A brutal battle of brands is set to break out in the flat screen TV market. We have already seen Panasonic and Samsung roll out multi million dollar local advertising campaigns during the past week. Now Sony is stepping up to the table with a $125 million dollar global advertising campaign for their new range of Bravia LCD TVs.
On top of that Sony are set to role out a new multi million dollar marketing campaign for their new range of Bravia LCD TVs developed by their new advertising agency Saatchi and Saatchi.

Randy Waynick, Sony home products division senior VP, said Sony's marketing efforts will tie into the "Sony United" directive in more aggressive ways. For example, he said Sony will seek to communicate how advanced video technologies developed for its commercial broadcast video division have transitioned into its consumer-level HD camcorders and how experts from Sony Pictures are lending their expertise to the picture quality settings on new Sony TVs.

"From the lens to the living room, Sony has been leading the HDTV transition from its very inception, including the development of high-resolution HD content that will engage consumers as never before," Waynick said.

The efforts will dovetail with Sony's consumer education efforts on the benefits of "Full HD" last year, which he said reached over 180 million consumers. This year, Waynick said, Full HD 1080 will not be Sony's premier advertising slogan.

"At Sony it represents a higher-definition experience, whether it's the ability to capture images from one of our latest Cybershot cameras, or from our HD camcorders, and then conveniently be able to edit and customize content on a high-capacity HD notebook," Waynick said.

Waynick said the effort will employ HDTV test-drive promotions which will encourage consumers to visit retail stores to experience the latest Bravia products, and will bring a significant expansion to Sony's online outreach.

"You'll see partnerships between Sony and our retailers to tell the HD story even stronger than last year," Waynick said. "What we learned last year is that people are coming into the HD environment in stores for TV, and what we really want to leverage this year is some attachment to audio. It's not as high as it should be, no retailer is satisfied with it, and we are going to do more about that."

Marketing efforts will be used to advertise the benefits of Sony Internet Video Link system, which, he said, will bring the Internet and TV together in an entirely new way.

"That's the kind of story that I think is going to start to resonate with people," Waynick said. "There is going to be so much business done in HDTV this year that we think there are going to be natural connections made between all the categories that support HD. We've been leading to this for the past several years, and now it is all starting to come to fruition."

One of those connections will be made in Blu-ray Disc products.

Christopher Fawcett, Sony home video product management VP, cited Nielsen sales data showing Blu-ray Disc currently represents 70 percent of HD video disc sales, and Sony's disc production unit has produced more than 2.5 million 50GB-capacity discs since last year.http://www.smarthouse.com.au/TVs_And_Large_Display/Industry/P5M5N3V8

It had better be better than their old Bravia ads. Those 'first TV for men and women' ads were lame as hell. Let's also hope these aren't the same people that make their weird PS3 ads or we'll see commercials of people sitting on the toilet while watching a 60" Bravia in their bathroom.

I heard over half the profits from the PS2 went into launching the BRAVIA campaign and I think the ads with colourful balls and exploding paint were excellent.

I feel a bit weird saying this but:
I'm actually looking forward to their next advert.

It definitely sound ambitious, Sony is really working hard to push this HD era.
Other HD-TV sellers will be grateful.
I like how they are using synergy to connect all their HD products together.
They really do want this to be a 'Sony World'.

The Bouncing balls advert was one of the greatest I've seen, and it introduced me to Jose Gonzalez. :)

Agreed, the bouncing ball advert was original and well composed, as was that exploding paint ad, must have costed millions for that scene alone.

I like watching some of these ads if they are clever and not just "BUY NOW!!!" sort of things. I will be looking forward to this one.

damn, Bravia is the best TV out there. it has typical Sony kickass made into it; design, style, features...and now price!
damn, if I only had HD media access other than my PS3 games I would have had one by now...

that was only one of them (I haven't seen it) but what about the ones before that? don't right off Sony's excellent, award-winning, advertisements just because you didn't like one of them or their PS3 specific ones were done by mashed aliens.

i kinda liked those strange ps3 ads, they got you thinking and made you keep watching or research a little to find out what the hell it was about, abstract but i liked them.

they were very entertaining, like shorts. but they did nothing for PS3, imo.

their online adds were excellent, on the other hand.

I don't watch TV, Z. I caught their 'TV for men and women' ads while on vacation once and was slack jawed at how stupid that sounded. Then the PS3 ads can't be missed because they get posted everywhere like everything else PS3 related. I said nothing about their past Bravia ads, just that one and the PS3 ads of which sucked. Point being of those I saw I notated and requested they be of better quality if they plan to spend $125 million on them.

The only sucky PS3 ad I've seen was the crying baby. The rest are actually quite good.

I hope it's better than their "The world's first Television for men and women" campaign.

Fuck man, can you see more than 1 foot of your TV without having to turn your head?

It'd take you 3 seconds just to check your lap time.

You literally need to back that ass up.

I realize the campaign is more than just TV ads, but when I saw this thread for some reason the first thing I thought of was the irony of advertising a TV on TV. Like selling ice to eskimos.

I pondered that one years ago. The supposedly superior picture somehow being visualized on my supposedly inferior TV. "At least show some damn comparisons or something," I'd always think to myself.

That's a PS3 ad here. There have been lots f other weird ones to but that ones memorable in a sort of way.

To me their best PS3 ad had Lance Henriksen doing a voice over.

i mainly like their ones that they have on the beyond3d site, but they are far to long and techy for tv.

i have a hard time believing that's a real PS3 ad, considering it's branded with some other website. also, aren't TV ads usually in multiples of 30 seconds?

the ones on the beyond 3d site were not just for ps3, they were for their new range of digital lounge room electronics, tv's stereo's ps3 etc.

the site was ran by sony.

You've never heard of Sony's This Is Living ad campaign?
