According to 1UP, Wipeout HD is coming this year. Although it's not the full fledged next Wipeout, it should hopefully be slick none the less.
During the last few weeks, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has been showcasing Wipeout Pulse the European gaming press at it's PlayStation-branded loft in London. While the PSP sequel was the focus of the event, questions about Wipeout PlayStation 3 were inevitable -- Sony's Liverpool studio director Clemens Wangerin confirmed the game in a recent issue of Develop magazine -- so we asked Game Director Tony Buckley for more details.
Understandably, Buckley wasn't too forthcoming, but confirmed the Liverpool based team wants to quickly release an iteration in the form of Wipeout HD, which should be officially announced in August or even earlier at E3. 1UP learned Wipeout HD is simply the first step, with a "major" Wipeout release penciled in for sometime in 2008. Wipeout HD will feature a online multiplayer mode and, while unconfirmed, likely HD-enabled tracks from Wipeout Pulse, as well.
Wipeout HD should arrive on the PlayStation Network before the end of the year.
Good stuff!

What? Way to twist what the game director actually said:
http://forums.e-mpire.com/showthread.php?t=74780
WipEout HD is not confirmed at all. The interviewer suggested the possibility and he agreed that it would be nice, and that's all. He then mentioned the PS3 title and it was then when he said that there would be an announcement in August. Way to go with the old and distorted news, 1crap.

^VG, 1up contacted Buckley themselves. However, we didn't get his own words this time..

Funny that they'll reveal the news that weren't suggested to be true at all in the Kikizo interview, yet they are not quoting him to make it officially believable. Sorry, I don't buy that, too suspicious.

More bull crap for you (http://www.meristation.com/v3/des_noticia.php?id=cw4680d4832df7f&pic=GEN):
Sony plans to release a high definition version of their latest WipEout title according to a report and the statements from the game producer, Tony Buckley, to the American magazine 1up. WipEout Pulse, which will make an appearance in September on PlayStation Portable, will become available on the PS store, the PS3 download service, before the current calendar year ends. WipEout HD, as the remake will be called like, will include online gameplay support and will serve a prologue purpose for the next generation WipEout title expected for next year. It is expected that the official announcement will be made soon. Can you spot all the inaccuracies?
It's going to be fun to debunk all this stuff. What's not going to be fun is to see some people going "OMG Sony liez again about Wipeout".

Wow how do you fuck that up?
a title change is in order...or a complete perishing of the whole thread.

Um, I don't understand how anyone fucked anything up. The article that VG quoted said that there will be a prologue version coming out this year, with a full version next. That's exactly what 1UP says.

Are you sure you read it correctly? Because the article I quoted just twisted the facts even further. They go on to confirm that it's WipEout Pulse what's going to get an HD treatment for PS3. Although to be honest, the article is very poorly written and quite ambiguous, and the information is so different from what Buckley actually said in the Kikizo interview that I've already ignored it.
Anyway, to end this argument:
Kikizo: So do you think that WipEout - maybe in HD! - would prove popular as a download on PS Network?
Buckley: I think WipEout in HD would be stonking! And I think, you know, the arcade nature of WipEout, make it's so pick up and playable, so I think it would be brilliant... It's obvious we're doing a WipEout for the PS3 but... well, there will be an announcement in August (http://games.kikizo.com/features/wipeout_iv_p1.asp)This is the only quote we have from the man himself talking about how nice a WipEout HD title would be (which doesn't confirm at all that they're developing it) and that it's no secret a WipEout game for PS3 is in the works. However, I just don't see how 1crap can claim Buckley actually confirmed WipEout HD when according to themselves they asked him about it, yet they don't provide a quote which would at least make it believable a priori. You also have to wonder how exactly they asked him when 1crap is American and Buckley talked about Pulse on an European press conference. In case you haven't figured out yet, I'm suggesting 1crap is making things up and never interviewed or even phoned Buckley recently.
Hey, I'd love to be proven wrong, but I just don't trust 1crap.

^have to agree.
unfortunately i think the internet was the end of video game journalism.
Now it's as objective and well researched as penis enlargement pill lab tests. Not to mention as plentiful. Everyone's a journalist now, and all you need to become one is an internet connection and a good imagination...

For what it's worth:
Sony quiet on WipEout HD (News) (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=78540)
by Tom Bramwell

Sony UK has declined to comment on reports that the company is preparing a "WipEout HD" title as a downloadable PlayStation Network product.
1UP WipEout Pulse game director Tony Buckley reportedly told 1UP that the internal Liverpool studio handling WipEout titles wants to release the PSN version quickly, and that we may see an announcement in August or even at E3 next month.
WipEout HD would feature online multiplayer, 1UP added, and would be an addition to the WipEout release schedule rather than a replacement for the full WipEout game that Sony Liverpool is known to be developing, which is supposedly due out next year.
A spokesperson for Sony UK said: "I can't confirm anything about WipEout on the PS3 at this time."
Earlier this month we spoke to WipEout designer Clark Davies about WipEout Pulse, the one Sony Liverpool WipEout game that is confirmed for this year, and he told us it was "too soon" to discuss plans on PS3.
But hey, we know something's going on, and WipEout HD sounds like a good bet given Sony's obvious fondness for high-definition PlayStation Network releases. Expect more in the coming weeks. What? Sony won't confirm what Buckley supposedly confirmed 1crap in unclear and totally unproven circumstances? ;)

No, the article you posted said that the Wipeout Pulse, the PSP title, would be available on the PS store, and so would a separate Wipeout HD, which serves as a prologue to the one that will come out next year.
It says it pretty clearly in plain English, just like the 1UP article. Not very twisted at all.

It says it pretty clearly in plain English, just like the 1UP article. Not very twisted at all. What? Man, did you read both articles again? The one I quoted mentions 1crap as their source. The major but not only inaccuracy is that they believe 1crap said Pulse will be made available on "the PS3 download service", when 1crap didn't even say that. How can saying something totally different not be twisting or even making things up?
The rest of the information is poorly compiled and documented, so there's little point in discussing anything else.
Seriously, this doesn't deserve any more attention. 1crap are the only ones in the whole Internet reporting that Buckley confirmed something when they can't even quote his own words and Sony is not confirming that there's any truth to WipEout HD. Kikizo were the first ones to suggest a WipEout HD and Buckley simply said it would be nice, but there's a long way between that and saying that Buckley confirmed such thing with no proof. If you still think all these incoherences aren't fishy, fine, but I won't waste my time anymore with this.
