I recommend Matthew Reilly. He's Australian so I dont know if his books are all over the place in America like they are here. But go find them, they are worth it.
In fact, come to think of it... I was reading in the back of one of his books and he was talking about why he writes. It went something like: "All of the action books I read have action, then a break, then more action, the another break. I havnt read one book with action the whole way through."
His books are friggen sweet. I read about 90% of his latest book "Seven Ancient Wonders" in a couple of days, which is a hell of alot for me since I never ever read.
Who else has read any of his books?
