View Full Version : I miss my Toonami
So i was cleaning my closet and found a shit load of VHS that I have video taped over the years. So I pop one in, and to my surprise its toonami, specifically Tenchi Universe. Seeing all the old shows I love brought happiness to my heart but I was sad at the same time as well, because I know that they will not be airing again.
Ronin Warriors, Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Gundam, Outlaw Star, Tenchi, Reboot.
Everything toonami had, kicked. fucking. ass. Now ever since this maguzi shit or wtf came into the picture Toonami had gone through a drastic change. Instead of conveniently being on every weekday, I have to wait a whole week to see my favorite programming. I said fuck it and haven't watched toonami in years, but now that I watched this old tape of mine, its really stirring up alot of great memories, that I wish never died. Toonami has a couple of great shows now, but most of them dont have apeal as the other ones do. Naruto and One Piece are the only worthy ones I think. If they took those 2 shows and aired all the former ones, this would be god.
No real point to this thread, just a rant. I want my old shool toonami back!
anyone feel the same way?
And one question. WTF happened to tom!!?? How did he go from little cool robot, to extreemly cool robot, to a fucking PBS looking Sesame Street host?
wtf were they thinking?

I don't like any Toonami myself.
Channels you grew up with always look worse than they did back in the day. I can hardly even switch over Nickelodeon without cringing, it having only two worthwhile shows. Whether it's just nostalgia or that they've gone downhill I do not know, but it feels that way at least.

I whole-heartedly agree.
Television definitely has taken a turn for the worst [especially in the kiddy-realm]. Anime is definitely becoming a largely popular genre of cartoon, and it's painful to see what some American artists call emulating the genre.
What happened to creativity?

You know you're getting old when cartoon generations after yours are now considered a past generation of cartoons.
Cartoon creativity died in the mid 90's.

Ronin Warriors is one of my all-time favorite shows.
and I absolutely loved Dragonball Z.
Reboot was the Shit. Dragonball Z consumed my life for like 5 years. But there is one show that will never be topped by any other show ever.

I never watched Dragonball Z. Thank God. I was consumed, however, by a show that I don't need to mention for people to know what it was for the longest of time.

Only really good animes which Toonami aired was Outlaw Star and the various Gundam series. But they all ususally were edited to hell, so here is to bootleg DVD's. :-p
Reboot and gundam were the shit but my favorite was robotech.

On Facebook, my religion says "Dragonball Z".
I think that tells you enough of my opinion on this matter.
I used to love Toonami. I'd get home from school right when Toonami would start, and they would keep me occupied until it was over. As many other's have said, Dragon Ball Z was the shit. Even though it looks kind of bland compared to other things, it'll always have a special place.
Unfortunately, I never payed much attention to many of the other shows played. I mean, I'm just now watching Outlaw Star (in its uncensored goodness). I got confused by the amount of Gundam shows there were. But Gundam Wing was cool because....well, I enjoyed the robots more. G Gundam was pretty cool as well.
I always watched it after school too. I always had a 5 minuet walk from the bus stop and I love it when it starts as soon as I walk through the door. I still wouldn't mind watching it if only it was on weekdays. Naruto and one Piece are good enough to watch the program. Actually Dragonball Z is back on the schedule too. I just wish they brought back the classics. I remember back when it first started when Moltar was the host, they had Voltron.
I remember back when it first started when Moltar was the host, they had Voltron.
Voltron, Robotech, Thundercats, and some 10 minute shorts involving Space Ghost in his 60's cartoons. There were also the Herculoids that played. Hell, I remember there old Superman cartoons that were played on Toonami (and I mean the old, old ones).

Ah, Toonami... I really did enjoy watching that. I also enjoyed Boomerang when it was on (either it is done for, or my cable company is a bitch).

Reboot was an incredible show; once I get some extra cash I'm totally getting the whole series on DVD.
Of course, I, like a fifth of the world's population, was also obsessed with DragonBall Z for a good four years. I think enough has been said about that already.
Outlaw Star is a great show too, but you need to get the DVDs to see it in all it's uncensored glory.

This is a good thread, Nate.
I used to watch toonami after school as well. I remember watching the same line-up of shows you listed. Reboot was a completely badass show. Bob fought that Spider and then went missing and then Enzo took steroids and went looking for him. And then when they found him he had become Shiny Bob, or something like that. DBZ was cool but I started to get tired of all the filler crap and how every single person on the show could blow a planet up with their pinky. Outlaw Star was also a great show.

Ruroni Kenshin, Yu-Yu-Hakusho, and the Tenchi series were also really good, imo. And yes, Outlaw Star rocked, and if any fans can, try and see if you can find episode 24. Not only is it fucking hilarious, but you actually find out how Gene got those three shiny new casters which make the story so much less confusing.

Ah, Rurouni Kenshin! I never saw it on Toonami; was it in English on there or subbed? I tried listening to the English dub and couldn't stand it; the Japanese voices are just so perfect for the characters.

Man toonami was the shit.I would always get home from school and turn it on and just watch every show that came on.
DBZ is one of my favorite shows ever,Reboot was really cool too.
But near the end of DBZ I lost my cable.
I just got cable back last year and I have started watching new shows but the only good ones to me are Naruto and One piece.

Most dubbed animes blow.
Steve Blum is a great voice actor though.

All of those ads and promos were great. Thats the number one thing I liked about toonami, was the presentation, they got you pumped just before the show got on. badass.

Man, oh man. Toonami. Where to begin? My god, Reboot! Amazing show, still have to find some money to buy the seasons on DVD. As far as Dragonball Z goes, my dad and I used to race home from work/school to catch it. We both were obsessed for a couple of years. I openly hated on Sailor Moon, but must admit I watched my fair share of it. Never was in to the Gundam shows too much and I did watch some of the later stuff, Yu-Yu, Tenchi, etc which were all good. Looking back on some of this stuff... Voltron... good lord...

Sailor Moon came on before Reboot or before DBZ?
I don't remember. i just watched it while waiting for those two shows.
i think i watched almost every episode of DBZ that ever came on. Radditz and Hercule were probably my favorite characters, besides Krillin and Trunks, that is.
