Funny how it reminds SC3 :)
According to those magazine images more polys/character, few nice new effects and that's it. The same goes also for Tekken 6 though. Not that it matters if the gameplay is still there.
Soul Caliburs are my faves of the fighter genre.

I don't know how what they are gonna do with Tira.
Her whole fighting style in SC3 seemed like you had to be great at air juggling to make her useful.
At least that's how I saw it.

The lighting seems a little bit old, I don't really like the white ines surrounding the characters, maybe it's because of the bad quality of the scans. But graphically I' m not totally that impressed, But hope to see more vids at/ or before E3 !
Hope they won't rush the game, but it's multi lol so everyone will get the same.

Oversexulatization needs to be toned down man. This is just hilarious trying to attract DOA crowd into soul caliber. Graphical prowess shouldn't mean a way into increased size of you know what.
PS: BTW, that duck next to seigfried's character is hilarity at best. I mean WTF is that suppose to be doin there? LOL

Lol it's not a duck but a " dodo" a species that has disappeared from Earth long time ago.
http://www.davidlnelson.md/Cazadero/CazImages/Dodo_bird.jpg
The Dodo (Raphus cucullatus) was a flightless bird that lived on the islands of Mauritius. Related to pigeons and doves, it stood about a metre tall (three feet), lived on fruit and nested on the ground.
The dodo has been extinct since the mid-to-late 17th century. It is commonly used as the archetype of an extinct species because its extinction occurred during recorded human history, and was directly attributable to human activity. The phrase as dead as a dodo means undoubtedly and unquestionably dead.

This is one amazing looking game! I always liked the Soul Calibur series, ever since Soul Blade/Edge I was impressed with the ideas and the fighting system. This is going to be the second biggest gereration jump for the series hopefully they do alot of balance testing and add great new features(8 way direction hottest feature).
I personally think this beats Tekken 6 graphically, the detail in such little things like clothing is just amazing. I can't wait to see who the new characters are and what weapons they have.
traditionally, SC releases a few months after Tekken with the same or slightly improved graphics. it is hard to tell if they are improved or if they are the same only used differently. in any case, I always viewed Tekken as the new graphical staple for 3D games while seeing SC riding on that train.
both are cult favorite fighters.

Like I posted in the other thread, online play is confirmed.
Despite online multiplayer's growth, the fighting genre has notoriously resisted embracing the feature. The Mortal Kombat series was an early pioneer, but the old dismissal that online networking isn't fast enough for the split-second timing seems to be failing -- or companies have come to terms with it. Either way, the latest issue of EGM spills the beans: Soulcalibur IV will have online networking when it arrives on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008.
"What's changed this time round is that the next-gen platforms have network infrastructure already in place," says Soulcalibur IV Director Katsutoshi Sasaki. "We've heard from fans that they really want the game to be online, so we figured that, with the current environment, we really couldn't make SC4 without online play."
Score one for gamers. But, with the introduction of create-a-character in Soul Calibur III and its assured revamping in Soulcalibur IV, will these customizations go to waste? "We definitely want to allow users to fight with their customized characters during online play. But we're unsure whether or not you'll be able to trade characters with friends."
Check out EGM's 14-page spread on Soulcalibur IV in the latest issue, on newsstands now.
Source (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3160573)
Now, I'm probably going to be getting this game on the PS3, but hopefully Namco finds out a way to get multiplatform online working because I like the playstation controller better, but I also want to play my friends who only have a 360.
We'll have to see how this works out in the end.
I probably won't play this online much anyways, if I can't find good smooth matchups. I mean I dropped DOA4's online play really quickly because of lag, and I am hoping this won't turn out the same way.

I do find that strange. the only explanation I can think of for this is because they don't want to raise costs more than they have to. I mean, really now, how hard is it to have the best character model and animation in a 3D fighter than in other genre? I won't say some gaming influncing aspects like physics and what not, but at least shaders, cloth animation, lighting, etc. they should be far ahead of any other game. we still have character models shown last year that are not have been matched or even gotten closed to (MGS4/FF13). VF5 was good, for its release period. but come on, we should be knocked off our feet. is it really easier to have Sigma level character models in that game than in SC or Tekken?

