate!

May not be so funny to you guys, but I couldn't stop laughing when I read that caption.

I made distinct lulz on the inside. Bear in mind that this is the small hours.
