I always wondered why Devil May Cry could never get that "spark" that the first DMC had...Then I looked up on Wikipedia and saw that it was Capcom production studio 1 that did DMC2 and DMC3...It was Capcom prodcution studio 4 that did the first DMC (They also did Resident evil 4).
Now that I know that CPS4 is doing DMC4...Day one purchse comfirmed. :pinky:

I wonder is Virgil will make an appearance in this game. Its kinda upsetting cuz i thought for sure in DMC4 they'd focus on him becuase e was a cool character and i like his moves but his part of the story in DMC3 Special Edition was laaaaame. But they pop out Nero outta no where >_>

Date set for DMC4......and nero is an emo apparently :/
Capcom's press site has alerted us to some updated information regarding Devil May Cry 4 and, seeing how we're kind spirits and all, thought we'd forward the information to you. A lot of it is rehashed info, so we'll cut through that recycled garbage (oxymoron?) and deliver you the news you want to know.
Appearances by Trish, Lady, Dante, and pretty much the entire DMC cast ensemble are to be expected. Nero is described by Capcom as "cynical and prefers being a lone wolf, often labeled emo." That made us giggle a little bit. But probably the most important slice of information is a solid release date scheduled by Capcom -- a street date of February 2008 has been set. We'll have some more DMC4 news for you in a little bit, so don't worry, fans of the franchise, more news is coming.

Not the least of which is the emotion of sadness.
"Hey man how you doing?"
"My dad just died."
"Gosh man you're so emo, cheer the hell up."
You can't be sad about anything without being called emo. They've cannibalized pretty much every emotion aside from joy come to think of it.