Seriously, Ivy's big tits are the least of concerns.
Does this game repeat gameplay we had already on PSone,
or did they put some physics based fallings and destructible environments for an example? Is there something that screams next gen, better graphics are granted
so there must be something new -> VF5 was total disapointment for me.
Whine about big tits, but shut up about massive weapons?
Killing Moon
06-27-2007, 11:09 PM
I have to agree. VF5 was very much a disappointing rehash, Tekken 6 looks to be brain damaged w/ its attacking ducks and flinging high-heels, and now Soul Cal is becoming more and more like DOA, but with weapons.
Seems like the only real thing to look forward to is the SF II remake.
That’s really F’ing sad; fighting games have gone the way of the dodo.

Ivy's actually gotten bigger with each game, titty soon there gonna be so big the developers are gonna make them into a new character (Ivy verses Ivy's breast)
Well the game did change from Soul Edge to Soul Calibur so its no longer the same as the PS1 game. Why would there be destructible environments, you fight in a open area(surrounded by water or lava or atop a rock pillar). Physics always existed, you fall dont you. They could add weapon damage or decapitation but its been done and its no fun(imagine Mitsurugi vs Tira the game loads the characters and background, "Fight" runs across the screen then your characters there head gets cut off. "Your Dead") Fighters barely evolve, and when they do they get copied then its no longer new or fresh.
I always wondered what "Next Gen" meant and when the heck are we gonna get there.

They were killed during Lei Long's side story during the events of Soul Blade.
Siegfried got over it after being turned into ravenous, evil, spawn of hell.
He's cool with it now though. ;)
what I want to know is if they will do another quest mode where you go on a trip. I don't know SC games, but I've seen that mode in SC3 and I liked it. also, the character creation is a blast. of course, that would be there, but what about that quest mode (if that is what they called it)? has it been in all versions before?
also, I always get a kick about 'guest' characters in the game ever since SC2. I hope they do that too for this one. :)
PS. has online been undoubtedly, bluntly, directly, officially 110% confirmed for this game or not? the accuracy of the answer is extremely important for Tekken 6. don't ask, just answer.
GTShotoKen
06-28-2007, 04:01 AM
I don't know about your last question, but to answer the first: Soul Calibur one and two both had a weapon mastery mode where you go through a series of locations, mazes, and hidden areas (all of which are done through the main menu...it isn't a 3rd person adventure or anything) and participate in matches and level up your character and weapons and earn cash (these modes are also how you previously unlocked all of your character's alternate weapons by buying them through cash rewarded). A large majority of the matches had special (and very cool) conditions to them.
Soul Calibur 3 is sort of weird in this area because it contains all of the previous elements of weapon master mode in SCII and 1 and even has alot more options and features, but everything that made weapon mastery mode special has been essentially split up into their own respective game modes.
I believe that the chronicles of the sword mode was the replacement for the weapon mastery mode that was missing in the newest edition in the series (which is sort of like an RTS of sorts).
I'm guessing that the team wanted to integrate all of the features of weapon mastery mode in to every facet of the game in SCIII. I personally thought that was a bad idea though. I truly enjoyed this feature from the first two games (Soul Calibur 1 had the best version imo).

Good explanation GG, I was going to write something down but you covered everything very well. I disliked SC3 for excluding this but enjoyed the fact that it had Character Creation and had alot of mini challenges like fighting that giant statue and defeat Night Terror in 3 different difficulties.
That quest mode is why I enjoy the Soul games outside of just fighting, like Street Fighter Alpha 3 it adds to the game allowing it to have a prolonged single player life.

