Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots @ E3 2007 [Archive]

Not too much to report here yet, but in two weeks the situation will change dramatically :)

According to the latest Kojima Productions Report Sessions, we can be certain we will finally see new environments and we can expect an epic trailer with English voice acting. A playable demo for the attendees isn't out of the question although nothing has been confirmed yet. Will we be given a final release date? Will MGS4 be released later this year or early next year? Will MGS4 feature Spanish, German, French, Italian, etc. voice acting just like MGS1 did? What will the online mode be like? Is there an important and fresh gameplay feature we know nothing about yet?

We will find out soon, hopefully :) It's been 10 months since we last got some proper news and new footage, and we MGS fans are hungry for more. I wish I could resist looking at the latest trailer, but I can't.

I think a playable demo is quite likely (since there was one for MGS2 even earlier than that and MGS3 was playable at the E3 before its release), but I wouldn't expect one necessarily. English voice acting will be great to hear -- we normally don't get the English trailers until the Leipzig before the game comes out so this will be an early gift. Given that KojiPro "submerged" on this game so much earlier in development, and that they are already going to have English voice-acting ready to show, I'd say if anything they're ahead of their normal schedule and I have no doubt it'll be hitting in 2007.

I also REALLY want to see Vamp, and I hope Phil La Marr makes a return for it :-D

Pre-E3 whispers say MGS4 will be a timed exclusive for PS3. Microsoft mentioned just about every other game under the sun at its E3 press conference expect Kojima's highly-anticipated action game.

It was only yesterday that rumours of Metal Gear Solid 4 being released for Xbox 360 hit a new high. Konami's head of US and European operations, Kazumi Kitaue, said that even though Metal Gear Solid was born for PlayStation, and the firm would like to keep it that way, steps may have to be taken.

We can only presume that he means steps taken to make the game multiplatform to cover the cost of the game's lengthy development cycle.

A source has told CVG that , "Kitaue is constantly trying to force Kojima to drop the game's PS3 exclusivity, which Hideo refuses point blank to do. Trust me MGS4 will be a PS3 exclusive for for months at least."

Fellows, I'm totally speechless. The artistic and technical quality of that trailer was beyond amazing. To think that the game will still look better and feel even more incredible than it is now... And all the mysteries will be solved as well. I've never felt so thrilled by a game ever before.

Oh, and sorry for the trolls and doubters and rumor makeuppers... MGS4 is 100% exclusive to PS3. Kojima was there on the stage, nuff said. Accept it now :cowboy:

Thank god I taped the Sony conference because I had to go back and watch this trailer again. In doing so I noticed a few things.

1) The scar from the bullet wound is still on Vamp's forehead. Very nice touch.

2) It appears that Vamp has some mechanical attachments to his legs. There appears to be some silver, claw like attachments to the front of his boots.

3) It's minor, but I noticed on a few boards that people think that it's a scar on the left side of his face but it is indeed a lock of hair. You can actually see it move.

For the bullet hole, freeze fram and scrub through the footage when Vamp stabbed Raiden in the foot and then looks up at him.

That trailer was off the charts. Especially the fight with Vamp. I'm happy to see him back because he was one of my favorite villans in MGS2. And PS3 Vamp looks great.

I got that as well. I also think Snake is a possibility. the scenes don't have to be sequential, they could have been edited and mixed to throw us off.

as for who might the masked soldier be, it can only be Raiden. Snake isn't that petite- if you know what I mean. and his voice sounded like a 12 year old. it sounded just like old Raiden. his voice did change in 4, but we only heard him when he is wearing a suit.

unless it is another wacky Kojima twilit zone things and ends up being Olga's child. in any case, Vamp got my full attention. I can't concentrate.

I noticed something awesome; when Raiden throws his sword at Vamp and Vamp only tilts his head to avoid it, that wasn't what he did! the freak actually brocke/dislocated his head! there is sound of bone crackling as well. how cool is that?!

as for the Vamp dance of death (cool name huh?) another cool move that maybe missed is that just before the ending when they stab each other, Raiden throws the sword at Vamp and Vamp throws knives at Raiden. the cool bit? Raiden's sword keep juggling between them and Raiden keeps on juggling it with his feet mid ait to deflect Vamp's knives. it gets too intense the sword starts to glow red from the fraction!

man I like to meet the director of these insane fight scenes!

I don't think there's anyway that could be Raiden in that suit. His exo-skeleton during that fight with Vamp looks entirely took bulky to fit in that soldier's uniform. I could be wrong, as the person does have white hair, but I wouldn't bet on it yet.

Agreed. It seems Killzone had a pretty profound effect at E3 and on peoples views on the PS3. I've seen a few "I might finally get a PS3 now" comments on other forums in Killzone threads lol. I think this'll definantly go down as the trailer/game to remember of this years E3. But MGS is a close second in my book cause it was a amazing trailer.

It's true, I've seen many negative comments on the awesome, awesome MGS4 trailer yesterday. Now that it's a 100% PS3 exclusive, the game doesn't look good, has been downgraded, it's boring, the MGS franchise is doomed, bla bla bla...

