Rock legends Led Zeppelin will reportedly reunite for a one-off memorial concert in honour of their late record boss before embarking on a world tour.

The Whole Lotta Love hitmakers have only performed a handful of concerts, including Live Aid in 1985, since their split in 1980 following the death of drummer John Bonham.

But singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones will re-group alongside Bonham's son Jason for a special concert in memory of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun in London.

A source says, "Page, Plant and Jones spoke and agreed to do the memorial concert. They are waiting for a definite date.

"And no-one can quite believe it, but during discussions about the concert they all gave the green light to a tour if it all does well and they don't all fall out.

"It has been hoped-for and denied for years. But this is the closest they have ever come to a reunion tour. The feeling is that this is going to happen next year."

Ertegun died in December after seven weeks in a coma following a fall at a Rolling Stones concert.

Can Plant even sing anymore?

Can Plant even sing anymore?

Yeah, he actually has a band if I'm not mistaken, Robert Plant & The Strange Sensations or something like that.

You guys are overreacting a bit, aren't you? It hasn't been that long since Page and Plant. Are you that excited about John Paul Jones?

Until they dig up Bonham and bring him back to life, I can't get that excited about a Zep reunion. That's why the Pink Floyd reunion was THE reunion.

I saw Plant open for The Who back in '02, and he just didn't seem to have it anymore. He's about 60 now, and I'd imagine that some of those high notes are now out of reach.

But I could be wrong, so whatever. What I do know is that if they do decide to tour, tickets are going to cost an arm and a leg.

Yeah, I saw page and plant like a decade ago.

It would still be sick to have them tour again.

John Paul Jones adds a hell of a lot more to Zeppelin than you think. If you don't understand the excitement, you don't understand the point of Zeppelin's sick chemistry. Yeah, Bonham won't be there, but this is the closest we have, which is why it's more exciting than Page & Plant.

Mr. Jones, is that you?

I don't have anything against John Paul Jones, but I know I'm not making a crazy off-based statement to call him a distant fourth in the attraction of Zep.

I just saw this on ultimate-guitar:

For several days, a skepticism-inducing rumor has been making its way around the Internet, claiming that Led Zeppelin will reunite for a show memorializing late Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun, then head out on a tour.

Robert Plant himself has now reportedly denied these claims, according to RollingStone.com, and even made a joke about the purported reunion: "If there was one, then there wouldn’t be enough doctors to support it!"

If the reunion happened, it would mark the third time that the '70s legends have played since disbanding. The band has only performed a handful of concerts, since their split in 1980 following the death of drummer John Bonham.

Ahmet Ertegun died in December after seven weeks in a coma following a fall at a Rolling Stones concert. The likes of Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Stevie Nicks, and Crosby, Stills & Nash all played his New York memorial in April of this year.

Sonofabitch.

Being considered a lesser member of Led Zeppelin is still better than being the lead in a band no one will ever remember.

I hope that sounded as good as it did when I thought it up...

He's similar to John Entwistle. He's not one of the attractions, because he's quiet, and never on the main stage. Fact is, though, that also like Entwistle, he added a hell of a lot to Zeppelin. Listen to "Ramble On" or "The Lemon Song". Zeppelin's appeal is not only Robert Plant or Jimmy Page, or not even John Bonham (as much as I really love them all). The appeal is their sexy, raw chemistry on stage and in the studio when they make music. I'd rather get 75% of that than 50.

Now I understand many people, especially back in the day, wouldn't find JPJ to be a reason to see the show. Fact is though, if you understand music at all, you'd know that it's not the addition of JPJ, but the appeal of the music that draws people in. That is why we are/were excited about this.

Led Zeppelin is about the music, man. Not the faces. If it were, they'd be Fall Out Boy.

Also. I'm in Seattle, but choose to make random appearances in this thread with the little internetz they have.

Can Plant even sing anymore?

More importantly, can BONZO even play anymore? The answer to that is a definite no, so Zeppelin shouldn't reunite :-p

I'm not really a Zeppelin fan anymore, but I did catch Page with the Black Crowes back in 2000 (maybe it was 2001...), which was an awesome show, especially when I saw The Who on tour the day before.

Although I guess they could do a reuniting similar to The Who's (before Entwistle died), and have a sit-in drummer... it just wouldn't be the same. Contrary to popular belief, the song does not remain the same.

That's alright...although I don't care for them very much (sick of hearing them, I want to break a speaker everytime I hear a song. Especially Stairway). But it's cool for the sake of a "Legendary Band".

Or when you see those fucking douchebag kids with the "Led Zeppelin US Tour 1977" shirts and the Swan Song logo that they got from Hot Topic. They're too busy trying to look like they know something to realize Zeppelin sucked complete ass by that point! Watch "The Song Remains the Same" and take all the parts you didn't like, then spread that across the whole show and that's the state of Zeppelin by that point. '69 - '71 was as good as it got.
