Hey, as most of you have gathered i live in Aus :P just a question.

I know the PS3 has no region coding but i was told that some games might be having it. as i am a euro gamer, the games will be shipped later than the US. For example Lair is set for augest for the US and there is still no release date for Aus yet :( so my question is, am i able to get most games shipped from the US so i dont have to wait for the Aussie release?

might sound like a dumb ass question but a friend of mine bought a Japanese PS3 before the aus one came out and it wont play some PAL games.

and info will be very appreciated :)

I'm currently in Wellington. I bought a PAL ps3 so that we (my bro and I) could play our back catalogue of games (most of them being pal). I actually got my ps3 with a tv!! I got a SXRD 50" rear projection one. Tiss very good and *ALMOST* as good as the xbr. I'll be selling it (by "it" I mean the tv) when I leave in 6 months.
I play my games from Japan just fine on it so maybe it's alright....? Well good luck with that anyway:thumbl:

what you do need to pay attention to is if you were using a standard resolution TV. in htat case, some PAL games won't work on NTSC systems and vise versa. this is the problem I am having with Oblivion and when googling it, someone had it with FEAR. the problem is standard resolution will siffer between 420i and 567i (or something like that) and you'll get an error message on screen saying that the game cannot be played on your set. the only solution for this is to play a game in the international standard of 702p or above. if you have an HDTV then problem solved. if not, be careful. I don't know if there are converters you can use or if they work.

as for actual region coding on the games themselves, I haven't heard of any of the likes in any game. but to be on the safe side, simply check on a specific game before you pre-order it. you can check the official site, forum, send an email to them or see if you can find a back scan of the game's cover since they will mention something like that in the back disclaimer.

have fun. :)

I haven't read any reports from anyone being unable to play imported PS3 games, so fear not. Not that I ever expected to read such things because it's a well known fact that all PS3 games are region free and there haven't been any exceptions so far.

some early games online mode was/is region locked(i.e. PAL Motorstorm users can only play with other PAL users online), but that should change with most(if not all) newer games.

yes, but even then, you can play the online region of your game's copy regardless of the origin of your user account. for example; I have a US ID and a PAL MotorStorm. I can only play MS in EU/Aus/NZ servers.

480i/p and 576i/p

yeah, sorry for the typos. you get the idea. ;p

Games should also go to your default language so long as it is available on the game disc. I bought NG Sigma and Folks Soul in Japan, both play in English though Folks Soul is more like Engrish with the translations.

The Japanese baseball game would never be made outside the Japanese market so there is no way to change that to English that I can easily find.

Does the region free gameplay on PS3 mean you can play import PS2/PS1 titles?

No, PS1/PS2 games still have specific regions that are tied to the region of your system.
