View Full Version : No law for maximum temperature in workplace? :(

I didn't even know that this was true, until I Googled it about five minutes ago. I work in the stockroom in a sports shop, it's gets very warm up there. It gets very warm on the shop floor. People are constantly walking around fanning themselves, Customers are complaining that they're too hot. Try fucking working in it! It was 28C (82.4F) today.

I'm a serious pussy when it comes to heat mixed with heavy work. I get cranky, lethargic and suffer from pretty bad headaches when I'm really dehydrated. It's getting fucking ridiculous as I've mentioned it several times to my Manager but apparently we're waiting on someone "signing the cheque" to fix the Air conditioner.

So, apparently there's no law in the UK that specifies when the Temperature is too high and people should take more breaks, rotate etc. BOLLOCKS! I'm sick of coming home with headaches!

Turn the ac down and if the manager says anything say you don't know anything about it.

Usually you'd think the owners not wanting to encourage customers to leave with the heat would be enough, but I guess not.

^I failed to mention it's ran by retards, I just assumed that you'd figure that out. Oh, and the awesome sunburn that I received yesterday did not help at all. I didn't think I was going to make it. I just... Closed my eyes and thought of Khaos.

loll, u said "bollocks" like in Harry Potter.

Yea heat sucks. School is pretty bad sometimes. We have rancid mold that just bakes in the heat during the summer, giving off a really bad smell mixed in with the heat. Today I heard we got rats too.

^There was a weird stench coming from the Tearoom today. Icky.

Also, when it's really hot, our Adidas Forest Hills give off a totally nasty fishy smell. Reminds me of Onbakes Mom EVERYTIME I walk past them.

Only 82.4? You'd hate the US. I remember working 3rd shift in a warehouse and it was still over 100 at night.

Get headache cold packs. Those will help you greatly until they fix the A/C.

Ahahaha. :thumbl:

I've never had a problem with that at a job. I've always worked small govt jobs or retail, so.. Wonder if America lacks a similar law?

The keyword is "Pussy" Viper.

It's just something else to Bitch about to be honest. Can't stand the place. To be fair though, if I'm walking out of work feeling sick and sweating like Sweaty McSweaterson then somethings up. Also, everyone else complains but never actually says anything to management. I hate spinless Bastards more than the Hot temperatures actually!

BOLLOCKS!

LOL!

Ask if you got mold. My friend has mold allergies, and I don't think you're supposed to be getting headaches even at that temperature.

Try those cold packs then. You cool the head, the rest of the body feels much better.

It especially sucked tonight because I didn't have any Water with me. Water is made of win really. I shall take your advice though, but I'm just hoping they'll get the dam AC fixed.

Take some ice, put it in a plastic bag. Wrap it in towel, and tie the towel around your neck so the ice cools the back of your neck. BE SURE to do this BEFORE you get hot, otherwise you will cool yourself too quickly and may have serious health related consequences. The ice cools blood as it flows through arteries in your neck, which flows to the rest of the body cooling it down as well. If it gets too cold on your neck, put a bit more padding between the bag and your neck. I used to do this when I landscaped in 110 degree heat.

Yeah, I had to get something out of my attic last week. I've never experienced so much heat. Felt like an oven, truly.

Our house doesn't have A/C, and I live in CA. Last summer it was so hot that it fired my motherboard.

So a few months ago, I just went to Lowes and bought one for my own room for $120. It only costs $40 to run a year.

Just think of how bad the people who make your shoes have it.

I'm lucky I work in a book factory and the temperature has to be regulated due to the hundreds of stacks of paper we have sitting around that would start to curl up and shit if it gets to hot. I still work up a bit of a sweat when I'm hauling all the stacks of paper around but the temperature always seems like its in the 70s. Which is a lot better then some other factories my friends have worked in which have no air conditioning and the temperature gets well into the 100s during the summer.

Try working 40 hours a week, doing stockroom errands such as carrying merchandise from one destination to another, with 102 degrees temperature.

When we started getting new fixtures for the stockroom, its worse, because I had to carry boxes of heavy stuff up TWO floors. On the ladder. My boss made me work until 8pm when I arrived there at 8am/7am one day, working all day helping him put the merchandise into their new destinations. Needless to say, by the end of the day, I was extremely tired.

Get used to it.

Just think of how bad the people who make your shoes have it.

Why are you ALWAYS bringing stuff like that up? You brought the same thing up when I mentioned how good my iPod + Nike was. Just STFU! We all know that there's problems around the world, getting on your soapbox in forums and derailing threads isn't the way to go about it.

Your welcome, and no i didn't make a mistake i have just recently changed my opinion on the matter since the others wouldn't knock money off my england shirt...

But anyway to the heat matter, I dont mind the heat as long as it's not too hot but i worked in the chilled section 99% of the time and the other 1% of the time im up in the office where since the managers work there is amazing AC...so i cant really complain. Its funny though in the summer customers are like "Ah id love to work down here it's so cool" come winter there like "Hurry up son, it's fuckin freezing".....cant win i tell you!

Do they give you guys water?

Because they should.

Although, for two summers I was working as a dishwasher, and then a line cook. Typically, the kitchen would be at about 110 or so.

I work second shift in a warehouse, so I know how it feels. It gets to about 110-120 everyday.