Yeah, you'd better hate on it because it's not going to your system, haters :-p Most likely because it wouldn't be as good, but you're not going to accept that, right? ;) Well, I guess it's time for you to save for a not-so-expensive-anymore and great, great value after yesterday's conference PS3 :)

I lost all interest in MGS4 when I saw this trailer. It just seems like a b-movie!!! I mean, a gay imortal? A group of Dolph Lundgrens with a colonel's daughter? Snake not shooting Liquid from a distance in the head with a rifle?(ok, I know that would just be too easy but heh)
I did like how many troops were rendered on screen at once. Wow....... I counted more than thirty!!! With snake and the level and at a real high quality at 1080p!!!

Meh, to each their own. MGS4 is very impressive and there's no way I'm going to miss it. I'm glad they delayed it until around March because it's really going to benefit from the extra development time and a larger installed base post Christmas, as well as the fact that the fall lineup for all systems is too amazing and it would have been overkill to have MGS4 this year. Not to mention it is very likely that a new sixaxis with rumble/touchsense is released this year, and MGS will take advantage of it. A worldwide simultaneous release is the best news I could possibly hear being an European used to playing new MGS titles months after they've been released in Japan.

well, from past MGS B-movies seen, I think I for one will go bananas over this one. and yes, before you misunderstand that, I am being sarcastic while pointing out the excellent story telling of past games and how this is the finale to end all finales. some laughed at past MGS stories, so I don't think those people will enjoy this one. but for the rest of us, this is a finale ten years in the making. how can we not be excited? ;)

For me personally, MGS4 was better than KZ2, because I dont like FPS much...

I know what MGS will be like (all MGS games had great gameplay) and what it will feel like (great story and graphics). For me, FPS are "more of the same" since Doom, so KZ doesnt interest me very much.

Graphically, MGS4 did a GREAT job. It is different, but not worse than KZ2. And since we saw a cinematic trailer of MGS4 (with limited FOV etc.), you cannot directly compare it to KZ2s "ingame" trailer.

Snake's face and eyes are very vivid in the newest flick, moving a lot more than what has been shown earlier. In E3'05 video his face looked fine but it was a lot more static so I really like the direction they have been going to.

I've watched this trailer like five times today. I still can't get over how good it looks and that fight with Vamp and Raiden is still just as amazing as it was yesterday. The main thing that's bugging me is trying to figure out who that soldier was that was unaffected by the nanomachines. All I know is that he called out to other Foxhound member with the mohawk who seems to be named Johnathan. Didn't recognize the voice though.

*imagines playing MGS4 on 1080p display* :cloud9: I think after seeing MGS4, (especially) Killzone, Uncharted, Heavanly Sword, and Ratchet and Clank (and others) we can safely say that next-gen is here. :) Finally seeing games that make me think this couldn't been done on PS2 or on xbox. And we couldn't get gameplay like this outta a last gen console.

mgs4, its better than crack :cloud9:I'm poor and only got the PS2 so current gen for me IS still the PS2 lol. If I actually had a PS3 (and felt the PS2 was phased out and had no life in it) maybe I would look at it from a different perpective but until then I naturally call the PS3 a next-gen console.

there is the 20th anniversary event in the next week or two and MGS4 will make an appearance. Kojima said in the show that he will show us a little of the game play. this sounds too good that I have my doubts. but regardless, I know TGS will have to have something playable. *crosses fingers*

I'd say it's looking more lifelike, but it's difficult to tell as it looked so damn good before. I think the big leap in quality for MGS4 was last years E3 trailer.

I will admit I've liked the character since MGS2 as well. That scene where he slaughtered the SEALs team was just excellent. It really made him stand out as being a bit more ruthless and capable than the rest of the Dead Cell members. Plus it didn't hurt that no matter how many times the guy when down, he just kept coming back for more.

well, Snake is the default character just like how every body likes Barbie. but what about the other character?
okay, not the best example, let me change it; it is just like how everybody likes Rambo. but what about the other...wait a sec, the guy doesn't have friends or foes. okay, so main lovable guy with secondary characters all over. you get the picture.

Vamp is one of my fav villans. I loved his personality and his action scenes. He was smooth but a bad ass at the same time lol. He was just a memorable character. I was never crazy about Fortune but thats just me. She just didn't have the style or the personality that made some of the other villians memorable in MGS imo. But regardless I know they'll be some unforgetable villans in MGS4 (because they're a staple of the MGS series).

Fortune was pathetic, I'll admit that much. the only thing that she did was her grand finale. although some could argue that that is indeed the point of her being pathetic the whole time. in any case, if she is good enough for Vamp, she is good enough for me. lol

I agree. you see, I don't really care for those maniac villains that can't stop laughing while they shoot at nothing but sky. I like the smart type that know exactly what they are doing and they do it with style. look at his fight with Raiden; he was so calm that you feel he was playing with Raiden. and did I say his voice rocks? lol

you know what I would kill for? a showdown between Vamp and Ocelot! now there's good TV right there people!

That was a great scene and totally just added to the mystery of Vamp. My jaw literally dropped when he jumped out of the harrier cockpit and bolted across the water. I'm hoping Kojima tosses in some more incredible feats like that for the character in MGS4.