Devil May Cry 4 Progress Report
Devil Triggers, boss battles and Pandora's Box?
by Jeff Haynes
US, October 19, 2007 - We've been following Devil May Cry 4 for quite a while, but one question started to continually pop up whenever we saw the title at events: when will we see anything new for the game? We'd played through the same levels since March, defeating Berial multiple times, smashing our way through frost demons and patchwork beasts with little effort. But we really couldn't wait to see something, anything new on the game. At Capcom's recent Gamer's Day event, Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi pulled back the curtain on his title, revealing the game on both the PS3 and 360, with a number of new and exciting elements.
The first thing that Kobayashi did was show the tutorial fight between Dante and Nero in the cathedral. We've continually seen this battle in trailers, but we'd not seen the battle actually go down the way it will in the full game. Apart from gaining a sense of the battle mechanics with the Blue Rose and Red Queen, the entire purpose of the tutorial battle was to teach players how to use the Devil Bringer to slam Dante into the ground three times, which would then precipitate a true boss battle. However, even Kobayashi admitted that the tuning for the title that was running on a debug PS3 was off, as Dante proceeded to hand a severe beating to Nero.
Kobayashi then treated us to a second new section of the game, which took place at the start of Mission 3, with Nero trying to get to Fortuna Castle. For the purposes of the demonstration, he had supercharged Nero's abilities, letting him charge his pistol with a powered up shot. Even more impressive, this allowed him to show off the full nature of the Devil Bringer arm. Much more than a simple force projection of the arm to snag enemies or move from location to location, the most powered up state of the Devil Bringer projects a spirit from Nero's body, which allows him toss multiple flying blades when he fires his gun, or to land multiple strikes on monsters with his sword. This is further augmented with the Exceed system, which lets him boost his sword strikes and make blows even more powerful when they connect with opponents. In fact, just about every move performed with this heightened Devil Bringer spirit (particularly when revved up with Exceed power) was more exaggerated and dramatic that we've seen in any footage of the game.
From there, Kobayashi felt that the press needed to see an amusing cutscene, so he quickly showed a cutscene that "introduced" Gloria. While elements of this cutscene were evident in the TGS trailer, the acrobatic and overtly sexual nature of Gloria both as a character and as a fighter definitely stood out to Nero, and it was pretty apparent that the new hero of the DMC4 series really didn't know how to handle this new member of his order. Kobayashi was definitely pleased with the reaction of the press to the fight as well as the overall cutscene - in fact, during the question and answer period, he even went so far as to mention that Gloria was his favorite female character, which was simply evident by the cutscene itself.
To wrap up the presentation with Nero, Kobayashi showed off a fight with the jungle boss, or the floating snake beast that has been scattered through trailers. After an extended cutscene where Nero ran along its back and futilely rammed the Devil Bringer into its scales, he finally managed to get to a clearing to take on the beast, which had a demonic woman inside of its mouth. Here, it was pointed out that searching for and exploiting the weakness of the monster was the primary key, and once it was revealed that the glowing "egg sac" of the beast was the target, Nero proceeded to hack and slash at its soft underbelly, causing it to writhe in pain. Again showing off the augmented attacks from the powered up Devil Bringer spirit, Kobayashi quickly smashed his way through the boss, stopping the game before any more story spoilers could be revealed.
The demonstration quickly switched over to a debug 360, which looked exactly the same as the PS3 version, except that Kobayashi then proceeded to show off Dante on Microsoft's system. Now that the secret of Dante's inclusion in the game has been known, the development team has been looking forward to releasing details about the favorite character in the series. The first thing that was shown were the various fighting styles that Dante has within the game. DMC3 fans will recognize the inclusion of the Trickster, Royal Guard, Swordmaster and Gun Slinger styles as variations on the attacks that Dante can pull off with his weapons. However, these were just the tip of the iceberg as far as DMC 4 was concerned. In fact, Kobayashi was quick to point out that they had a greater application with the new weapons that Dante acquired in the game.
The first weapon that he showed was Gilgamesh, the metallic gauntlets and boots that strengthened Dante's melee strikes. Obviously, the ability to project spikes from his hands and elbows, as well as having saw blades on the heels of his boots made his attacks much more dangerous. But Kobayashi pointed out that Dante could power up his fists, and if he happened to be in the Sword Master Style, Dante could even pull off Dragon Punches a la Ryu from Street Fighter. Unfortunately, he had trouble showing the full force of the attack, as the monsters in the demo continually avoided his blows. However, the animation and the visual of Dante landing a Dragon Punch was particularly cool.
Kobayashi then moved on to highlight a second new weapon called Lucifer, which appeared to be metallic wings that attached themselves to Dante's back. In fact, the wings seemed to be more like a backpack that allowed him to project blades of energy towards his opponents that hung in mid-air. Dante could toss a number of these projectiles, and then, with a quick flick of the wrist, he'd throw a rose, which would cause the blades to explode and cause damage to anything in their radius. It appeared to be a more defensive weapon than anything, but Kobayashi pointed out again that with the Sword Master fighting style, you could reposition these energy blades around your body, effectively creating a shield that was impenetrable, or move them into a position that would automatically harm monsters.
Of course, the best was kept for last, which was Pandora's Box. At first, it appeared to be a simple briefcase that Dante carried, and when it was kicked open, it would stun monsters. However, there was more than met the eye, and as Kobayashi entered button combos, we were shown the full power of this awesome weapon. Pandora's Box literally transforms into numerous weapons that Dante can use to put some serious pain on demons. One form turned the box into a chaingun, while another created a bow that launced explosive darts. A third brought out a cannon, while a fourth created a gigantic laser. Dante was also able to throw the Box like a bladed boomerang to harm distant enemies, which set up the coup de grace: Pandora's Box can actually turn into a floating mobile missile platform, complete with cannons that fire in 360 degrees. When asked by a journalist how the game would balance such an awesome weapon, Kobayashi laughed and remarked that the weapon would have a gauge attached to it, and that you would have to power up the gauge to be able to achieve any of these forms with the weapon. Obviously, he said, the missile platform would be the most complex one to acquire because it was so powerful.
The demo was concluded with a question and answer period, where Kobayashi pointed out that the game is not two separate stories as previously thought, but instead one massive tale where the player will start and finish the Nero part of Devil May Cry 4 before picking up as Dante and finishing the entire game. There won't be an option to play through the entire title solely as one character or the other, either. There will be a large number of extras, and while he wasn't willing to discuss the possibility of downloads, he mentioned that the reward structure, rankings and achievements would be the same for both the PS3 and 360 versions of the game, which will run in 16:9 and 4:3 at 720p and 60 frames a second. We'll have more on Devil May Cry 4 as soon as it

The Echidna video:
- Dante switches between five weapons (Lucifer, Gilgamesh, Rebellion, E&I, and Shotgun) in it, I wonder how that's going to work.
- E&I fire very fast. Faster than the SMGs in The Game That Shall Not Be Mentioned, I'd say.
- Lucifer is a DA, not a firearm.
- You can see the next weapon you'll switch to in a little circle (inside the weapon switch circle itself).
- Gilgamesh seems to have a Rolling Blaze-like ability.
- Echidna drops out minions.
- Nice-looking motion blur when Echidna is zooming around.
The Assault video:
- DMC1's "Lock and Load" has been changed around a bit, it now has vocals as well.
- The jungle when it's raining looks beautiful.
- Perhaps it's because I've been playing in Turbo mode for hundreds of hours, but Dante seems a bit slow.
- We see that Rebellion has Stinger, Helm Breaker DMC3's Combo I, DMC3's Combo II, Million Stab, Aerial Rave, and Prop Shredder (and we know it has Drive and Round Trip). Nothing new, it seems.
- Fireworks is deliciously useless as always.
- It seems that unless Dante got hit, the Style bar never went down below the rating it was on. In other words, even though the Style bar went down to the bottom of Brutal, it just stayed there, and didn't go back into Carnage (until Dante got hit).

