Playstation Premiere 2007 Unveils New Products in Japan
Crisis Core limited edition PSP, MGS4 realtime demonstration and more!
By Yoshi Sato, 07/17/2007
Today, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan held the Playstation Premiere 2007 event in Tokyo.
While most of us have already seen the new slimline PSP during E3 last week, this is the first time it was unveiled to the Japanese audience. The new unit will be released in that territory on September 20. In addition to the white, black and silver colors shown earlier, Japan will get 3 extra colors, Rose Pink, Lavender Purple and Felicia Blue.
Furthermore, Japanese gamers can get the slim PSP a week early if they decide to buy the Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII: 10th Anniversary Limited bundle which comes with a special silver PSP slim unit (with translucent buttons), game software (with a variant cover) and strap with Cloud's signature bastard sword. Only 77,777 units are produced so importers better keep an eye on this item.
For the Playstation 3, some new titles were shown including Sega's new project from the developers of Yakuza and Sakura Wars titled Valkyrja of the Battlefield(that is a variant spelling to Valkyrie apparently), Keita Takahashi's (Katamari Damacy series) new game titled Nobi Nobi Boy and Hideo Kojima showing a realtime demonstration of Metal Gear Solid 4. We will have more on the event in a short while so stay tuned!
UPDATE: According to reports from gpara.com, Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi announced in the event that it will release Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in October and will also be featured at the Tokyo Motor Show on the same month.
Keita Takahashi's new game Nobi Nobi Boy did not show any actual gameplay footage but a character animation of a worm-like creature.
Sega's new project Valkyrja of the Battlefield is developed by the team behind Sakura Wars series and uses a special water color like effect called Canvas. Producer Toshiro Nagoshi (Yakuza) has a different project for PS3 but was not shown at the event. However, it will be announced at Sega's private event this coming September.
Koei has announced Dynasty Warrior 6, the latest installment in the series to be released for the PS3 platform. A playable demo will be at the Tokyo Game Show and a release is expected sometime during fall of this year.
And here's what everyone's been waiting for. Hideo Kojima demonstrated the gameplay segment of Metal Gear Solid 4 on actual PS3 hardware for the first time. Kojima showed Snake using his camo suit to disguise himself as a bronze statue, hide in barrels and trash cans. He also showed Snake knocking down enemies rolling the barrel while he is still inside it. After feeling some discomfort, Snake "revives" as he is given a female idol magazine. The producer also revealed that an online multiplayer mode will be in the game and more details will be announced at the 20th Anniversary Party next week.
Lastly, Square-Enix showed new footage for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. This will be shown at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show event and a realtime demonstration will be expected sometime next year.
So that's quite a lot of things they showed at the Sony event. If E3 felt like it was quite lacking, looks like we can all look forward to Tokyo Game Show where we can expect to see most of the titles shown today.

PlayStation Premier: White Knight Story Playable at TGS
Producer Akihiro Hino demos game before Japanese press.
by Anoop Gantayat
US, July 17, 2007 - At last year's Tokyo Game Show, Dragon Quest and Rogue Galaxy developer Level 5 surprised everyone with the unveiling of an original PlayStation 3 RPG, White Knight Story. This year, the game will return to TGS once again, only this time in playable form!
But before that, Level 5 CEO Akihiro Hino brought a playable version of the game to Sony's PlayStation Premier press conference in Tokyo today and played it live before the press.
According to Famitsu.com's account of the demonstration, Hino began by first showing off the game's character creation system. Players will be able to create their own likeness for inclusion in the game, making use of a detailed character creation tool. This tool is so robust that Level 5 itself used it to create the main characters and 1000 or so NPC characters that appear in the game.
The demonstration proceeded to the battle field next, with a demonstration of the battle preparation screen that was shown in last year's trailer. Unlike that trailer, though, Hino's demonstration focused on a battle between the giant White Knight character and an equally giant demon. Apparently, while the two giants are fighting, smaller human-sized characters and enemies continue their own fighting below.
Hino concluded by stating that Level 5 is working away to bring the quality up for the game's playable debut at the September Tokyo Game Show. Just a few months, and the public (including you if you're hardcore enough to fly out to Japan) will be able to get hands on time with next generation RPG gaming from Level 5.

PlayStation Premier: Disgaea 3 Announced
First screens of Nippon Ichi's strategy sequel.
by Anoop Gntayat
US, July 17, 2007 - After years of sucking time away from PlayStation 2 owners, Nippon Ichi is finally moving on to the next generation. At Sony's PlayStation Premier event in Tokyo today, the third party publisher formally announced Disgaea 3 for the PlayStation 3.
Currently, we have just few details on the game, which is fully titled Makai Senki Disgaea 3. Once again a strategy RPG featuring a variety of selectabe units, the title appears to take place in a school setting. One screenshot shows a school backdrop with a menu prompting the player to change seats, go to your home room, or take part in graduation and entrance ceremonies.
The two screenshots we have suggest that Nippon Ichi hasn't quite abandoned its current set of visual tools in the move to the PS3. For a look at 2D sprites against 3D backdrops all presented in HD, check out the screens.
Disgaea 3 is set for Japanese release this winter.

I've noticed Sony seems to be giving developers plenty of time to produce their games. It seems like they really want these games to convey the PS3 message rather then just get them out as quickly as possible.

Lets be honest. You dont rush a game like Gran Turismo or Final Fantasy. Nor do you rush MGS. Besides, who do you know that pushes teams to rush a game? A console, sure (360).

PlayStation Premier: Tekken 6 Going Online
Home version to follow arcade version by less than a year.
by Anoop Gantayat
US, July 17, 2007 - With Virtua Fighter 5 going online on the Xbox 360, PS3 fighters must be wondering when they'll get a chance to experience a true next gen fighter via network play. Bandai Namco provided the answer at today's PlayStation Premier event in Tokyo.
According to Impress Watch, the company announced at the event that Tekken 6 will, like Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection Online, feature online combat. The online play will be just part of a variety of new modes that will feature in the home version.
And when will that home version arrive? The arcade version isn't due until later this year, but once that's out, PS3 owners will have to wait less than a year for the home version, Bandai Namco confirmed.

PlayStation Premier: Metal Gear Solid Online Set for PS3
The online battle will continue on the PS3
by Anoop Gantayat
US, July 17, 2007 - We were satisfied when just one Metal Gear Solid game was on the way (MGS4). Then Konami and Hideo Kojima threw us a bone with the announcement at the PlayStation Premier press conference today of Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops + for the PSP.
But they weren't done there apparently. Famitsu.com reports that following a short demo play session of MGS4 at the event, Kojima announced that Kojima Productions is currently preparing a PlayStation 3 version of Metal Gear Online, the online battle game that appeared in MGS3 Subsistence. The site reports that Kojima will play the game live at next week's Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Party event in Tokyo and will share specifics on what players can expect.
We're a bit unclear if Metal Gear Online will be a standalone release, or if it will be included as part of MGS4. Hopefully, all will be clarified next week.

You better not believe it, because the polygon counts are too high(you can't see any edges, everything is super smooth like the Killzone 05 CG trailer). Its FMV/ CGI movie. However the ingame graphics are awesome in itself! Last year video was a mix between CG and ingame, they did such a great job.
its scary that gamers cant tell the difference between CGI and ingame anymore in this generation, it was much easier in the last generation. This Shows how far technology has come, perhaps CG and In-game graphics well be one in the same on the Playstation 4, in terms of polygon count.
