OK, so I assume that everyone's heard of the Wii by now. Comments from the peanut gallery?
I think the name stinks. However, I did read something interesting today - at least one "industry analyst" thinks that this may be a sort of viral marketing thing. Release a name that everyone will hate, because it'll get people talking about your console. Then, two weeks later at E3, release the real, good name, and supposedly people will talk about it again, to say "Hey, remember that stupid Wii name? It turns out they were just kidding - it's really the [insert rockin' name here]."
I don't buy it, but thought it was an interesting/creative idea.

Interesting theory, but no.
It's been trademarked. That means, its official.

It's a stupid name, but it's the same console. the difference? I can rip on it far more easily.

Has it been? As of a couple of days ago, it hadn't been trademarked in the US or anywhere else yet.

Hmm that is interesting about the whole viral thing, but that isn't really Nintendo's style and something like that can backfire on them hard.
Anyways, I actually think the name works, but at the same time it bothers me a bit. Still, kudos on Nintendo for having the balls to do it. I don't see how naming it somethign like that is going to get everyone, but it definitely has grabbed the attention of a hardcore like myself.

It's something easy o remember, so that would be good for Nintendo. Parents ask his kid what he wants "A Wii!" so they go to the store and say, "We don't know what it is, but we need a Whee" Also, half my work of making fun of it is done already.

Hahaha, but think about it, do you really want to have to tell people that you can't go to the movies because you are going to be "wii-ing"?

Haha - "nah, I'm just going to stay home and play with my Wii."
"Dude... give that thing a rest!"

Haha - Friend, we hardly knew ye. Gotta give it to those guys - they have the innuendo meter cranked up way higher than I do.

Is that like the Penny-Arcade for people who don't realize that it exist or something?

I don't know if you think it is or not, but Penny Arcade's not the only video game comic out there... I read at least one or two more myself.

A smaller webcomic - nowhere near as big as Penny Arcade, CAD, VGCats, etc, but they're really funny at times. Going through the back comics, there are quite a few classics.

yeah, that was actually pretty good, and everyone knows that PA exists, some people just don't care. =) (I do like PA though)

I may have said this before, but I thought it was sad that at E3 a few years ago, they had a longer line for autographs than Stan Lee did. :(

I'm seriously considering buying a Wii to play Red Steel and the new Super Smash Bros.

Those are pretty much at the top of my list, too. The new Zelda looks pretty sweet, too, and I'm not really into Zelda.

I want to play the new zelda alot, it is pretty much at the top of my Wii list, but then again, there isn't much on that list, hopefully they will make more announcements soon Suposedly there is still some secret that hasn't been unvailed yet, also.
