Well my 360 has run without a hitch since last Xmas and now since the summer heat has arrived I can't get my 360 to play a game longer then 10 seconds. I tried isolating my 360 and sticking a fan near the back and that's not helping. Sometimes my console won't even start up and it'll make a beeping noise of some sort or the picture will totally get screwed up. I got 3 red lights about 5 days ago and I don't know what that means. Maybe something got screwed up and it was warning me. Anyone know what this is? I have a one year store warranty with K-Mart if there's something wrong with the hardware.
EDIT: I should also mention the 360 is now plugged up to a surge protector with 500 cords and multi-taps attached to it (I rearranged my room and before it was connected to a surge protector with only the 6 plugs filled. Would this make a difference such as power not going to the fans or something? The 360 gets hot even just sitting on the blades menu.
Well first I would isolate the plug just to make sure its not a power issue, don't know if the way its setup like that would make a difference but there is no harm in trying. Other then that though I have no idea and since you have a warranty you might just consider getting it replaced.

Back to the shop before the warranty runs out son.
If you could fix it yourself it would involve breaking the warranty anyway so...

Well I'm trying the last thing. I just had the power supply and 360 unplugged and I stuck a fan near it to completely cool it down and now I'm going to fire it up and see. Before I could put my hand on the back and slowly feel the 360 heating up within 30 seconds or so. If it still does the same...back to the store. Good thing is doesn't run out until December. Do any of you know if I have to bring EVERYTHING that came with the premium bundle back or do I just hand them the box and the console? If I have to bring everything back I need to back up my HDD.
EDIT: Well I just tried it and it did the same thing. I think the GPU solders are loose because I read somewhere that when you get the 3 red lights and you get constant crashes it means the GPU is all fucked up. The console also beeps every time it crashes. Also, like a dumb ass I accidentally lifted the 360 to much horizontally and the disc started grinding in the drive and it left a ring around it. THANKFULLY the game still plays just fine. Oh well back to K-Mart tomorrow then but does ANYONE know if I have to bring everything back or just the console and cables?

Did you, by any chance, mention 3 red lights in the ring?!!
Yes you did.
I got 3 red lights about 5 days ago and I don't know what that means.
That means your console needs to be replaced or repaired. It's a code of some sort for microsoft engineers who fix it, I think. Google for 3 ring lights or check other 360 forums for 3 ring lights n you'll confirm what I mean.
Send it back to Microsoft before your warranty is over. You'll have to pay shipping charges I think, get ready to shell some money.

Ummm...I don't think you read my posts man. I know what the 3 red lights mean and I have a store warranty I'm taking it back tomorrow to get a new premium bundle.

I'd offer them just the console but bring all that other crap with you. More you give them, more they have to loose.

Problem solved! I brought it back and K-Mart customer service tried ripping me off by saying that if I bought the "Smart Plan" I had to call Microsoft and they fix it, but I told them that's bullshit because it's a STORE WARRANTY and MS would just tell me to contact K-Mart. So they said they'd "exchange it this once only" but that's just bullshit and they were some stupid brods who had no idea what to do. I think the price scared them and they didn't wanna fuck up. No matter though I got my new 360 and I've just plugged it in and will give it a spin later. One difference is the plug is 2 prong instead of 3 prong. LESS power!! I wound up buying a memory unit and backing up my saves because they wanted everything (the ethernet cord wasn't in their because my mom's using it!) So thanks for all your help!

2 prong does not mean less power, it just means there is no ground wire. buy an external cooling kit for it, they apparently really need it.

thats interesting.... no ground wire.... so something's been changed from metal to plastic on the exterior of the console with an update? at least thats my understanding of why no ground wire is needed...

they don't really need it. its just something that alot of people believe. i try to tell people that it isn't the 360 the box its the power brick. if anyone listens to the brick itself it has a fan. it must breathe. people just stuff it in the back of their 500 wires and then expect it to live. NEX GEN THINGS ARE LIVING BEINGS PEOPLE. and also the 360 needs to breathe. mines is an original and it has no problems.
an external fan really isn't needed. jus better awareness.(not saying that any of you don't know this already. just a common belief.)
Edit: NEVER MIND!! THE S.O.B. JUS DIED ON ME!!!

It just died on you! Shit talk about coincidence. Yeah the external fans are actually pretty shit because the guy at Game Crazy told me not to buy one. He said his melted to the back of his 360. I just made my 360 a little bed type thing in my room. It used to be WAY up high on top of my bookshelf but I guess that's what got it to overheat(heat rises!). So I took a little lap tray and stuck it next to my computer AWAY from the sun and I took a little fan and I have it blowing near the back and my power brick is just fine it hardly gets hot. I have my 360 standing up now instead of laying flat because the heat will rise instead of being spread evenly over the motherboard. I haven't played a game in it yet but the thing still gets pretty hot even just sitting there charging the controller or something.

duct tape over the vent holes....keep that heart OUT! lol j/k
Does no one think that this is a major fucking joke? I'm so glad that I got rid of my 360 when I had the chance, it's really pathetic.
I've never had a problem with my launch console and it sits in a little hole in my entertainment center thing and it definitely isn't ventilated properly. I think you guys make way to big of a deal out of this.

I've talked enough on this issue, I think I don't need to add to why I would be displeased about the current Xbox 360 design.

The ground is for electrical-short safety to minimize possible user or equipment damage by means of routing excess eletricity into the earth ground. Its can also be used for signal's reference point, usually digital signals, because voltage signal is a potential difference, or or assist shielding. I am unsure why they removed it, it was probably deemed cheaper/safe to do without since copper is premium.

yeah - normally if the exterior is plastic, theres no risk of electric shock, so no ground is needed - but if the exterior is metal (say, on a toaster for instance) there will be one. I guess costs could be the reason, or perhaps the ground wire was simply a precaution in the first place.
can't wait for microsoft to start selling these (http://www.russells-tech.com/cryo.htm) as an accessory...

i'm happy for you also. but for me its not really a choice. the ps3 is too expensive right now for the same games that my 360 is getting. ya know.

A big deal? Really? So have you just buried your head in the sand while all the reports from all over the Internet have been claiming this on a daily basis? It is a big deal.
my 360 broke too!
j/k :-)