What's the game about: It's the latest episode in Namco's super-popular Soul Calibur series, and the first one on the PS3/360 hardware generation. The one-on-one 3D weapons-based fighting action that has always been the distinguishing characteristic of the series remains unchanged. Check out the latest issue of EGM for a cover story on the game, revealing much more.
What's new for E3: The addition of online fighting means that Soul Cali...er, Soulcalibur joins the other three 3D Japanese fighting franchises (Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive) in the online match-up arena, moving competitive combat out of the arcades and into living rooms everywhere, opening the field for players of all skill levels to meet and compete. Now, instead of padding your record by whupping your baby sister's ass, you can bring your A-game to the masses to see how you really stack up. The game wraps up with new characters, bigger stages (for fewer ring-outs), and the possibility of all-new game features that haven't been decided on, but could include anti-ringout measures.
What we like: Not only is online play good for gamers, but it's good for the genre, which despite the popularity of the final four, has been shrinking despite itself over the last half a decade. With more people playing together online, it's possible that the fighting game genre may see a resurgence in popularity, which could inspire more sequels and, hopefully, more innovation.
What we dislike: Ivy's been going back for seconds, as evidenced by the first promotional renders we've seen. Another thing is that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions seem like they will be the first releases of the game, with no arcade release preceding them. That factor led to balance issues with Soul Calibur 3 (since an arcade release often supplies the dev team with valuable feedback in this area) and could become an issue here.

I thought that the video gave a very good preview.
I'm made that there is no 720p 60fps trailer on the webiste like the video said, but oh well.
It's funny that I'm not very interested in the new character, but Siegfried. He looks freakin amazing the Soul Calibur that he's holding is completely made out of Ice (or crystal)! So will the story end with him?
I also liked how one of the Japanese dev's favorite character was Astaroth. ;)
Edit: The game really is early. I'm finding it very odd that anything of the game would be shown or that the graphics engine has made it this far and runs at 60fps. I wonder how much the game will evolve visually having another 12 or more months in development?

I loved that game! Sadly there arent any games like this anymore. It was very hard, but "realistic" and not overly gory
What I dont like about Tekken n and VF n is that it is basically ALWAYS the same with shinier graphics and two new characters. The hardcore fans may be pleased by this, but the rest, who played anything since Tekken 3 are bored (imho).
They should get the Euphoria Engine and do real physics driven animation and gameplay. This would maybe get me to get another Tekken since Tekken 3 (and a cheapo Tekken DR for 9.99€ on PSN)

Art of Soul Calibur 4
Missing at E3 was Soul Calibur 4, the next and final installment in the Soul Calibur series. It’s coming out in 2008 and here is an early look at some of the concept art for the fighters. Tira, one of the characters introduced in Soul Calibur III, looks notably different with long hair and Nightmare has a mouth in his chest.

It's just as childish to complain about breasts as it is to be enamored over them. It's just a digital character. Let it be. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/shmookins/emos/tuzi06.gif

Taki's and Ivy's breasts aren't obtrusive to me. Their overall character design is still great so I'm not bothered.
I still don't see why the breast size of a digital fighting game character makes you lose focus during a fight....?
Until they completely obstruct visual screen space (ok...Ivy's breasts are getting close to doing that ), I'm cool with what ever the artists want to do with the breasts of the female game characters.

I don't like it because when they oversex a game that it doesn't have a place in (fighting games......), it tells me that they're lacking in areas that actually matter (gameplay, graphics, story, etc.) and toss this shit in to compensate. Sex sells, and it's the easiest way to get attention and to appeal to people, therefore the most overdone.
So thanks, but no thanks.

I've been playing this series since Soul Blade for PSOne, but my interest level in this game has steadily declined since SC2...
It's just straight up unnecessary and, to be honest, a little insulting that they think gamers are so pitiful that every woman in the game has to have ridiculously big breasts & etc. for us to be interested in it. Not that it isn't pleasing on the eyes... but you catch my drift, right?