As soon as people are able to do something, or discover something new, everyone goes and abuses the fuck out of it. Then after it's been beaten into the ground, everyone steps back and goes, 'hey guys maybe we should chill out with this and use it in moderation.' This is just true throughout history. So eventually everyone will get tired of it and go, yeah let's just do this where it makes sense. Right now it's the cool thing to do and if you don't, then you're not hip.
In games, this theory can be applied to:
Motion Blur
HDR Lighting
Particle Effects
The Color Brown
Cart Racing Games, post Mario Kart 64
FPS flooding the console market (thanks halo!)
I'm sure there's more that I'm missing at the moment.

First details on Devil May Cry 4 demo
Thursday 29-Nov-2007 2:41 PM City, ice and a big boss in DMC4 demo... probably coming to XBL and PSN at erm, some point...
The first details have emerged on the pre-release demo of Devil May Cry 4... even if we don't have a clue when or where it's going to hit.
The ten minute demo is a mish-mash of portions from Devil May Cry 4's story, including cut-up sections from Fortuna city as well as a bit from that icy level we've seen a thousand screenshots of.
Excitingly a boss character called Berial (probably demon for 'Barry') is also said to feature. Oh Capcom, you're spoiling us!
Speculation did kick off on the net that the DMC4 demo would be coming only to Xbox Live Marketplace in December, but Capcom has since debunked the rumour as "incorrect".
"The news you're looking for is not far off... a little more patience please," posted a Capcom spokesperson on a company forum.
So it's probably coming to box Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and news isn't far off? Let's hope we get it before Christmas.

^ It's good to hear, but I would not get your hopes up until the final version is released... Considering the game is using their newest engine perhaps it's better optimized for the PS3. I was not extremely excited for this game, but the more I see the more I feel this is a day one purchase. It will be interesting to see how the scores compare to Ninja Gaiden 2, because at this point DMC4 could have the visual edge... I love the combat engine used for Ninja Gaiden so I doubt DMC4 combat will be superior, but you never know...

I do agree wioth your statements.
For a gameplay point of view, just looking at the vids. I just find the ennemies too lazy. I don't know I just find the battle boring, of course you can't block. But it looks like sometimes when the player is trying to put a combo it just finishes in the middle of nowhere.
And the ennemis to are doing nothing, they got what ? maybe one or two sets of moves ?
I just wish they could balance the gameplay so that you could enjoy all the subtilities of what the game can offer.
I mean with Nero KObayashi explained that he wanted to give amazing "on air combos " Like switching ennemies in mid air with nero and just staying on air and doing lots of cool moves.
With Dante, Using the environement to use perfectly all the styles. I also wished to have Dante performing two sometimes while moving at the same time or shooting while running on the walls ( don't know if it s possible yet).
BTW it' s still a DMC though.
But i m just worried about how they will balance the game with all the weapons, styles and so on...available.
Well on the positive side I enjoyed the nero vs Dante tutorial battle, it s just a mess that there is so much loading time...Wanted that off, so that it could be seemless with the cutscenes. ^^
Well I ll get the game Haha. and for the hardcore , I fnd the music really good, and looks like they mixed Dante's theme from DMC1 with a new one for Dante playable part.

Capcom today released a few new screenshots, and revealed that their highly anticipated Devil May Cry 4 will have a demo landing on consoles in early 2008. While rather vague, Capcom stated that the demo will be
coming to both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, and showcase a number of different portions of the game, and get players aquainted to the series' new hero - Nero.
The new shots we've got of the game show off Dante's new weapon, Lucifer, as well as a nasty new enemy Nero will encounter dubbed the "One Winged Dark Knight."
I wonder if this game will really come out in February like Gamestop has it listed for...

