Anybody hear anything new about it? I strolled into Gamestop (really gotta stop that...they are assholes) and wanted to change my deposit from Zelda DS to Mario Strikers, and he said..."Why not Manhunt...that's what I'd go for..."
Then I said, "Well, it's in limbo, right?"
He pulls out a paper today from his District Manager stating Manhunt 2 is now officially available to reserve again and that it's coming out October 2nd. I asked how...and all it said was "The ratings issue seems to have been resolved".
Since these are GS employs we are dealing with, they will try to sell you something whether it exists or not, so I was wondering if any news was heard about this possibly being true...Because I will hold my preorder until then.

Last I heard Take2 was taking the fight to the rating system and there hasn't been any deverlopment on the case yet.
Thank god Take2 have some balls.

No they said they're taking the back to the office and cutting it up and wussfying it. I was really upset when I heard that. They're gonna shoot for a Mature rating. They'll probably take the piano wire strangling with the nunchuk and Wiimote out of the Wii game for sure.

I don't know to what degree it's been stripped down but yes, it is back on for US distribution in October.
My understanding is there is a 3 tiered death system each subsequently more grotesque and involving than the lower level. Word is that the ESRB wanted most of the tier 3 deaths out.
What I find funny is a former exec of the ESRB is slamming them for the AO label and calling the ESRB a failed ill-governing body in that it's supposed to simply inform of content and rate as such and not dictate what games are proper for sale on shelves.

So what you're basically saying is that the ESRB wanted one of the most fundemental gameplay mechanics removed?
That's fucking stupid.

From what IGN was saying during a play test prior to anything being removed, tier 1 and 2 were pretty much just as nasty as tier 3.
However, I really don't know to what degree they really are altering the game. Those were just the main issues ESRB had with the game.

My questions is this - will this game emotionally/morally damage anyone that Grand Theft Auto and some other rated M titles don't? I strongly doubt it. I've always thought that AO was reserved for pornographic games only, but I guess not.

Supposedly the idea behind an AO rating is not based on pornographic content but rather ensuring little Billy can't play it and warp his fragile little mind.
Never mind that rated M does the same exact fucking thing.

I could not describe my thoughts on this topic any better and more concise than you just have.
Besides addressing my post's mention of pornographic content and swearing. I probably would have left those out, causing a smaller post. :P

The idea behind the swearing is twofold.
1. Drive the point home.
2. Prove that it's already too late to save my warped mind and I've never even played an AO game that would supposedly warp it thereby making the AO rating unnecessary altogether.
I mean here it is, July 12th and I could sitting in front of my Wii contentedly chopping up people in various intrinsically detailed ways. But NOOOOOO....the ESRB had to protect little Billy from the vile and torturous events such as clerks at EB asking for an ID to buy the frikkin game.

I was just saying that because I said that I could not say it any more concise than what you posted. Then I corrected myself and said that if I took out the swearing it actually could be more concise.

I got that and thank you.
I was just trying to be funny.

Where? I still see Oct 1.
If you are using retailers, toss it out. They suck more than fanboy guestimates.