Why exactly would he want to check the archive?
And i agree with Liquid. Gimme a few chicks that at least dont sport double d's. Its like this in comics as well. The females are given huge breasts almost all the time. And of course to compliment this they wear skimpy outfits as well. I dont see the crotch section of the guys bulging like Ron Jeremy, so why are the girls most visible aspect over stated?
It isnt just insulting to some guys with higher morals or class, it also (at least, imo, which of course doesnt mean much since im a guy) turns away the females who have yet another form of media saying "this is sexy, this is what you should go after".
However, ultimately this can also go for the males with their bulging muscles and fit bodies. However, if both the females and the males had fit bodies and that was it this wouldnt be an issue. Instead each are given fit bodies but the girls are given over exaggerated breasts.
Damn, i could write a friggin book on this shit. 0_o

Whywould the developers waste time developing something as unnecessary as accurate reflections on armour? i realise its a fighting game, and graphics are expected to be good, but during a fight you'renot going to get enough time to admire reflections - so its better off using that power on other features - sparks, body models, environment, etc.

now that looks quite good...
1UP: Exclusive in-depth interview (http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?pager.offset=0&cId=3162839)
1UP: Can you tell us about SCIV's play style? Is it more like Soul Calibur III's design, or back to the old-school, hardcore mechanics of SCII?
Katsutoshi Sasaki, director: We have returned to the design flow of SCII. SCII is the most popular and well-known, so we returned to that style here.
1UP: What's going on with SCIV's storyline now?
KS: Nightmare and Siegfried play a key role in the story this time. Both characters have absorbed the power of their blades, Soul Calibur and Soul Edge, so they're near their final forms. The spotlight is on these two characters.
1UP: How are you using the 360 and PS3's technology to enhance SCIV in ways you couldn't do before?
KS: [Pointing to a TV monitor] As you can see from this stage, you have an open terrace, and you can see the shadows from above cast on the stage and characters as they fight. We will have HDR and flare lighting, as well as tone mapping, so the overall look of the stage will be quite different as the game nears completion. Another thing that's changed from SCIII is that game the stages were more closed, but now we've opened up the stages a bit.
1UP: Ivy seems...uh...healthier than before. Who super-sized her Happy Meal?
KS: Of course, Ivy stands out. A lot of attention has been paid to the character designs. We've done a lot of stuff with the high specs of the next-gen platforms. For example, with Ivy you can see how her clothing presses against her skin, which really shows off the details.
1UP: Which of the original characters return? It's not like you guys to remove characters, so can we assume everyone comes back?
KS: The most popular characters like Ivy, Seigfried, Nightmare, and Mitsurugi return, but we can't say much about the rest of the characters yet... We don't want to let anyone down, though. We want to include as many as possible.
1UP: Tira was a surprising character addition, considering that she looked like she got jumped in an alley, what with her costume being all torn up. Have you changed her for SCIV?
Daishi Odashima, game director: Regarding Tira, before she had that green-based costume in SCIII, Now, she sports a red costume, and this reflects her split personality. This time, she's a bit more evil, and that really comes out in her character.
1UP: Are you adding any interactive, destructible elements to the game?
DO: There may have been a similar stage in SCIII, but this time there are carousel figures moving around the edge. If you character bumps into one of these, it will be destroyed, but you'll bounce back into the stage.
1UP: The lighting seems much more dramatic now -- a lot more high-contrast than before.
DO: We're focusing on light and darkness in the stages, trying to use that more effectively. The game's less than half done, so expect it to look far more spectacular when it's finished.
1UP: Will you totally tweak everyone's move lists, like you did with the eventual arcade release of Soul Calibur III, which benefited from the balancing you did on the console versions? Some people thought Sophitia was too powerful in the PS2 version, for example.
DO: At this point, we can't say much about if we'll drastically change any character's move sets.
1UP: Is developing for two platforms simultaneously hampering your abilities to maximize the performance of the game in any way, or are you able to squeeze everything you need out of them?
KS: In developing for the PS3 and 360, they're both very powerful platforms. And the time and effort required to develop the graphics requires a lot more time, money, and energy. The Calibur team always tries to put out something that's better than the last project, so we're always trying to improve our next game. These new consoles have so many abilities, so it's hard to scale back our ambitions and get it done in time.