New interview. I know it's long, but there's some good stuff in there:
A few weeks ago, we spoke with Hiroyuki Kobayashi--the game producer, not the baseball player--about Devil May Cry 4, shipping next year for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The first and third games were much-lauded, while the second was generally viewed as a disappointment. So with the fourth game in development, it was reasonable to wonder whether there could be a brewing every-other-game-is-mediocre problem (much like the Call of Duty games made by Treyarch rather than Infinity Ward.) But with Kobayashi having such games under his belt as the highly acclaimed Resident Evil 4 and the defiantly offbeat Killer 7--and based on what we saw recently--we think fans of the franchise will find themselves entertained. We asked him why Devil May Cry 4 features a new main character; what he thought of his chief competitors Ninja Gaiden and God of War; and how hard it was to develop for the PS3. Here's what Kobayashi had to say.
The first and the third Devil May Cry games were the best received in the series, and a lot of people particularly like the third one. What did you want to achieve with Devil May Cry 4?
One of the first things that we decided when we were just planning out the game was that we would definitely have a new main character in the game. We definitely wanted to have a new hero. We also wanted to have this kind of like, changing of the baton or passing the torch; that you would be able to switch between between Dante and Nero in the game. So how to be able to do that in the game and how to be able to do that in the story was something that we had to think quite a lot about.
Was the reasoning behind having Nero as a new character primarily story reasons or for gameplay reasons primarily?
Primarily it was for gameplay reasons. I mean, in [Devil May Cry] one, two and three, Dante got more and more moves. It was getting more and more complicated and it became a little bit difficult for people who had never played the series before to be able to control him. So in order to be able to attract both new fans and people who were fans of the series already; so they would both be at the same starting point and both be able to enjoy the game, we felt we had to change and have a new main character.
The relationship between Dante and Nero, seems like that between an older experienced person and a younger impetuous person. In some ways, it reminds me of the relationship between Han Solo and Luke Skywalker or perhaps Solid Snake and Raiden. Was that deliberate? Also, since Devil May Cry 3 was a prequel, Dante was younger than he was in Devil May Cry 1. So in a way, it's almost like Dante and Nero are akin to the older and younger Dantes of the previous games. Is that how you thought about Dante and Nero for Devil May Cry 4?
Certainly as young characters, Dante in [Devil May Cry] 3 and Nero are kind of similar. Nero, at the start of this game, he does not have much experience. He's very much at beginning of being a devil hunter. The way he looks at the world is different unlike Dante who's a real smooth customer.
Nero's much less experienced and he sometimes screws up and makes mistakes as well. Compare that to Dante; he's definitely a veteran. He knows what he's doing. So there is definitely that relationship between them, between the old and the young; Dante the adult and Nero, who's really still a child. So one of the things we wanted to explore in this game was this kind of relationship that does exist in real life between the veteran and the newcomer. We wanted to explore how Nero would, by the end of the game, be able to take over from Dante and become an experienced veteran in his own right.
When you started showing me the Dante section, the way that he moves and his moves were very recognizably Dante from the previous games, did you use the same animation data or motion capture data from the previous games or did you redo it but have it done in the same way so that, you know, Dante would seem the same?
For the motion capture in the cut scenes, we've used the motion capture from Ruben Langdon, who also played Dante in Devil May Cry 3. So they certainly do look similar. In game, we have used the same facial animations as we did in Devil May Cry 3, but obviously with it being a different generation of consoles, we have tinkered with them and improved them to make them look as they should look on next gen.
Where did the idea come for Nero's sword, to have a motorcycle throttle in the sword? And will you actually be able to plunge your sword into an enemy and sort of drive him around the screen as we say in the cutscene?
You really can't do that in the game, drive enemies around like that. The reason we have that in the cutscene is because at the start of [Devil May Cry] 3, there's a scene where Dante hits a guy with a sword and surfs him around the place. So--
Exactly, that's one of my favorite scenes.
Shimamura-san [Yuji Shimamura], the director who also directed the cutscenes in [Devil May Cry] 3, he directed them in [Devil May Cry] 4 as well, and he wanted to do a similar thing where Nero rides around the enemy with his sword. So that's the reason why that's in there. As for the Red Queen--the throttle on that sword—actually, that idea came from a guy who makes some of the motions for the game, one of the motion artists. He had this idea like for a long time for a sword that had an accelerator or throttle in the arm that would be really cool. So he finally got to put it into practice this time.
So do you ever feel pressure sometimes when the people directing the cut scenes come up with these really cool ideas and it creates expectations in gamers, like myself, that we're able to do that, we'll be able to do that in the game but we can't. So does that ever put pressure on you to sort of well I have to figure out a way to get this into the game?
We do try as much as possible to make the cutscenes from things that you can actually do in the game, and to let you do things that are in the cutscenes in the game. But there are some things that we just have to give up and say, "Okay, we can't do this in the game, but it makes for a good cutscene, so we'll just do it in the cutscene. If everything in the cutscenes were just everything you can do in the game, it might be a little bit less interesting than it is now. So trying to get the right balance between the two is important, I feel.
