I agree lol, I tend to play Tekken 5 : DR with rumbles...but not anymore, the only fighting game i m playing with is naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, the demo.

So the PS3 version's matching service was put online today...

And I have to say it was so much better than Burst Limit. I didn't really play anybody who had a bad connection to me, but so far, my online experience has been really good. This might be a little out there but I'd say it is comparable to GGPO (if people know what I am talking about).

Hearing about how laggy Burst Limit's online was put me off from plunging my credit card deeper down in debt. I have not a care for rank in SC games, so I might get it and go buckwild online with Vader only, using only the force choke move.

Anyways, I'd say it is better than SCII and III but I'm not sure how I would place it against SCI. I still need to play it more to see if I really find it better than SCI or not.

Anyways, I played an okay Astharoth player today. He seems pretty good. He has a couple of ground grabs. I think Rock is better than him though. Also, anybody who has the game, doesn't rock look a hell of a lot like Triple H?

Despite the aforementioned concerns, Soulcalibur IV is a lot of fun and I highly recommend it, especially -- as I said before -- to fans of the series. The game runs well, looks beautiful, sports great music and obviously has enjoyable combat. The PS3 and 360 versions are just about identical (barring the differing guest characters), though I felt that the optional install on the PS3 made things feel even quicker and more polished. In the end, both are worthy members of a long- standing series and you won't be disappointed with the purchase

I would be but I am usually asleep by then and currently remodeling my bathroom. Though I usually will be playing around 3-5 pm (EST).

The game plays slower than previous SCs. Characters have more "weight" to them but dont feel as responsive or refined. The addition of gameplay elements such as armor and finishing techniques do add a good bit to the depth of the game and are solid additions. This makes a good bit of difference in the gameplay of the title. Though all in all much of the move sets and fighters have retained their "feel". The graphics arent anything to write home about, kind of the VF5 ordeal with great character models and some uninspired levels (though some levels are rather well done). Vader is a cumbersome addition and I personally dont have much use for him (primarily a Mits., Taki, and Seigfried player), his combos dont seem to flow well together and he is rather hampered offensively with his move set, though of course I havent had much time to dedicate to him. Kilik has quickly become the online character of choice primarily for his simple move sets and range (he is cheap in this version, more so than in the others). Online play is very well done via a mix of VF5 and DOA style lobbies (single match for ranked, multiple lobbies for player matches).


A good fighter but Im still waiting on SF4.

Haha, Kilik is far from cheap... A good Nighmare/Sigfried player is way harder to beat then a good Kilik player in my experience so far. And Vader has a deadly wakeup game where he can hit you with either a high or low unblockable and his normal G+A throw while having your back to the edge of a stage is a instant ring out lol.

Apprentience is great though, he is a lot faster than Vader and has some nice juggle options.

The reliance on the force bar cripples them though.

Im not overly sure but I get the microphone icon and sound icon when I enable sound in matches. While I havent talked to anyone yet, that is to be expected because many people dont talk on fighting games specifically.

I have it. Has anyone managed to do one of the finishers (whatever they call them), I can't get them to work, I think I most be doing something wrong...

You can only do them after the opponent has blocked enough attacks to be put in a state of soul crush. I haven't even gotten any opponent in a state of soul crush to even have tried it. I always lose or beat my opponent before soul crush even happens.

I'm glad that they are so rare though. Having an instant kill move that can be landed frequently is not good for any fighting game.

Yeah I agree with that last part, in the Tower of the Lost souls single player mode there are a few enemies with really high defense I get them in soul crush rather frequently, and my soul meter pulsing blue (which I think is also required).

Yeah, I managed to do it two round in a row with Lizard Man (Kind of funny since I never use him...), you have to get them soul crushed and have yours pulsing blue then almost immediately when you break a piece of there armor hit it, so you have to kind of guess, at least I think that's how it goes...