Masaaki Hoshino, lead programmer: Also, since this game engine is multiplatform, we've actually had experience with that 'problem' working on SCII for GC, XB, and PS2. But it's still a challenge to develop resources that can easily be ported between these two consoles and have the same level of quality.
1UP: Soul Calibur III was the first game in the series to be developed directly for console, without an arcade release to precede it. As a result, the PS2 version didn't benefit from the usual beta period games get with an arcade release, and the chance to balance it beforehand. Basically, a lot of the game was broken from a balance standpoint. How will you avoid that with SCIV? Will it come out in arcades first, or will you be able to balance things with updates and patches?
DO: For III, you are correct, we had the home version and then the arcade, so we did a lot to improve the game when it moved to arcade. SCIV is also starting on the home console, like III. We did a lot to improve SCIII as it progressed, so we have that arcade balance as a base that we can improve and expand upon. We're confident that we can produce a game that everyone is happy with.
KS: Of course, it's technically possible to patch it at a later date, but since we're selling a packaged game at retail, we don't intend to make a game that needs to be patched at a later date.
1UP: Are you changing any of the defensive techniques in the game -- bringing back the weapon break, or anything like that?
KS: We're going to greatly improve many elements in the existing gameplay. We have some specific changes in mind for the Guard Break mechanic.
DO: We also plan to change the health gauge. Normally, if you deplete your opponent's health you win the match. Now, there's a new gameplay element that will let you win that doesn't involve the health gauge.
1UP: We really liked the create-a-character mode... Will you enhance this for SC4?
KS: This is another element that we've put a lot of effort into. This mode reappears in SCIV, and we have a lot of new options and it's been greatly enhanced. For example, you can now change the character's voice. We're including many more appearance options, and the different parts you choose will have actual meaning and affect gameplay.
1UP: What ever happened to Mitsurugi's classic showdown with Tanegashima from Soul Edge/Blade? In the secret ending you could either win or lose. Will Tanegashima be a playable character at any point [in SCIV]?
Masaaki Hoshino, lead programmer: It's interesting that you bring that up, actually. We can't say anything yet, but you may be on to something.
1UP: Will you be able to trade your characters online?
KS: We are thinking of what we can do using the network for the customization mode -- whether or not you'll be able to trade characters with friends hasn't been decided yet.
1UP: What's your goal in creating the new characters?
DO: When creating characters, I first think about it from a gameplay aspect -- what kind of character is fun to play? Then we go from there, approaching the visual aspect -- what kind of character looks cool.
1UP: Is that how you came up with Tira?
KS: There is an overall design for the characters, and Tira has a split personality, so her two different costumes reflect the two sides -- light and energetic, then dark and depressed.
1UP: Everyone's costumes have become more elaborate. Any chance of bringing back the original costumes from Soul Edge/Blade?
KS: Yes, we'd like to bring back some classic costumes.
1UP: Will you add online play to the game?
KS: Yes, the game will have online play. What's changed this time around is that the next-gen platforms have network infrastructure already in place, so it's much easier to develop an online component for SCIV. We've heard from fans that they really want SC to be online, and we truly wanted to deliver that, so we figured that with the current environment we couldn't make SCIV without online play.
1UP: What about SCIV makes it next-gen in ways [the series] wasn't before?
MH: With SC, we focus on creating a game that's visually appealing, on such a level that other games can't really compete. One point where that was very evident was with the DC version of SC -- we were really able to polish that one. Other advancements in the hardware have made it possible to take the game to 60fps, and we've been able to keep that without having to lower our standards. Whenever new hardware arrives, the team is always in a bind to catch up and figure out how to maximize it, but at the same time, we're quite pleased because previous ideas that we had but were unable to implement due to hardware constraints are now possible.
1UP: Will you bring back the Chronicles of the Sword mode, or a similar quest-type mode?
KS: The Chronicles of the Sword mode will not be returning. We feel that it was finished in SCIII and we were happy with the results, but we want to try something new for SCIV. Of course, going back to Chronicles, our impetus for this mode was to give players the feeling of being in a world with many other characters in the same environment. It gave us a base to build on for the new mode that we're going to implement in SCIV. However, we don't plan to take Chronicles and just beef it up.