In North America and Europe at least, the two other leading games in the same category as Devil May Cry would be God of War and Ninja Gaiden.
Yeah.
What do you think about each of those games individually, and what are some of the areas that you can point to and say—and I don't mean to suggest that they're identical--but where you'd say "Well, they do this, but we actually decided to do something very different?"
Those games certainly do come up a lot. And to be honest, I haven't played either of those games myself, so I can't really comment on that. I don't really pay a lot of attention to what our competitors are doing. But I do think that the people who make those games pay a lot of attention to what we're doing. Personally, I feel that our challenge is to create something that's more interesting then Devil May Cry 1 or Devil May Cry 3. They're the games that we view as our competitors and they're the games that we try to create something more interesting than.
Did you deliberately not play God of War and Ninja Gaiden so that you don't accidentally incorporate the things that they're doing? Or is it just that you didn't have time to play those games?
Well, I don't have the time to play a lot of games these days, so that certainly is a problem. But as a creator, I think it's best if you don't. If you play another game and you see something in it then you kind of can't use it anymore. So I think it's kind of best to keep your distance from that. Instead of other rival games, I prefer to get my inspiration from animated movies and other things like that.
So which animated movies did you draw inspiration from for Devil May Cry 4?
In terms of having the two heroes in the game--the old hero and the new hero--one of the things that we did when we were doing the scenario meetings at the start of the game was to look at different anime that had similar storylines. Two examples are Dragon Ball and Gundam Zeta; I don't know what the American title is exactly, but it's the first one in the series. We had a lot of discussion about it, like "Oh, this anime does this, this anime does that." So that was a bit of an influence on us.
Can you talk about the thinking behind the Devil Bringer weapon, both for grabbing enemies and bringing them towards you and using it to move through certain spaces? I'm also interested in how you came up with Pandora's Box for Dante, and how you feel it fits with the other abilities that Dante already has, since he's been building up his abilities over the course of what will soon be four games?
As I understand it, the idea for the Devil Bringer actually came up during the development of of Devil May Cry 3. It was an idea that director Itsuno-san [Hideaki Itsuno] had, the idea of being able to use this demonic right arm to do lots of different things in the game. But you couldn't actually use it in that game, because it felt a bit weird that Dante would suddenly have this demonic right arm. So that was an idea that was kind of kept over from that and then used in this game.
As for Pandora's Box, we always thought that having a weapon that would change into a bunch of different weapons would be kind of interesting. From that came the idea of having it as a case that changed form--that it would be kind of cool. And from that came the idea that it's Pandora's Box; it's something you can't see inside, you can't look inside. That's where that idea came from during the development of the game.
For the Devil Bringer, what was interesting to the team about being able to bring the enemies towards them? Did that stem from wanting to give the player more ways to continue to chain attacks or was there another idea at work?
With the sword and the gun, most of the attacks based on them send the enemies far away from you. Then you, playing as Dante, would have to go to the enemy to attack them. We wanted to give the player some more control over what they could do with the enemy. So with the Devil Bringer, you can control where the enemy is. You can lift them up. You can bring them up, bring them down. You can be close or far away; and even at far away, you can grab them and lift them up and do whatever you want with them. So it does add a lot of variations to the actions that you can do in the game.
For Nero and then Dante, how do you see the interrelationship between the different moves, close-up versus far away? What becomes the optimal way to play either character?
As for Nero you saw a lot of skills today, but he doesn't have all of those at the start of the game. It builds them up gradually as it goes through the game. So it teaches the player what they should do and how to create the balance right between what enemies he faces. As for Dante, yeah, Dante certainly has the four styles straight off. He has the handgun and the shotgun and a lot of different things that he can do. But by the time Dante comes into the game you've probably gotten used to a lot of the actions.
The other thing is that you don't have to use all of those different styles or all of the different things he can do. We kind of leave it up to the player. Do what you like with Dante, play with him the way you like, because you don't have to use all the styles in order to finish the game. By playing through it and then playing through it again, playing certain sections again, you can see how much better you've gotten and what you've improved at the game. We leave that up to the player themselves.
This game engine was used for both Dead Rising and Last Planet on Xbox 360.
Right.
But this is going to be the first game done for using this engine on PlayStation 3. What were the technical challenges involved to get this technology up and running on PS3? How does it compare to Xbox 360?
It's not a 360 engine. It's not an engine for the 360. It's the internal engine that we use at Capcom for next generation machines called the MT Framework [note: MT stands for multi-target]. That actually runs on PC. As you know, we did originally plan to have this title just on PS3, but actually the development was done on a PC, not on a particular console. So because it's all done on the PC--as were the other two titles that you mentioned--it makes it very easy to move it put it on the 360 and use the power of that machine, or to put it on the PS3 and use the power of that machine, each in different ways. It's really pretty easy to do it, developing it from this PC base.
Excellent. Well thank you very much for you time.
Thank you.

