View Full Version : Clutch Slipping?

Well it was so weird. I was driving on the high way today and an exhaust hanger came off causing a bad exhaust leak. So whatever, not a big thing to get fixed. So I bring it to an exhaust shop, and the hoist that was open was one of those ones where you drive up. Well I lowered my car to shit and when i drove up an onto the hoist, the jack that goes across the two ramps hit the bottom of my car. Just under the motor.

Never thought anything of it, but as soon I pulled it out I realized my clutch was permanently slipping. Now I'm pissed off because i have no idea how to work on a transmission.

Its so stupid, even my shifter feels loose when I put it into first and third gear. I don't know how something that small can cause such a problem.

Has this ever happened to anyone else before? Its a 2000 Honda Prelude BTW. Obviously a 5spd. And its a centerforce dual friction clutch.

And some pics if anyone wants to see my car.

Thx in advance, gonna have to call an transmission shop in the morning, don't really want to bring it to Honda.

Is your clutch slipping or is it coming from the transmission itself. Describe the symptoms a bit more :) Do you feel it slipping in mid-shift as in the gear doesnt catch right away, or does it go in to gear and then feel like its slipping?

Well its like the clutch is permanently not engaging all the way. Like you have to release the pedal completely before it even grabs somewhat. If that makes sense. Its like somethings loose. Its as if i was driving with the clutch in just a little bit. And it won't ever fully engage.

Have someone bleed the clutch line and then see what it feels like. It could be that you have a leak in the system or too much fluid, or there is too much air in the system. I had a similar problem when i had my M3 and it was exactly how you are explaining it.

Hmmm...I'm gonna have to check into that tommorow evening after work if I get time.

Thats actually what it seemed to be. I have to get some more fluid to put in the resivore just to make sure. SO my car is back in action. Just hope it doesn't happen again.

Thx