1UP: Will you add any dreaded motion control features using the PS3's Sixaxis?
KS: Sixaxis control is something that we're considering, but we'll have to come up with some good ideas for it first. Feel free to send us your ideas!
1UP: Will the stages become larger now, and will they have more walls or fewer walls? Dan Hsu loves to ring people out.
DO: The stages are more open, but they have walls in places, too. Perhaps there will be slightly fewer ring outs because of this.
KS: One way that it's changed is that unlike before, there aren't as many chances to fall out anymore...it's more focused on specific areas in the stages where you can fall out.
1UP: Is there any danger of adding console-specific characters like Link or Spawn to the Soul Calibur series?
DO: When we create characters for the home version, we worry more about if it's interesting, fun, unique, and different. Since that is the main focus, the team decided that it's OK if all the characters are strengthened. Since it's a home game and not arcade, you don't lose 100 yen ($1) every time you play. So we felt that it was more important to make them fun... so perhaps Sophitia and Xianghua benefited a little more than the others...
1UP: Every Soul Calibur has a freakier-looking Yoshimitsu, and he was crazy looking last time. What are you planning to do to him this time?
KS: Look forward to a completely different Yoshimitsu... If Voldo were to be in SCIV we're sure that he would continue his path.
1UP: Ha! We were able to confirm at least 1.5 more characters for SCIV. Like they wouldn't have returned... [Laughs] Have you ever seen any Voldo cosplay? Every time someone cosplays as Voldo, God kills a kitten.
KS: They're quite disturbed.
1UP: Something that we liked about Soul Calibur in the past was the real-time intro for the Dreamcast version. Will you bring that back, because now real-time graphics look so good, so why bother with CG? It was fun to swap out female characters with male characters too, since it made characters like Astaroth look hysterical doing Sophitia's poses.
MH: I actually did that back in the day for Dreamcast. I'm flattered you remember that. Since we were bringing the game from arcade hardware to Dreamcast, we didn't have time to make a new CG opening, so they asked me to come up with something cool, and the real-time editable intro is what I designed. I'm glad you like it. For Soul Calibur IV, we plan to do something in that vein, although you'll have to wait and see if you like what we've come up with.
1UP: Where does Voldo shop for his clothes? He's always got new outfits.
DO: We're not sure where he shops, but since he can't see, he probably thinks that he dresses normally.
KS: Since he's mysterious, we don't really even know!
1UP: Have you considered adding tag team play in SCIV? How come you've never added it before, when Tekken's been doing it for years?
KS: We have considered tag play in the past, but we do have something new planned for SCIV that players will be very pleased with.
1UP: Which are your favorite characters?
KS: Recently, I've taken a liking to Lizardman...he has a great low sweep kick. I also love Taki. I love the move where she grabs an opponent and jumps up in the air.
DO: I like Tira, Amy, and Yoshimitsu. They're all very new. Yoshimitsu is always being radically redesigned, Tira is fresh and fun to play as, and Amy...I like weaker characters.
MH: I like Astaroth, because he's so powerful there's always a chance to make a comeback.
1UP: Soul Calibur's roster hails from all over the world, like when you added Filipino characters, which I think was a first. Does that mean SCIV's new characters will come from new nations?
KS: That's another aspect of SC. It's set in the 16th century with characters from all over the world...it's very international. One aspect that would be a good hint would be to consider the country of origin for possible new characters. The character creation aspect was something that we felt was very well received in SCIII, so we really wanted to power that up in SCIV. And the idea for holding contests to see who could create the best version of a specific character is something that we're currently considering.
1UP: Any thought to making a created character's strength change depending on what he's wearing?
KS: Yes, according to what items your character has, their actual abilities will change.
1UP: One thing that drove us nuts about Virtua Fighter 5 was the fact that you'd invest all this time into developing a character, but you couldn't bring it to a friend's house on a memory card. Will you have the same problem with SCIV?
MH: Since Sony guidelines are frequently updated, it's possible that the save-game rules have changed. We hope to allow players to save their customized characters and bring them over to their friends' houses. In the event that we wouldn't be able to do that, you'd still be able to take your characters online and fight!