I was under the impression that quite a few 3rd party engines are PC centric initially and then platform geared.

If you can't decide which version of Devil May Cry 4 - Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 - to purchase, the official Capcom blog has posted the above GameTrailers video to indicate that there is no difference between the versions. Glibs the poster, "Well, the corporate answer is 'You should buy both and give one to a friend. Perhaps a third to put under your pillow,'" later adding, "As I've been telling people for months, there ain't no difference between the two."
One major deciding factor - load times - is not addressed in the footage. If one version takes 20 seconds to load a level and the other takes 2 minutes, then all else equal, we know which version we want to pick up.
Link (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/21/capcom-aint-no-difference-between-devil-may-cry-4-versions/)
Alright, I'm confuse. They seems to be indicating the PS3 version have longer load times. Or perhaps I misunderstand? Can anyone clarify this, plz.

It is my understanding that the PS3 version doesnt have load times or are very minor (unsure here) while the 360 does have typical load times. Although this comes at the cost of a 20+ minute install. (still checking on this at 2 sites though)
As far as the video both games look near identicle.

The cons:
- gfx: quality falters, partly too bright, jaggies and flickering shadows
- music: songs are repeating a lot
- controls: partly a bit chaotic
- game design: backtracking, no innovations, appeals protracted
- story: confusingly told story, flat main boss

Dated: Devil May Cry 4
Dante to turn up the heat this February.
by: James Cottee 07/01/2008
Activision, the local distributor of Capcom, has confirmed that Devil May Cry 4 will go on sale in Australia on February 7. The release will be simultaneous across PC (‘Games for Windows’), PS3, and Xbox 360.
While the release date has been perfectly coordinated, the same can not be said for the price. DMC4 will retail for $79.95 on PC, $99.95 on 360, and $109.95 on PS3 – a full ten smackers more.
For Xbox 360 owners having trouble imagining how PS3 owners feel about this, take a look at the picture of Banjo Paterson on the $10 bill. The legendary poet’s morbid despair will be felt across the land as he is unfairly whisked from gamers’ wallets.
This news joins a disturbing trend. We already know that GTA will cost more on PS3; each new price disparity announcement suggests the problem is systemic.
But why is it so? One possibility is that Sony charges a higher licensing cost per unit sold than Microsoft. Another is that Blu-ray discs cost significantly more to manufacture than DVDs. Though as we’ve already established, most PS3 games don’t even need the format’s additional storage space.
A telling example: Devil May Cry 4 itself. All the PS3 preview code Activision has sent us has been on DVD discs.
Devil May Cry 4 has been rated ‘M’ by the OFLC, for ‘moderate violence’.

I forget sometimes all about the sixaxis. I forgot the ps3 controllers even had it cuz its like so pointless right now. For this game, all its being used for is to adjust the camera....what's wrong with the right analog stick? Unless that's being used for something, that's a lame integration. I was expecting some cool usage of it for Nero's devil bringer.

Devil May Cry 4 demo coming to Xbox 360, PS3 on January 31
Capcom has just updated the official website of video game Devil May Cry 4 (Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 3) informing every single awaiting fan that a demo for the title will be coming their way via the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network services.
According to the site, the demo should go live on January 31. Coincidentally, this is exactly the same when DMC 4 will be released in Japan. Aside from the mentioned demo, Capcom is also offering some cool prizes to promote the game:
Download the Official Devil May Cry 4 Widget and enter to win an HDTV and other cooler that hell prizes. The media widget is a live feed of the latest screenshots, videos, and cooler than hell content.
It also includes a countdown to the demo and game release dates as well as buttons to join Nero or Dante's side. The widget is HTML content-based and can live on any website in the world.
Devi May Cry 4 is another sequel to the original Devil May Cry. It introduces Nero as the main character of the story this time round, though it features an appearance by the series' main protagonist Dante. Other members of the cast include Kyrie, Credo, Gloria, Agnus, and old-timers Lady and Trish.
There's no word of the Games for Windows version of the game will have any demo at all. If you want to join the contest, however, follow our source link below for more instructions.

