In this image (which is an official PS3 advert made by Sony) the mushroom cloud seems to resemble a clown. (http://ukresistance.co.uk/pics4/playstation3-bomb-advert.jpg)

It reminded me of the clown in the Twisted Metal cover?
Or did I see that somewhere else?

I think they just used the design/look for this ad.
Btw. the mushroom cloud scared me a bit lol.

Definitely looks like a clown to me, and the only really noteworthy clown is Sweet Tooth... I don't expect to see Twisted Metal PS3 until next year's E3 though at the soonest.

Let the carnage begin...again.

Even though I kinda lost interest on the TM games after 2 (I did played and beat Black and Black online, but was not fully satisfied), I'm glad about this news (if it is in fact). Just hope they bring the old Calypso back. Because that B horror movie Calypso from Black looks bad...in a bad way.

I love the Playstation's ads.

you can say that again. :)
they do look very cool, but if you look closer, you will usually find more info. :)

this does look like a clown head, obviously, but I don't know if it indicates any specific game.
what I'll say is that I for one am loving what Sony is doing with PSN in the way they are holding us up with solutions till the real chapters hit. I don't want to wait till mid or end of 08 to play GT5. but they have been giving me teasers to mingle with since late last year. now we're getting on freakin line GT prologue! the same goes for Wipeout and SOCOM. I love it! :)

saying that, they could nery well make a PSN Twisted Metal game. :)

Man I almost forgot about Twisted Metal. I really like 3 and to some extent 4, but lost intrest in Black, however, I feel like I could go for a good game of TM now, its been about 5+ years. I think it will be next years warhawk, but we may see some single player in it, anyway I will be getting this game for sure once it comes out.

I'd bet a years pay that this is the first viral ad for Twisted Metal. I just hope the storyline is more disturbing, dark, and unnerving than TM:B's. You could say I'm a bit of a masochist. What Incognito did with TM:B on the PS2 was amazing and was done very early in the consoles lifecycle. Now that they already have a game under their belt (Warhawk) for the PS3, it'll be interesting to see what they are able to do.

Like I said in my thread. I'm guessing that this is just an advertisement for the Playstation 3 itself.

It's an advertising for Resistance - Fall of Man 2. The color. The atomic bomb explosion. And somehow, a clown.

I agree; Black was amazing. it even had dial-up support! and I think the success of Black and the feedback will guarantee that they will follow on the gritty settings and dark atmosphere. not that past TM games were Barbie games, but the art direction was too colorful. maybe it was a PSOne limitation at the time?

Did there need to be an entirely new thread about this, as opposed to just posting it in the thread with the picture of the clown?

I always hear most people speak positively about the TM franchise. I have never played them. I can't wait to see/feel what all the hype is about.

Wow, imo you are definately not a fan of the series then, because everyone knows 3 and 4 were the shittiest incarnations of the game. I believe those two were made by 989 studios.... 2 is by far the best, then black and 1... 3 & 4 should have never existed.

TM Black was da shit....

As for the clown being happy, and not angry... I think Sweet tooth had a smile.. it was a demented smile but he cracked one.

I hope the cloud clown represents Twisted Metal.... Twisted metal and Wipeout in 2008 would be sweet, sprinkle in MGS4, Killzone 2, and FFXIII and were talking a clutch year !!!!

The bomb stands for a massive impact and the clown(s) for fun.
So call it a "huge fun bomb" or an "massive impact of fun" or something like that lol.

It's about the stuff Jack Thompson doesn't get.

This is all about fun and silly apocalypse. Why running over a hooker to get your money back in GTA3 is stupid silly fun, in real life it would be a tragedy.

"It's fun to act the fool and blow shit up on your TV".

That's a happy clown, the Twisted Metal clown is a mean, mean one.Any clown in an atomic bomb cloud is not a happy clown lol. Plus this one looks kinda evil anyway if you ask me lol. Twisted Metal was one of the games i'd like too see make a come back along with Syphon Filter. PS3 would really do the the special effects..the environments, character/car models justice. I hope this'll actually turn out to be something. Only makes sense that its representing something (and not just Sony being "weird" lol).

Debunked:

July 18, 2007 - Hold your horses, Twisted Metal fans.

The image of a clown face-shaped mushroom cloud rising over a barren landscape set off years of pent up emotions on NeoGAF, yesterday. With a PlayStation 3 logo in the lower right corner of the art, fans began to speculate that the black-and-white image signaled Sweet Tooth's return.

It looks like those fans are going to have to keep hoping.

The image originated on the portfolio website of Frederik Samuel, who dabbles in the advertising, graphic and webpage design. Although the entire site was down this morning, a Google search of the original address and a click of the "Cached" button brought up the blog that launched a thousands message board posts. Although the image was removed, the site did let on that the project was a product of TBWA, Paris and Art Director Philippe Taroux.

When reached by phone this morning, Taroux said the image was one of many from a general Sony campaign.

"The idea of a clown is not linked to one game," he said. "It's an explosion of fun."

Taroux said Sony didn't request the cloud be in any specific shape.

Alex Armour, a public relations specialist for Sony Computer Entertainment America, had not seen the ad in question this morning but did have an answer for Twisted Metal fans wondering if a new version of the franchise was headed their way.

"No," Armour said. "We don't have anything in the works at this time."