EDIT: they seemingly have the same text for both X2 and PS3 so you can't tell the main dev console. I only want NOT TO GET SHAFTED with scatty port for the umpteenth time.
KS: Of course, it's technically possible to patch it at a later date, but since we're selling a packaged game at retail, we don't intend to make a game that needs to be patched at a later date. = we in some companies in Japan have still got the mentality not to consider the availability of PSN a positive thing at all, also the thing called Xbox Live is out of question :D
Thankfully PD is going to do the updates via patches, they even updated GT:HD once, AFAIK.

Whywould the developers waste time developing something as unnecessary as accurate reflections on armour?
What makes you think they're accurate? You don't see a reflection of her weapon on that armor, or the rope holding down that cape... It's a static cubemap of the level -- about the hardest part there is setting up an in-game cubemap capture option so that you can actually save off that image any time you need in case the environment gets modified. Since SC is pretty much based in small environments, 1 or 2 cubemaps per level is good enough.

Good call cpi. I gotta admit though, when everyone was saying the reflections were too good, I started to forget you could just have those static reflection things and thought they were too good to be true then as well.

Like BlackDragon said before, the SC3 arcade edition was a much more finely tuned game, but I was under the impression that the Soul team at Namco learned from their mistakes (I guess not though).
I agree that they should release an arcade version first too to iron out any glaring imbalances and bugs.

Sheesh...all this freakin money and devs are still churning out updated games. Thank goodness for SF4...Thank Goodness for LBP...Thank Goodness for MGS4...

Copied from what is now www.caliburforum.com:
I don't think Namco is very nice.
Sure the guys at project soul want to create the perfect game, so that they don't need patches. But from my prospect this whole thing looks like...
SC3 didn't do so well, so unless SC4 reaches some pinnacle, they're going to scrap the franchise. They have Tekken as a money maker, why should they invest in another fighter that doesn't yield satisfactory profits. That's the feeling I get from SC4 being... at least for now, the last installment in the franchise.
And if you ask me, Namco probably set the stupid deadlines, and made all the wrong decisions for the sake of profit, before the initial release of SC3. They rushed it...when Project soul wasn't 100% done with it.
If you pay attention to these interviews looking at the guys that work on this game, they looked stressed. Like..."this is it," if this don't work out they probably going to work on some other Namco product or find a new job.
I understand people who make games, want them to be good, they want customers to enjoy their hard work, and the same time be able to watch as their work flourishes into something big. But their dealing with Namco here.
We are all dealing with Namco, with there inability to invest in a very powerful product. That's why I even said that Namco might as well just sell the whole franchise, since it doesn't know what to do with it.
Tekken has already set it's fan base, and so for Namco it's worth it. It puts a lot of its attention into that fighter as apposed to SC. So I guess with that said, the longevity of SC not just SC4, isn't going to come down to how Namco markets the franchise, but how we the so-called community sales it to gamers.
Now I could sit here and say this and that about what might or might not be, that would be a waste of time. The discussion here is the Longevity of this franchise, and so far it seems its going to come down to how we do it. I mean if you look at all the official SC sites that Namco owns, none of them are up to time, they're late with the updates, you get pics and images from other sites way before the official sites update.
Wtf is the point of this shit?

So again like someone said before me.
Ask not what SC4 can do for you, but what can you do for this franchise.
That's pretty much what we should be talking about here, as long as it's better than SC3, we can do a lot. I am hoping we can get some work done on this site so that it rivals this one...

We have the talent.
If I wasn't having trouble with my Photoshop right now, you'd probably be seeing some Vader & Yoda smiles dancing around.

SC4 or T6, either way, Namco wins. It really depends on what you want:
Body rockin' hits (Tekken 6)
Or giant ninja tits (Soul Calibur 4)
YOU DECIDE.

Dead Or Alive's better at that department.
But don't count DOAX2 by any means.

I've always been a sucker for titties .
On a more serious note, I pretty much think that SC4 and T6 will be as far as each dev can take each series in their current direction.
I have my own personal ideas as to what new direction each series can go though.

And why do I feel the sudden urge for this game to be modable?
I fear we will never learn the answer.