Devil May Cry 4 will not have downloadable content, says DMC4 producer
Updating console games with downloadable content is the norm with next-gen console nowadays, but will extra gaming content be an important factor to make games even more enjoyable? For Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer of Devil May Cry 4 (PC, Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360), putting out extras aside from the content readily available in the game disc may not be necessary in making the latest iteration of the demon-slaying franchise more appealing and exciting to gamers.
"With DMC4, we feel that we have created a game that has a huge amount of content right out of the box without the need to download extra content," Kobayashi said about about the issue.
Fans of the series need not let the absence of extras dampen the game, however. After all, Kobayashi made sure that Devil May Cry 4 will surpass all of its predecessors.
he didnt TECHNICALLY say no DLC but if not, awwwwww shucks
Thats good news in my book cause if they arent releasing any downloadable content then it means they put all their ideas into this game and didnt leave stuff out to charge us more later.
Black Dragon37
01-19-2008, 08:22 PM
They don't need to charge us for downloadable content.
It isn't mandatory that all downloadable content have to be bought, you know.

I dont think you understood my point i said that its good that they dont have plans for downloadable content yet now that the game is finished. Meaning that they didnt hold something back from the full game early on its development so they could charge/or not charge for it later on like some devs would do. However if they suddenly said hey lets start developing new downloadable content now i would be all for it.
To comment on your point of view about charging what do you think the odds of Capcom not charging for extra content on one of its AAA franchises are? I would think zero.

I know what your saying. You mean that if theres no DLC that means they are still staying true to the old ways and worked HARD on the game and made sure everything was in, nothing needs to be downloadable. Unlike EA and all these other companies who just wanna make a quick buck...or 10 by releasing a half-done game then putting DLC out that you'll likely have to buy and/or doesnt really DO anything.
Like before the all this DLC, the days of the PS2 where games shipped to their best becuase they know there'd be no way to update it. Now its like, well...we can always add stuff later if they dont like it. No, your posed to KNOW we WILL like it.
Although...i find it hard to believe no DLC will come. DMC3 Special Edition couldve been a PERFECT DLC pack released since it allowed us to play as Vergil...and whatever else it had.

I'll be nice to you and tell you to go play DMC1 and DMC3 now. Ignore DMC2 as it's the most embarrasing POS Capcom ever did and nearly ruined the series. DMC1 set a great start for a franchise and then they totally went batshit and released the least canonical sequel you can think of. It harmed DMC3's sales as well.
From what I know of DMC4, anyone who liked DMC3 should like DMC4. I guess they're not coming back to the DMC1 style too much, but DMC3 was great anyway. I consider DMC1 the first PS2 game I played that made me feel it was a next gen system.
Anyway, DMC2 is not that terrible per se... it's just that it's really bad compared to the other titles.
OK, I'll look into getting a copy of the first game. Hopefully it'll play on my PS3, the last couple of PS2 games I've tried haven't worked properly.
So is the second one really that bad? If I miss out that one, am I gonna miss out on storyline?

Not at all, DMC2's storyline is totally dispensable. Although that's not the only bad thing about it from the series point of view.
In PAL PS3s, I believe there used to be important issues with DMC1 and a single glitch by the end of DMC3 that prevented you from finishing the game. However, those issues were resolved in one of the latest firmware updates... but I believe I've only heard of the news from US gamers. I don't know if they've improved the PAL BC, but I'd say they did. I guess that if you try the first one and there are no issues, you should be fine.
Well I'll soon find out I guess. With the amount of problems I'm having with PS2 games, I may end up getting myself another slimline PS2.

The reason DMC2 is so bad is because it wasn't orginally meant to be a Devil May Cry game. It was only slapped on afterwards, so that made the story seem ehh, and it ended up runing the game and ended up being a meh experience.
Anyways, you can probably pick up the DMC collection for cheap if you are looking.
Yea, I've just had a look on eBay. 1 and 3 are going for around £4 each!

Okay. So we had the confirmation at Playfrance that DMC 4 Collector edition will be sold at 75 € which will be 10 € over the 360 version. Which is ridiculous because the game on 360 / ps3 will retail for the same price in US.
That's really not fair and unexcusable.

What do you get with the Collector's Edition?

For Europe it's only a 32 pages artbook pages I think =/ in US or japan they got two Blu ray , an Audio CD with the ost and something else I think.