I play random too but prefer certain characters. Honestly I simply build a fighting style that I stick to and character specific actions play second to my overall style.

I play only a few characters at a time because you get a better feel for the game mechanics and it is easier to learn the game better when just mastering one character. That, and I ususally pick a play style I like (usually rush down characters) and I run with it. If you try and apply stuff from one character to another it won't work (in a good fighting game anyways). Each character has there own playstyle and strenghts and weaknesses. Example would be with Mitsurugi. His playstyle is very slanted towards having a good mixup game on wakeup. So you should be aiming to knock down your opponent and going either for a low, a high, or a throw. Since he has various options for knocking you down, and some very fast moves to pressure on wakeup, that is a good strategy for Mitsurugi to use. This strategy is not as good for a character like Maxi, so you'd be better of finding a different way to play him.

Anyways, seeing as nobody else added there name, I guess the tourney isn't gonna happen?

Questions for ya'll talking about ya'll had long matches with each other.

1. Ya'll actually had luck with the invite a friend option? It has NEVER worked for me, regardless who I've tried to play online with. It's bunk!

2. Is there anyway to do friend invites during rank matches? I've only seen the friend invite option come up with non-rank matches, to which never work anyway.

3. When ya'll played against each other, would the room you play in stay open after a single match has ended? Sadly, it closes every single time during rank matches, which is beyond stupid! How could Namco make these sorts of online retard complications when they got it right for the most part in Tekken.

1. I have done it many times. You have to remember the stupidness of the PS3 online in the way that you can't directly join from the XMB like you can from the dashboard. What you have to do is get a friend request and open it in the "friend matches" option under the PSN tab. You have to make sure to not open it in the XMB though because then the game doesn't recognize the invite.

2. To stop boosting (there was so much of this in T5:DR), I guess they kept RM's randomized and made sure you couldn't invite friends.

3. This happens only in ranked to prevent boosting from occuring.

Seriously though, why are you playing ranked when online rankings are a joke anyways? Also, the netcode itself is lightyears better than T5 imo. I have only had 2 or 3 matches that were bad out of the 100 or so I have played online. T5 was a whole lot worst than this.

Well to be fair, I have like 20 ranked matches and most of them have been against level 30+ people and they either lose really badly, or quit after I win the first round.

Player matches are more fun.

1. I have done it many times. You have to remember the stupidness of the PS3 online in the way that you can't directly join from the XMB like you can from the dashboard. What you have to do is get a friend request and open it in the "friend matches" option under the PSN tab. You have to make sure to not open it in the XMB though because then the game doesn't recognize the invite.

2. To stop boosting (there was so much of this in T5:DR), I guess they kept RM's randomized and made sure you couldn't invite friends.

3. This happens only in ranked to prevent boosting from occuring.

Seriously though, why are you playing ranked when online rankings are a joke anyways? Also, the netcode itself is lightyears better than T5 imo. I have only had 2 or 3 matches that were bad out of the 100 or so I have played online. T5 was a whole lot worst than this.

1. I believe I did this if you're talking about within the game. Everytime that I did it, it says that the connection failed. Ask Lali. We tried a few times and just gave up. But ya'll had success playing against each other?

As for your ? the reason I play ranked matches, well, I care and don't care about ranking. Like, I'm serious enough of a player that it matters a bit to me, but it's not the end all, be all of playing. Also, playing ranking matches helps me to find other players that are a good challenge, as most of my buddy list, despite having over 50 of them, hardly any of them play fighters or are even good at them if they do. Not to mention the time differences of when I play and when they play. If I only played my buddies in fighting games online, I'd only play fighters like 1nce a month, which isn't enough for me as they're one of the rare few games that I'll even play competitively online cuz I don't really care for shooters, which seems to be the only other games people want to play online.

Yeah, you'd think they'd keep the win/loss records and player levels a bit more comparable, at least within the 10 level range for match-making instead of being soo randomized.
