A lot of the biggest fans have been really pissed that they have never released the original versions on DVD. I know at least one person who has bought semi-bootlegs - DVD copies of the original laserdisks - just so they could have that version.

In other words, he's been alienating the very people who are the most likely to buy tons of merchandise, and now he's finally given in to the one thing they've been asking for all along.