Looks pretty cool. I think I'll stick with the regular version once I do get around to buying this one.

Are you sure, you mean DMC2?
If I recall it correctly, DMC1 was intended to be Resident Evil for quite some time, but it ended up totally different, hence they named it differently etc...
Devil May Cry began its development life as a Resident Evil title for PS2, after the completion of Resident Evil 2, under the direction of Hideki Kamiya and "Team Little Devil".[18] Early research and development work included a trip to Spain, to examine various castles as a basis for the game's environments. However, in prototype status, the game proved to be a radical departure from the established Resident Evil formula and the survival horror genre in general. Rather than abandon the project entirely, the premise was changed and the game eventually became Devil May Cry.[19]
According to Kamiya, Devil May Cry was designed from the ground up around Dante's acrobatics and combat abilities.[20] The decision was made late in the development process to change the game to a more mission-based advancement, instead of the more open-ended structure of the Resident Evil games.[21] Devil May Cry's difficulty was intentional, according to Kamiya, who called it his "challenge to those who played light, casual games."[22]

There are plenty of similarities between DMC1 and RE4: the castle, the puppets (in early RE4 trailers), Dante and Leon sharing the same haircut, the ending, etc.

Not only is it more expensive here, but we get less on top of that!
Although... the Limited Edition is £40 for both formats here.
But still...

I was just wondering. I pre-ordered the collectors at ebgames in Canada. When I look at the ebgames website for the States it says you get a bonus free art book. I forgot to ask the ebgames here about it. So does anyone know if you get the book when you pick up the game or was it when you pre-order?

DMC1 is the best in the series because it started off as a RE game.
Graphics were awesome...
gameplay was awesome...
controls were awesome...
difficulty was perfect.
@matt IMO, you can just play part one and then jump straight to 4. I doubt part 4 will be better, but it should replace DMC3 as 2nd best.

I was concerned mainly with missing out on parts of the storyline, but if it's not much of an issue, then I may just go for the first one. I'll probably end up getting the third one too, but we'll see how it goes.

I wish they would do a remake of DMC1 for the PS3 with the only thing updated being the graphics. Leave everything else alone. One can dream....

It's not a bad game, but I don't think its necessary especially if you play DMC like it's supposed to be played (hard, very hard, Dante must die mode) you'll get a good feel for the series, won't miss the story, and you can just read what happens in DMC3 online or something for a little backstory of Dante and his brother Vergil.
DMC4 should be coming soon, so if you just focus and play on part one, you'll be doing 35+combos in no time, and starting off on hard with DMC4!

By the way, I saw some talk about a comparison video and it looks like the PS3 version is indeed superior. The 360 version has lower resolution textures, slowdowns, screen tearing, longer loading times, etc.

Sony PlayStation 3 owners who've been waiting for the demo of Capcom's Devil May Cry 4 should be informed that there's been a slight change of plans. While the demon-slaying title's demo on the Microsoft Xbox 360 will go online this January 31 as planned, it won't appear on the PS3 until February.
According to Kotaku Australia, Activision sent word that Devil May Cry 4's PS3 demo will go live on the PlayStation Network come February 1. No reason was given behind this slight delay, and we're not certain if all regions will be affected.
It was previously announced that Devil May Cry 4 demos will indeed be available on January 31, but some were confused over an e-mail passed around that marked January 24 as the date when players can get their hands on Nero and Dante. Looks like we can bet on seeing DMC4 demos online soon if Activision says so.

^ If you go to the DMC4 website it list the demo on both platforms being released in a few hours... http://www.deceiverdeceived.com/
If the site is correct the demo should be available around 3am CST.
It would be a bad sign if the PS3 demo was delayed considering the PS3 is the "lead" platform...

Actually Pc was technically the "lead" platform.
I dont think it would really be a bad sign either just a difference in the setup between xbox live and psn.

Last week, we reported that a mistake on the official Web sites for Devil May Cry 4 may have inadvertently let slip that the demo was coming on January 31. Despite that little mistake -- or possibly because of it -- Capcom has announced that the demo is coming even sooner than we anticipated. Specifically: tomorrow.
A blog update today shows that the demo is set to hit Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network tomorrow. It should should show on XBL around 2 a.m. PST, and PSN around 2 p.m. PST. So 360 owners get it a whole twelve hours earlier, lucky dogs. No word on the size or scope of the demo, but if I know my Devil May Cry, I imagine it will involve massive slaughter of underworld beasts. But hey, that's just a guess.
